    Interoperability on low power devices

Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Engenharia Electrotécnica e de ComputadoresModel transformation is the process of turning one data format into another according to a specification that contains the operations needed to accomplish it. Therefore it assumes a relevant role on handling interoperability on an “Internet of Things” environment composed by interconnected heterogeneous things with heterogeneous information. However, operate interoperability specifications on this environment is challenging, because model transformation technologies were developed considering an environment composed of devices with processing power and memory, as opposed to the environment exposed. The proposed solution consists in a specific approach, the clear separation of run-time and design time processes and the redefinition of formats used to describe model data and interoperability specification without changing their information. To do so an execution engine architecture is specified, able to execute model transformations according to a lite model data format and an interoperability specification defined as part of the solution

Models simulation and interoperability using MDA and HLA

In the manufacturing context, there have been numerous efforts to use modeling and simulation tools and techniques to improve manufacturing efficiency over the last four decades. While an increasing number of manufacturing system decisions are being made based on the use of models, their use is still sporadic in many manufacturing environments. Our paper advocates for an approach combining MDA (model driven architecture) and HLA (High Level Architecture), the IEEE standard for modeling and simulation, in order to overcome the deficiencies of current simulation methods at the level of interoperability and reuse.Comment: 8 page

A comparison of Spin and the mu mu CRL toolset on HAVi leader election protocol

    Get PDF
This paper describes an attempt to compare two toolsets allowing generation of finite labeled transition systems from underlying concurrent specification languages. The comparison is done on a specification of the leader election protocol from Home Audio/Video interoperability (HAVi) architecture. Some important semantical differences of PROMELA and mumuCRL are identified, that lead to big differences in size of the state spaces generated for equivalent specifications

Virtualisation of the test environment for signalling

ERTMS is a well-known, well-performing technology applied all over the world but it still lacks flexibility when it comes to authorisation and certification procedures. The key of its success in the future lies as much in cost reduction as in simplification of placing in service procedures. This holds true for the implementation of a new subsystem and even more so for new software releases related to subsystems already in service. Currently the placing in service process of ETCS components and subsystems requires a large amount of tests due to the complexity of the signalling systems and the different engineering rules applied. The S2R Multi-Annual Action Plan states that the effort and time consumption of these onsite tests are at least 30% for any particular project. VITE research project (VIrtualisation of the Test Environment) aims at reducing these onsite tests to a minimum while ensuring that laboratory tests can serve as evidence for valid system behaviour and are accepted by all stakeholders involved in the placing in service process. This paper presents the first VITE results

A look at cloud architecture interoperability through standards

    Get PDF
Enabling cloud infrastructures to evolve into a transparent platform while preserving integrity raises interoperability issues. How components are connected needs to be addressed. Interoperability requires standard data models and communication encoding technologies compatible with the existing Internet infrastructure. To reduce vendor lock-in situations, cloud computing must implement universal strategies regarding standards, interoperability and portability. Open standards are of critical importance and need to be embedded into interoperability solutions. Interoperability is determined at the data level as well as the service level. Corresponding modelling standards and integration solutions shall be analysed

A State-of-the-art Integrated Transportation Simulation Platform

Nowadays, universities and companies have a huge need for simulation and modelling methodologies. In the particular case of traffic and transportation, making physical modifications to the real traffic networks could be highly expensive, dependent on political decisions and could be highly disruptive to the environment. However, while studying a specific domain or problem, analysing a problem through simulation may not be trivial and may need several simulation tools, hence raising interoperability issues. To overcome these problems, we propose an agent-directed transportation simulation platform, through the cloud, by means of services. We intend to use the IEEE standard HLA (High Level Architecture) for simulators interoperability and agents for controlling and coordination. Our motivations are to allow multiresolution analysis of complex domains, to allow experts to collaborate on the analysis of a common problem and to allow co-simulation and synergy of different application domains. This paper will start by presenting some preliminary background concepts to help better understand the scope of this work. After that, the results of a literature review is shown. Finally, the general architecture of a transportation simulation platform is proposed
