Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP): Robust and Efficient for Data Centre Applications
Due to rapid advancement in modern technology, as one of the major concerns is the stability of business. The organizations depend on their systems to provide robust and faster processing of information for their operations. Efficient data centers are key sources to handle these operations. If the organizational system is not fully functional, the performance of organization may be impaired or clogged completely. With the developments of real-time applications into data centers for data communications, there is a need to use an alternative of the standard TCP protocol to provide reliable data transfer. Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) consists of several well built-in characteristics that make it capable to work efficiently with real-time applications. In this paper, we evaluate an optimized version of STCP. The optimized version of SCTP is tested against a non optimized version of STCP and TCP in a data center environment. Simulations of the protocols are carried using NS2 simulator.http://arxiv.org/abs/1312.062
Deployment of Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) to Maintain the Applications of Data Centers
With developments of real-time applications into data centers, the need for alternatives of the standard TCP protocol has been prime demand in several applications of data centers. The several alternatives of TCP protocol has been proposed but SCTP has edge due to its several well-built characteristics that make it capable to work efficiently. In this paper, we examine the features of SCTP into data centers like Multi-streaming and Multi-Homing over the features of TCP protocol. In this paper, our objective is to introduce internal problems of data centers. Robust transport protocol reduces the problems with some extend. Focusing the problems of data centers, we also examine weakness of highly deployed standard TCP, and evaluate the performance of SCTP in context of faster communication for data centers. We also discover some weaknesses and shortcomings of SCTP into data centers and try to propose some ways to avoid them by maintaining SCTP native features. To validate strength and weakness of TCP and SCTP, we use ns2 for simulation in context of data center. On basis of findings, we highlight major strength of SCTP. At the end, we Implement finer grain TCP locking mechanisms for larger messages.http://arxiv.org/abs/1311.263

The SCTP has been proposed as an alternative to transport layer protocols in use, with
the ability to support multipath transmission. In this dissertation, we propose the use of
a new handover strategy using the path end-to-end delay as a criterion. This strategy
is designed to preserve the quality of video transmitted using IP networks. The system

ABSTRACT : The utilization of reliable transport protocol over ad hoc networks leads to degraded performances due to the incapacity to react to non congestion errors. We propose to treat this problem by introducing mobility adaptation with a cross layer design. More precisely, we study the performance improvement of the SCTP transport protocol. Very similar to TCP, SCTP includes a multihoming option that improves its performance in the wired networks; we show that this option is also interesting in ad hoc networks. In this thesis, two methods of adaptation are proposed: a local method and a distributed one. First, we propose a local adaptation of the transport according to the network state obtained from the routing protocol. Second, we propose a reverse optimisation, distributed on the nodes, where the routing is adapted from the transport process in such a way that it can take benefit from SCTP multihoming process. We evaluate our propositions through simulations and precise their limitations. Finally, an adaptation architecture using our propositions in function of their limitation domain is proposed to conclude our work
A proposta Optimised Mobility for
do RFC 3963.
In the current world, in which there is a growing trend to use the TCP/IP protocol suite in all types of communication networks, and the number and type of devices using wireless
connections is growing, IP mobility of both nodes and networks is of extreme importance.
This is the main reason why the scientific community has paid and is paying special attention to the proposal and development of IP mobility solutions.
The NEMO Basic Support Protocol, IETF RFC 3963, was developed with the objective of
readily allowing transparent network mobility in the current Internet. Nevertheless, the
simplicity of this solution is at the basis of its limitations, which severely affect its
performance. On the other hand, none of the proposed alternatives is gathering enough
consensus of the community.
In this thesis, a paradigm shift is proposed, consisting of involving end nodes in the network
mobility process. The proposal, named Optimised Mobility for Enhanced Networking,
OMEN, establishes the necessary means for informing end nodes of their mobility condition,
which can then use existing MIPv6 route optimisation mechanisms in order for them not to be subject to the limitations of RFC 3963. In this way, the problem of deciding which and
when to optimise flows is left to the end nodes, which are in the best position to decide. At
the same time, mobile routers are freed from all tasks concerning the mobility management
of a potentially large number of flows, making them lighter and with lower power requirements.
The performed simulations show that the OMEN proposal leads to better performance then
existing network mobility solutions, confirming the advantages of the paradigm shift.
The performed studies were carried out using a specially built network mobility emulator, in
order to overcome the lack of support for this type of mobility and the scalability limitations
of existing simulators. The developed emulator, named mobSim, ran in a large cluster, due
to the size and complexity of the simulated scenarios.IST-FP6-0384239: CONTENT – Network of Excellence on Content Networks and Services
