    Formal Desingularization of Surfaces - The Jung Method Revisited -

    In this paper we propose the concept of formal desingularizations as a substitute for the resolution of algebraic varieties. Though a usual resolution of algebraic varieties provides more information on the structure of singularities there is evidence that the weaker concept is enough for many computational purposes. We give a detailed study of the Jung method and show how it facilitates an efficient computation of formal desingularizations for projective surfaces over a field of characteristic zero, not necessarily algebraically closed. The paper includes a generalization of Duval's Theorem on rational Puiseux parametrizations to the multivariate case and a detailed description of a system for multivariate algebraic power series computations.Comment: 33 pages, 2 figure

    δ-Sequences and Evaluation Codes de ned by Plane Valuations at Infinity

    We introduce the concept of δ-sequence. A δ-sequence ∆ generates a well-ordered semigroup S in Z2 or R. We show how to construct (and compute parameters) for the dual code of any evaluation code associated with a weight function defined by ∆ from the polynomial ring in two indeterminates to a semigroup S as above. We prove that this is a simple procedure which can be understood by considering a particular class of valuations of function fields of surfaces, called plane valuations at infinity. We also give algorithms to construct an unlimited number of δ-sequences of the diferent existing types, and so this paper provides the tools to know and use a new large set of codes

    New Directions for Contact Integrators

    Contact integrators are a family of geometric numerical schemes which guarantee the conservation of the contact structure. In this work we review the construction of both the variational and Hamiltonian versions of these methods.
