The Performance Practice of Electroacoustic Music
This book is dedicated to the topic of performance practice of electroacoustic music, focusing mainly on the production of RAI’s Studio di Fonologia in Milan between the 1950s and 1970s. It is the result of an in-depth dialogue between musicology and musical practice, presenting musicological and practice-based contributions, some dealing with specific problems of performance practice, in particular the analysis and interpretation of the aesthetic prerequisites and production conditions of the repertoire from a musicological perspective, others focusing on specific works and on their realisation from a performer’s perspective. Overall, this publication is intended as a contribution to the performance culture of the repertoire

Implementing tuple space on transputer meshes
Research Report submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg, towards a partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree
of Master of Science
Johannesburg 1991This report describes and evaluates an implementation of the Linda tuple space abstraction
on Transputer networks. There is evidence that suggests a need for a new
programming methodology to support Transputer-based applications, and Linda, as
an attractive and elegant alternative to existing methodologies, has great potential
for this role. The research focuses on the implementation of a particular tuple space
model, intermediate uniform distribution, on Transputer meshes. The objective of
the research is to ascertain the extent of the communication overheads inherent in
the implementation and hence evaluate the feasibility of the approach. The overheads
are measured relative to message passing performance on native Transputer
networks, and are shown to be significant. It is concluded that although the specific
tuple space model is not ideally suited to Transputer-based systems and the implementation,
as it stands, is too inefficient to be of practical use, the approach requires
further exploration in order to exhaust its full research potential.MT201
A direct-execution parallel architecture for the Advanced Continuous Simulation Language (ACSL)
A direct-execution parallel architecture for the Advanced Continuous Simulation Language (ACSL) is presented which overcomes the traditional disadvantages of simulations executed on a digital computer. The incorporation of parallel processing allows the mapping of simulations into a digital computer to be done in the same inherently parallel manner as they are currently mapped onto an analog computer. The direct-execution format maximizes the efficiency of the executed code since the need for a high level language compiler is eliminated. Resolution is greatly increased over that which is available with an analog computer without the sacrifice in execution speed normally expected with digitial computer simulations. Although this report covers all aspects of the new architecture, key emphasis is placed on the processing element configuration and the microprogramming of the ACLS constructs. The execution times for all ACLS constructs are computed using a model of a processing element based on the AMD 29000 CPU and the AMD 29027 FPU. The increase in execution speed provided by parallel processing is exemplified by comparing the derived execution times of two ACSL programs with the execution times for the same programs executed on a similar sequential architecture

Controlling Crime in California: Report of the Governor\u27s Select Committee on Law Enforcement Problems
The findings and recommendations of this Select Committee on Law Enforcement Problems are herewith submitted for your information and appropriate implementation. Many of the recommendations require legislation. During the committee\u27s review, its members worked with several legislators to initiate action on items contained in the report, and several measures are ready for legislative action. Other recommrndations can be achieved by administrative steps and will be addressed by the appropriate departments and units of the Executive Branch of state government. Still other improvements must be accomplished by the local agencies involved in the criminal justice system. Therefore, a copy of this report will be furnished to each police department, sheriff, district attorney, court and probation department in the State of California
