Integral flange design program
An automated interactive flange design program utilizing an electronic desk top calculator is presented. The program calculates the operating and seating stresses for circular flanges of the integral or optional type subjected to internal pressure. The required input information is documented. The program provides an automated procedure for computing stresses in selected flange geometries for comparison to the allowable code values
An automated program for reinforcement requirements for openings in cylindrical pressure vessels
An automated interactive program for calculating the reinforcement requirements for openings in cylindrical pressure vessels subjected to internal pressure is described. The program is written for an electronic desk top calculator. The program calculates the required area of reinforcement for a given opening and compares this value with the area of reinforcement provided by a proposed design. All program steps, operating instructions, and example problems with input and sample output are documented

Digital evidence search kit
With the rapid development of electronic commerce and Internet technology, cyber crimes have become more and more common. There is a great need for automated software systems that can assist law enforcement agencies in cyber crime evidence collection. This paper describes a cyber crime evidence collection tool called DESK (Digital Evidence Search Kit), which is the product of several years of cumulative efforts of our Center together with the Hong Kong Police Force and several other law enforcement agencies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We will use DESK to illustrate some of the desirable features of an effective cyber crime evidence collection tool. © 2005 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
Constructing an ellipse in a rosette section
Geometry is a craft, an amalgam of science and art. A good development should be pleasing to
the mind, kin to poetry. When, after sedentation of a century, a desk was moved in the Laurentian
library1, it was discovered that the architect, Michaelangelo, had inscribed an ellipse in a rosette
section. Clarifying the nature of this ellipse eluded naive automated algebra. Herein I present a
development intended for human appreciation. It is an introduction to the geometry of the rosette
diagram. A sketch of the structure of the space of inscribed ellipses. A beginning to a pragmatic
description of the meaning and relation between some algebraic equations. A plan of attack on
a geometric problem with historical connections. This paper expresses core groundwork I have
been conducting in order to embark on the search for a more classical construction of the complete
elliptically decorated rosette diagram
Automation of electromagnetic compatability (EMC) test facilities
Efforts to automate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test facilities at Marshall Space Flight Center are discussed. The present facility is used to accomplish a battery of nine standard tests (with limited variations) deigned to certify EMC of Shuttle payload equipment. Prior to this project, some EMC tests were partially automated, but others were performed manually. Software was developed to integrate all testing by means of a desk-top computer-controller. Near real-time data reduction and onboard graphics capabilities permit immediate assessment of test results. Provisions for disk storage of test data permit computer production of the test engineer's certification report. Software flexibility permits variation in the tests procedure, the ability to examine more closely those frequency bands which indicate compatibility problems, and the capability to incorporate additional test procedures
Process development for automated solar cell and module production. Task 4: Automated array assembly
The cell preparation station was installed in its new enclosure. Operation verification tests were performed. The detailed layout drawings of the automated lamination station were produced and construction began. All major and most minor components were delivered by vendors. The station framework was built and assembly of components begun
