A tutorial on interactive Markov chains
Interactive Markov chains (IMCs) constitute a powerful sto- chastic model that extends both continuous-time Markov chains and labelled transition systems. IMCs enable a wide range of modelling and analysis techniques and serve as a semantic model for many industrial and scientific formalisms, such as AADL, GSPNs and many more. Applications cover various engineering contexts ranging from industrial system-on-chip manufacturing to satellite designs. We present a survey of the state-of-the-art in modelling and analysis of IMCs.\ud
We cover a set of techniques that can be utilised for compositional modelling, state space generation and reduction, and model checking. The significance of the presented material and corresponding tools is highlighted through multiple case studies

We consider two-player partial-observation stochastic games where player 1 has partial observation and player 2 has perfect observation. The winning condition we study are omega-regular conditions specified as parity objectives. The qualitative analysis problem given a partial-observation stochastic game and a parity objective asks whether there is a strategy to ensure that the objective is satisfied with probability 1 (resp. positive probability). While the qualitative analysis problems are known to be undecidable even for very special cases of parity objectives, they were shown to be decidable in 2EXPTIME under finite-memory strategies. We improve the complexity and show that the qualitative analysis problems for partial-observation stochastic parity games under finite-memory strategies are
EXPTIME-complete; and also establish optimal (exponential) memory bounds for finite-memory strategies required for qualitative analysis

We consider multi-player graph games with partial-observation and parity objective. While the decision problem for three-player games with a coalition of the first and second players against the third player is undecidable, we present a decidability result for partial-observation games where the first and third player are in a coalition against the second player, thus where the second player is adversarial but weaker due to partial-observation. We establish tight complexity bounds in the case where player 1 is less informed than player 2, namely 2-EXPTIME-completeness for parity objectives. The symmetric case of player 1 more informed than player 2 is much more complicated, and we show that already in the case where player 1 has perfect observation, memory of size non-elementary is necessary in general for reachability objectives, and the problem is decidable for safety and reachability objectives. Our results have tight connections with partial-observation stochastic games for which we derive new complexity results
On the Succinctness of Alternating Parity Good-For-Games Automata
We study alternating parity good-for-games (GFG) automata, i.e., alternating parity automata where both conjunctive and disjunctive choices can be resolved in an online manner, without knowledge of the suffix of the input word still to be read.
We show that they can be exponentially more succinct than both their nondeterministic and universal counterparts. Furthermore, we present a single exponential determinisation procedure and an Exptime upper bound to the problem of recognising whether an alternating automaton is GFG.
We also study the complexity of deciding "half-GFGness", a property specific to alternating automata that only requires nondeterministic choices to be resolved in an online manner. We show that this problem is PSpace-hard already for alternating automata on finite words
Deterministically Isolating a Perfect Matching in Bipartite Planar Graphs
We present a deterministic way of assigning small (log bit) weights to the
edges of a bipartite planar graph so that the minimum weight perfect matching
becomes unique. The isolation lemma as described in (Mulmuley et al. 1987)
achieves the same for general graphs using a randomized weighting scheme,
whereas we can do it deterministically when restricted to bipartite planar
graphs. As a consequence, we reduce both decision and construction versions of
the matching problem to testing whether a matrix is singular, under the promise
that its determinant is 0 or 1, thus obtaining a highly parallel SPL algorithm
for bipartite planar graphs. This improves the earlier known bounds of
non-uniform SPL by (Allender et al. 1999) and by (Miller and Naor 1995,
Mahajan and Varadarajan 2000). It also rekindles the hope of obtaining a
deterministic parallel algorithm for constructing a perfect matching in
non-bipartite planar graphs, which has been open for a long time. Our

Near-Optimal Scheduling for LTL with Future Discounting
We study the search problem for optimal schedulers for the linear temporal
logic (LTL) with future discounting. The logic, introduced by Almagor, Boker
and Kupferman, is a quantitative variant of LTL in which an event in the far
future has only discounted contribution to a truth value (that is a real number
in the unit interval [0, 1]). The precise problem we study---it naturally
arises e.g. in search for a scheduler that recovers from an internal error
state as soon as possible---is the following: given a Kripke frame, a formula
and a number in [0, 1] called a margin, find a path of the Kripke frame that is
optimal with respect to the formula up to the prescribed margin (a truly
optimal path may not exist). We present an algorithm for the problem; it works
even in the extended setting with propositional quality operators, a setting
where (threshold) model-checking is known to be undecidable
