Both cases of differentiable and nondifferentiable time-delays are considered, and the convex polytopic description is utilized to characterize the genetic network model uncertainties. By using a Lyapunov functional approach and linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques, the stability criteria for the uncertain delayed genetic networks are established in the form of LMIs, which can be readily verified by using standard numerical software. An important feature of the results reported here is that all the stability conditions are dependent on the upper and lower bounds of the delays, which is made possible by using up-to-date techniques for achieving delay dependence. Another feature of the results lies in that a novel Lyapunov functional dependent on the uncertain parameters is utilized, which renders the results to be potentially less conservative than those obtained via a fixed Lyapunov functional for the entire uncertainty domain. A genetic network example is employed to illustrate the applicability and usefulness of the developed theoretical results

In the system under investigation, all the system parameters are allowed to be time-varying, the parameter uncertainties are assumed to be of the polytopic type, and the stochastic nonlinearities are described by statistical means which can cover several classes of well-studied nonlinearities. The purpose of the problem addressed is to design an output feedback controller, over a given finite-horizon, such that the H∞ disturbance attenuation level is guaranteed for the nonlinear stochastic polytopic system in the presence of saturated sensor and actuator outputs. Sufficient conditions are first established for the robust H∞ performance through intensive stochastic analysis, and then a recursive linear matrix inequality (RLMI) approach is employed to design the desired output feedback controller achieving the prescribed H∞ disturbance rejection level. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed controller design scheme. This work was supported under Australian Research Council’s Discovery Projects funding

Robust H∞ filtering for networked systems with multiple state delays
This is the post print version of the article. The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Taylor & Francis Ltd.In this paper, a new robust H∞ filter design problem is studied for a class of networked systems with multiple state-delays. Two kinds of incomplete measurements, namely, measurements with random delays and measurements with stochastic missing phenomenon, are simultaneously considered. Such incomplete measurements are induced by the limited bandwidth of communication networks, and are modelled as a linear function of a certain set of indicator functions that depend on the same stochastic variable. Attention is focused on the analysis and design problems of a full-order robust H∞ filter such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties and all possible incomplete measurements, the filtering error dynamics is exponentially mean-square stable and a prescribed H∞ attenuation level is guaranteed. Some recently reported methodologies, such as delay-dependent and parameter-dependent stability analysis approaches, are employed to obtain less conservative results. Sufficient conditions, which are dependent on the occurrence probability of both the random sensor delay and missing measurement, are established for the existence of the desired filters in terms of certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). When these LMIs are feasible, the explicit expression of the desired filter can also be characterized. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed design method. This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60574084, the National 863 Project of China under Grant 2006AA04Z428, and the National 973 Program of China under Grant 2002CB312200
Probability-guaranteed H∞ finite-horizon filtering for a class of nonlinear time-varying systems with sensor saturations
This is the Post-Print version of the Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 ElsevierIn this paper, the probability-guaranteed H∞ finite-horizon filtering problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear time-varying systems with uncertain parameters and sensor saturations. The system matrices are functions of mutually independent stochastic variables that obey uniform distributions over known finite ranges. Attention is focused on the construction of a time-varying filter such that the prescribed H∞ performance requirement can be guaranteed with probability constraint. By using the difference linear matrix inequalities (DLMIs) approach, sufficient conditions are established to guarantee the desired performance of the designed finite-horizon filter. The time-varying filter gains can be obtained in terms of the feasible solutions of a set of DLMIs that can be recursively solved by using the semi-definite programming method. A computational algorithm is specifically developed for the addressed probability-guaranteed H∞ finite-horizon filtering problem. Finally, a simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed filtering scheme. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 60825303 and

Since the bandwidth of the communication channel is limited, packets from different sensors may be dropped with different missing rates during the transmission. Therefore, a diagonal matrix is introduced to describe the multiple packet dropout phenomenon and the parameter uncertainties are supposed to reside in a polytope. The aim is to design a robust fault detection filter such that, for all probabilistic packet dropouts, all unknown inputs and admissible uncertain parameters, the error between the residual (generated by the fault detection filter) and the fault signal is made as small as possible. Two parameter-dependent approaches are proposed to obtain less conservative results. The existence of the desired fault detection filter can be determined from the feasibility of a set of linear matrix inequalities that can be easily solved by the efficient convex optimization method. A simulation example on a networked three-tank system is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed techniques. This work was supported by national 973 project under Grants 2009CB320602 and 2010CB731800, and the NSFC under Grants

Robust H∞ finite-horizon filtering with randomly occurred nonlinearities and quantization effects
The official published version of this article can be found at the link below. In this paper, the robust H∞ finite-horizon filtering problem is investigated for discrete time-varying stochastic systems with polytopic uncertainties, randomly occurred nonlinearities as well as quantization effects. The randomly occurred nonlinearity, which describes the phenomena of a nonlinear disturbance appearing in a random way, is modeled by a Bernoulli distributed white sequence with a known conditional probability. A new robust H∞ filtering technique is developed for the addressed Itô-type discrete time-varying stochastic systems. Such a technique relies on the forward solution to a set of recursive linear matrix inequalities and is therefore suitable for on-line computation. It is worth mentioning that, in the filtering process, the information of both the current measurement and the previous state estimate is employed to estimate the current state. Finally, a simulation example is exploited to show the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, the National 973 Program of China under Grant 2009CB320600, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60974030, the Shanghai Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 10ZR1421200, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
