Social Tag-Based Recommendation Services
Recommendation systems are a staple of Web 2.0. Sites such as Amazon.com and Netflix, for example, use recommendation systems to suggest products to customers. Currently, most of these systems involve looking at numerical ratings to judge user interest. These methods are effective, but they do not take into account the context in which the users rated the objects. This project aims to develop a tag based recommendation system to take context into account. Popular websites such as del.icio.us and Citeulike.org already use this data model, but do not generate recommendations from it.The specific goal is to recommend academic papers to researchers
Tag-Aware Recommender Systems: A State-of-the-art Survey
In the past decade, Social Tagging Systems have attracted increasing
attention from both physical and computer science communities. Besides the
underlying structure and dynamics of tagging systems, many efforts have been
addressed to unify tagging information to reveal user behaviors and
preferences, extract the latent semantic relations among items, make
recommendations, and so on. Specifically, this article summarizes recent
progress about tag-aware recommender systems, emphasizing on the contributions
from three mainstream perspectives and approaches: network-based methods,
tensor-based methods, and the topic-based methods. Finally, we outline some
other tag-related works and future challenges of tag-aware recommendation

Recommending Items in Social Tagging Systems Using Tag and Time Information
In this work we present a novel item recommendation approach that aims at
improving Collaborative Filtering (CF) in social tagging systems using the
information about tags and time. Our algorithm follows a two-step approach,
where in the first step a potentially interesting candidate item-set is found
using user-based CF and in the second step this candidate item-set is ranked
using item-based CF. Within this ranking step we integrate the information of
tag usage and time using the Base-Level Learning (BLL) equation coming from
human memory theory that is used to determine the reuse-probability of words
and tags using a power-law forgetting function.
As the results of our extensive evaluation conducted on data-sets gathered
from three social tagging systems (BibSonomy, CiteULike and MovieLens) show,
the usage of tag-based and time information via the BLL equation also helps to
improve the ranking and recommendation process of items and thus, can be used
to realize an effective item recommender that outperforms two alternative

On content-based recommendation and user privacy in social-tagging systems
Recommendation systems and content filtering approaches based on annotations and ratings, essentially rely on users expressing their preferences and interests through their actions, in order to provide personalised content. This activity, in which users engage collectively has been named social tagging, and it is one of the most popular in which users engage online, and although it has opened new possibilities for application interoperability on the semantic web, it is also posing new privacy threats. It, in fact, consists of describing online or offline resources by using free-text labels (i.e. tags), therefore exposing the user profile and activity to privacy attacks. Users, as a result, may wish to adopt a privacy-enhancing strategy in order not to reveal their interests completely. Tag forgery is a privacy enhancing technology consisting of generating tags for categories or resources that do not reflect the user's actual preferences. By modifying their profile, tag forgery may have a negative impact on the quality of the recommendation system, thus protecting user privacy to a certain extent but at the expenses of utility loss. The impact of tag forgery on content-based recommendation is, therefore, investigated in a real-world application scenario where different forgery strategies are evaluated, and the consequent loss in utility is measured and compared.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author’s final draft
Multiangle social network recommendation algorithms and similarity network evaluation
Multiangle social network recommendation algorithms (MSN) and a new assessmentmethod, called similarity network evaluation (SNE), are both proposed. From the viewpoint of six dimensions, the MSN are classified into six algorithms, including user-based algorithmfromresource point (UBR), user-based algorithmfromtag point (UBT), resource-based algorithm fromtag point (RBT), resource-based algorithm from user point (RBU), tag-based algorithm from resource point (TBR), and tag-based algorithm from user point (TBU). Compared with the traditional recall/precision (RP) method, the SNE is more simple, effective, and visualized. The simulation results show that TBR and UBR are the best algorithms, RBU and TBU are the worst ones, and UBT and RBT are in the medium levels
