    Design of Equipment Rack with TRIZ Method to Reduce Searching Time in Change Over Activity (Case Study : PT. Jans2en Indonesia)

    Janssen is a manufacturing plant that works in furniture assembly. Component shortages often occurs, it will cause the increase of work in process (WIP) in assembly section. In previous studies, we analyze the root causes with FMEA and then it is resulted that router section is the constraint of the system. There are many non value added activities such as searching and transportation caused by a messy condition of work places and the devices that aren’t put in the right place. The impact is that the time allocated for every change over is higher than before. There are many components that are worked by the router section, so improvements are needed to minimize changes in over time. 5S method and the use of a new design of rack by TRIZ method are suggested for fixing the conditions of work environment. It is expected to eliminate non value added activities and changes in over time. Result shows that we can reduce non value activities in change over of regular components up to 41% and the elimination of this time is 41,6%. The non value activities in changeover of new items is 36,6% and this elimination of time is 53,3%. Key word : change over, kaizen, design, TRIZ metho

    About half a century after Lynch\u27s research about way-finding, designers have been able to solve wayfinding problems more comprehensively. But the role of emotion, especially that of the positive ones on wayfinding design has seldom been systematically discussed before. My goal in writing this thesis is to increase the awareness of positive emotions and their impacts on wayfinding. A positive wayfinding experience is effective, efficient, as well as pleasurable and enjoyable. Key elements of a positive wayfinding experience include the consideration of environment, information, service, and emotion.     Systems mapping workshops and their role in understanding medication errors in healthcare

    In this paper for Applied Ergonomics, one of the two leading journals for ergonomics/human factors, Buckle et al. discuss the role of mapping workshops in understanding medication errors in healthcare. They draw upon research that used mapping workshops as a method that systems designers, including human factors/ergonomics specialists, can use to help generate a knowledge base for better design requirements. Buckle et al. applied systems mapping workshops for the first time to the problem of medication errors in healthcare. The workshops were designed using experiential group work principles. They involved a range of stakeholders from within the health service as well as those who supply the health sector, including designers who may be able to enhance the safety of products and systems used in healthcare. The opportunity for using these methods to study patient safety issues arose as a result of a scoping study undertaken on behalf of the UK Department of Health and The Design Council. As the scope of patient safety issues within the healthcare system and the range of stakeholder groups is large (National Patient Safety Agency 2005), it was believed that mapping workshops might enhance system design in health. The results were rich from a design perspective, giving specific details of actual incidences, contexts and practices, with further depth of information emerging in the group working sessions. A wealth of detail on aspects of medication error, especially in the community, emerged from creative, primary, secondary and patient-support group sessions. As a process, similar stakeholder workshops could help designers understand better the complexity and range of factors to be taken into account. The methods are now being used in many areas of healthcare and social care design, for example by the Technology Strategy Board funded research into Telecare (see http://www.aktive.org.uk/)

    Incorporating new technology into healthcare: an analysis of performance, acceptance, and safety

    Each year, advances in the healthcare industry allows for better patient care and increased ability to save lives. Looking at standardized and common healthcare devices for both inside and outside the hospital environment, this research studied the tradeoffs and human factors that affect operator performance and patient survival. This research studied the impact of human factors and technology in the development and implementation of the automated external defibrillator for out-of-hospital use and the incremental advantages of SMArT infusion pump technology over traditional intravenous infusion pumps for in-hospital care. The study highlights the complex human factors of both products and establishes a need for more extensive user modeling and operator studies in order to better integrate the devices into the patient care system.
