Drawing from a population of 20,570, a questionnaire was administered to 394 undergraduate library users of which 351 were completed and found useful for data analysis. Reference librarians have a good customer relationship with the users, even though they are yet to fortify their presence in an online environment. Sequential to the above unearthing, recommendations were given that reference librarians should adopt public relation technique in relating to users and other stakeholders of the library. More so, awareness of reference services should be created through library publicity and marketing of library services among the community of users. This study discusses how beauty in diversity is represented through beauty advertisements from L'Oreal Paris true match foundation. By using the transitivity theory from MAK Halliday and social semiotics from Kress and Van Leeuwen, the results obtained from these two theories are that L'Oreal uses models from various races to show the beauty in diversity, especially by using these models L'Oreal also wants to give a message to everyone especially women to love themselves more. With the transitivity theory, the process that most often comes out is the relational process (46.15%) which can indicate that the use of the relational process in advertisements also illustrates that the authors want to explain more about the characteristics of the products they have, which can also serve to convince potential buyers to buy their products

Methods of feature film screenwriting for the female Muslim protagonist

This practice-led research explores screenwriting structures which allow the creation of a strong, triumphant female Muslim protagonist on screen. To achieve this goal, I employ the principles of screenwriting theorists including Syd Field, Maureen Murdock, Robert McKee, Linda Seger and Lisa Dethridge to analyse three-act screenwriting structure. My research indicates that female Muslim characters are often depicted as victims who lose or even die at the end of their stories. I examine various traditional and contemporary images of Muslim women in Hollywood and contrast them with the case-study screenplay, Erin Brockovich. I examine post-colonial theories of Edward said, Homi Bhabha, and Franz Fanon and discuss the historical representation of ‘the other’ onscreen. I relate this theory to the representation of Muslim woman in Hollywood with the help of film critic Jack G Shaheen and post-colonial feminists Mohja Kahf and Marnia Lazreg. I explore the relationship between Western audiences and culturally diverse women referring to the theory of Minha Trinh T, Chandra Talpade Mohanty and Gayatri Spivak. In conclusion, I explore how these theoretical and technical insights were useful in relation to my screenplay project Shaheen. The project screenplay Shaheen is about a Pakistani Muslim woman who struggles against the family tradition of arranged marriage. Shaheen claims her independence by moving to a remote village to open a girl’s school, but one of her students is abducted by the village chief. When Shaheen tries to rescue her student, the village chief threatens to close the school. Shaheen eventually succeeds in her struggle to save her pupil and defeat the chief. In contrast to the often negative stereotypes of Muslim women portrayed in Hollywood, my project is focused on employing the Hollywood style three-act structure to craft a female Muslim protagonist who is strong and capable in response to cultural challenges.

This book is available as open access through the Bloomsbury Open Access programme and is available on www.bloomsburycollections.com. We all know what suburbia is, indeed the majority of us live in it. Yet, despite this ubituity, with no formal definition of the contept, the suburbs have developed in our collective imagination through representations in popular culture, from Terry and June to Desparate Housewives. Rupa Huq examines how suburbia has been depicted in novels, cinema, popular music and on television, charting changing trends both in the suburbs and popular media consumption and production. She looks at the differences in defining suburbia in the US and UK and how characteristics associated with it have shifted in meaning and form

This capstone project explores different themes ranging from bureaucracy to suburban life, from popularity of guns in the South to suburban life and metal fandom, both borrowing ideas from scholars who have done research on these subjects before as well as employing different experiences of mine as an international student, trying to survive in a country where international students are not much welcomed in practise. Comparing my own experiences with other people\u27s experiences, especially with those who are from other Middle Eastern countries, this project aims to show how life can be hard for foreign students, and how little Americans know about other cultures even though America is supposed to be one giant Salad Bowl. This project also explains some truly American terms such as American Dream, attraction of suburban lifestyle, gun craze, from a foreigners point of view
