    An architecture for mining resources complementary to audio-visual streams

    In this paper we attempt to characterize resources of information complementary to audio-visual (A/V) streams and propose their usage for enriching A/V data with semantic concepts in order to bridge the gap between low-level video detectors and high-level analysis. Our aim is to extract cross-media feature descriptors from semantically enriched and aligned resources so as to detect finer-grained events in video.We introduce an architecture for complementary resource analysis and discuss domain dependency aspects of this approach related to our domain of soccer broadcasts

    Undecidability of Fuzzy Description Logics

    Fuzzy description logics (DLs) have been investigated for over two decades, due to their capacity to formalize and reason with imprecise concepts. Very recently, it has been shown that for several fuzzy DLs, reasoning becomes undecidable. Although the proofs of these results differ in the details of each specific logic considered, they are all based on the same basic idea. In this report, we formalize this idea and provide sufficient conditions for proving undecidability of a fuzzy DL. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach by strengthening all previously-known undecidability results and providing new ones. In particular, we show that undecidability may arise even if only crisp axioms are considered

    A new fuzzy ontology development methodology (FODM) proposal

    There is an upsurge in applying fuzzy ontologies to represent vague information in the knowledge representation field. Current research in the fuzzy ontologies paradigm mainly focuses on developing formalism languages to represent fuzzy ontologies, designing fuzzy ontology editors, and building fuzzy ontology applications in different domains. Less focus falls on establishing a formal methodological approach for building fuzzy ontologies. Existing fuzzy ontology development methodologies, such as the IKARUS-Onto methodology and Fuzzy Ontomethodology, provide formalized schedules for the conversion from crisp ontologies into fuzzy ones. However, a formal guidance on how to build fuzzy ontologies from scratch still lacks in current research. Therefore, this paper presents the first methodology, named FODM, for developing fuzzy ontologies from scratch. The proposed FODM can provide a very good guideline for formally constructing fuzzy ontologies in terms of completeness, comprehensiveness, generality, efficiency, and accuracy.
