Optical investigations of nanostructured oxides and semiconductors
This work is motivated by the prospect of building a quantum computer: a device that would allow physicists to explore quantum mechanics more deeply, and allow everyone else to keep their credit card numbers safe on the internet. In this thesis we explore materials that are relevant to a proposed quantum computer architecture.Systems with a ferroelectric to paraelectric transition in the vicinity of room temperature areuseful for devices. Adjusting the ferroelectric transition temperature is traditionally accomplished by chemical substitution, as in barium strontium titanate. We investigate strained-strontium titanate, which is ferroelectric at room-temperature, and a composite material of barium strontium titanate and magnesium oxide. We present optical techniques to measure electron spin dynamics with GHz dynamical bandwidth,transform-limited spectral selectivity, and phase-sensitive detection. We demonstrate the technique with a measurement of GHz-spin precession in n-GaAs. We also describe our efforts to measure single quantum dots optically.Nanoscale devices with photonic properties have been the subject of intense research over the past decade. Potential nanophotonic applications include communications, polarization-sensitive detectors, and solar power generation. Here we show photosensitivity of a nanoscale detectorwritten at the interface between two oxides
Machinic affinities
Audio-Visionaries is a body of work that includes open-circuits and
assemblages that create audio-visual outputs. Through electronic
experimentation, exploration and improvisation the work practically
investigates the notion of machinic affinities, whose theoretical
implications this paper will investigate. The work, and this paper,
engage in media archaeology as a methodology, an emerging field of
media theory which re-examines forgotten or quashed ideas and
practices dealing with media technologies. This methodology manifests
itself in the work by employing everyday media machines, along with
heirloom technologies, and by appropriating historical and contemporary
interdisciplinary techniques, in order to reveal machinic liveness. The
paper examines these techniques and their relationship to threads of
both esoteric and popular philosophy, science and psychology that
discuss the ontology of machines.
Machinic affinity is a feeling of closeness or fondness for machines. For
the purpose of this paper I will limit my discussion to machines of a
specific nature, excluding computer technology in order to focus on a
more general class of machines that generate audio or video media;
media-machines. This affinity is precipitated by an animist belief; that all
objects are living or have a spirit. This esoteric philosophy, often
associated with primitive cultures, has been recently re-examined by
contemporary theorists and artists. I will discuss how this discourse has
influenced my art making
Roadmap on structured waves
Structured waves are ubiquitous for all areas of wave physics, both classical
and quantum, where the wavefields are inhomogeneous and cannot be approximated
by a single plane wave. Even the interference of two plane waves, or a single
inhomogeneous (evanescent) wave, provides a number of nontrivial phenomena and
additional functionalities as compared to a single plane wave. Complex
wavefields with inhomogeneities in the amplitude, phase, and polarization,
including topological structures and singularities, underpin modern nanooptics
and photonics, yet they are equally important, e.g., for quantum matter waves,
acoustics, water waves, etc. Structured waves are crucial in optical and
electron microscopy, wave propagation and scattering, imaging, communications,
quantum optics, topological and non-Hermitian wave systems, quantum
condensed-matter systems, optomechanics, plasmonics and metamaterials, optical
and acoustic manipulation, and so forth. This Roadmap is written collectively
by prominent researchers and aims to survey the role of structured waves in
various areas of wave physics. Providing background, current research, and
anticipating future developments, it will be of interest to a wide
cross-disciplinary audience.Comment: 110 pages, many figure
Spin-Mediated Consciousness: Theory, Experimental Studies, Further Development & Related Topics
We postulate that consciousness is intrinsically connected to quantum spin
since the latter is the origin of quantum effects in both Bohm and Hestenes
quantum formulisms and a fundamental quantum process associated with the
structure of space-time. Applying these ideas to the particular structures and
dynamics of the brain, we have developed a detailed model of quantum
consciousness. We have also carried out experiments from the perspective of our
theory to test the possibility of quantum-entangling the quantum entities
inside the brain with those of an external chemical substance. We found that
applying magnetic pulses to the brain when an anaesthetic was placed in between
caused the brain to feel the effect of said anaesthetic as if the test subject
had actually inhaled the same. We further found that drinking water exposed to
magnetic pulses, laser light or microwave when an anaesthetic was placed in
between also causes brain effects in various degrees. Additional experiments
indicate that the said brain effect is indeed the consequence of quantum
entanglement. Recently we have studied non-local effects in simple physics
systems. We have found that the pH value, temperature and gravity of a liquid
in the detecting reservoirs can be non-locally affected through manipulating
another liquid in a remote reservoir quantum-entangled with the former. In
particular, the pH value changes in the same direction as that being
manipulated; the temperature can change against that of local environment; and
the gravity can change against local gravity. We suggest that they are mediated
by quantum entanglement between nuclear and/or electron spins in treated liquid
and discuss the profound implications of these results. This paper now also
includes materials on further development of the theory and related topics.Comment: 92 pages; expanded content; minor corrections; for additional

DRONE DELIVERY OF CBNRECy – DEW WEAPONS Emerging Threats of Mini-Weapons of Mass Destruction and Disruption (WMDD)
Drone Delivery of CBNRECy – DEW Weapons: Emerging Threats of Mini-Weapons of Mass Destruction and Disruption (WMDD) is our sixth textbook in a series covering the world of UASs and UUVs. Our textbook takes on a whole new purview for UAS / CUAS/ UUV (drones) – how they can be used to deploy Weapons of Mass Destruction and Deception against CBRNE and civilian targets of opportunity. We are concerned with the future use of these inexpensive devices and their availability to maleficent actors. Our work suggests that UASs in air and underwater UUVs will be the future of military and civilian terrorist operations. UAS / UUVs can deliver a huge punch for a low investment and minimize human casualties.https://newprairiepress.org/ebooks/1046/thumbnail.jp
New trends in electrical vehicle powertrains
The electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle play a fundamental role in the forthcoming new paradigms of mobility and energy models. The electrification of the transport sector would lead to advantages in terms of energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, but would also be a great opportunity for the introduction of renewable sources in the electricity sector. The chapters in this book show a diversity of current and new developments in the electrification of the transport sector seen from the electric vehicle point of view: first, the related technologies with design, control and supervision, second, the powertrain electric motor efficiency and reliability and, third, the deployment issues regarding renewable sources integration and charging facilities. This is precisely the purpose of this book, that is, to contribute to the literature about current research and development activities related to new trends in electric vehicle power trains.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
