Semiclassical strings in AdS(3) X S^2
In this paper, we investigate the semiclassical strings in AdS(3)XS^2, in
which the string configuration of AdS(3) is classified to three cases depending
on the parameters. Each of these has a different anomalous dimension
proportional to logS, S^(1/3) and S, where S is a angular momentum on AdS(3).
Further we generalize the dispersion relations for various string configuration
on AdS(3)XS^2.Comment: 15 pages, added reference
Holographic like models as a five-dimensional rewriting of large-Nc QCD
The AdS/QCD models are known to be tightly related with the QCD sum rules in
the large-Nc (called also planar) limit. Rewriting the theory of infinite tower
of free stable mesons expected in the large-Nc QCD as a five-dimensional theory
we scrutinize to what extend the bottom-up holographic models may be viewed as
an alternative language expressing the phenomenology of planar QCD sum rules.
It is found that many features of AdS/QCD models can be thereby obtained
without invoking prescriptions from the original AdS/CFT correspondence. Under
some assumptions, all possibilities leading to simple Regge trajectories are
classified and it is argued that the most phenomenologically consistent model
is the one called "soft wall model" in the holographic approach, with a
preference to the positive-sign dilaton background.Comment: 33 pages, a considerably modified version, a part of conclusions are

AdS/CFT with orientifolds
AdS solutions of massive type IIA have been classified, and are dual to a
large class of six-dimensional SCFT's whose tensor branch deformations
are described by linear quivers of SU groups. Quivers and AdS vacua depend
solely on the group theory data of the NS5-D6-D8 brane configurations
engineering the field theories. This has allowed for a direct holographic match
of their conformal anomaly. In this paper we extend the match to cases
where O6 and O8-planes are present, thereby introducing SO and USp groups in
the quivers. In all of them we show that the anomaly computed in
supergravity agrees with the holographic limit of the exact field theory
result, which we extract from the anomaly polynomial. As a byproduct we
construct special AdS vacua dual to nonperturbative F-theory
configurations. Finally, we propose a holographic -theorem for
six-dimensional Higgs branch RG flows.Comment: 91 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables, 4 appendices; v2: typos fixed, version

AdS Vacua, Attractor Mechanism and Generalized Geometries
We consider flux vacua attractor equations in type IIA string theory
compactified on generalized geometries with orientifold projections. The
four-dimensional N=1 superpotential in this compactification can be written as
the sum of the Ramond-Ramond superpotential and a term described by
(non)geometric flux charges. We exhibit a simple model in which supersymmetric
AdS and Minkowski solutions are classified by means of discriminants of the two
superpotentials. We further study various configurations without Ramond-Ramond
flux charges. In this case we find supersymmetric AdS vacua both in the case of
compactifications on generalized geometries with SU(3) x SU(3) structures and
on manifolds with an SU(3)-structure without nongeometric flux charges. In the
latter case, we have to introduce correction terms into the prepotential in
order to realize consistent vacua.Comment: 35 pages, accepted version in JHE

Holographic renormalization in dense medium
We investigate the holographic renormalization of a charged black brane with
or without a dilaton field, whose dual field theory describes a dense medium at
finite temperature. In a dense medium, two different thermodynamic descriptions
are possible due to an additional conserved charge. These two different
thermodynamic ensembles are classified by the asymptotic boundary condition of
the bulk gauge field. We show that in the holographic renormalization
regularity of all bulk fields can reproduce consistent thermodynamic quantities
and that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is nothing but the renormalized thermal
entropy of the dual field theory. Furthermore, we find that the
Reissner-Nordstrom AdS black brane is dual to a theory with conformal matter as
expected, whereas a charged black brane with a nontrivial dilaton profile is
mapped to a theory with non-conformal matter although its leading asymptotic
geometry still remains as AdS space.Comment: 24 pages, references adde
