    Sustainable well-being in the rural areas directly depends on their sustainable development. However, sustainable management in contemporary agriculture does not come easy for farmers due to different challenges and quality standards. To meet these challenges and to achieve sustainable development, the agricultural enterprises need an informational support. Therefore this article offers knowledge management as a tool for facilitating agricultural performance and enhancing quality of rural life.Practical application of knowledge management is quite complicated due to its intangible characteristics. Hence, the paper is targeted at developing sustainable organizational model of knowledge management affordable for small and medium enterprises. This model was created after content-analysis of the literature and was verified through an executed survey. The Italian agriculture was considered as a context for this study

    The contemporary knowledge-based economy requires global usage of information in all aspects of modern society. Pertinent information is an important asset for successful business, therefore an application of knowledge management in organisational practice has become a crucial factor for the viability and sustainable development of enterprises. This is particularly relevant for the agricultural context, which needs modern practices for enhancement and development. However, information and knowledge, due to their intangible character, seem difficult to manage and organize. Therefore the paper targeted at developing sustainable organizational model of knowledge management for small and medium enterprises. Italian agriculture is considered as a context for this study, and knowledge management was offered as a tool for facilitating agricultural performance and increasing competitiveness of agricultural sector. A wide concept of knowledge management and specified agricultural context require a theory-based approach to research and a survey. Thus, the research methodology includes the next four parts. The first one contains literature review and examines definitions, strategies, approaches and models of sustainable knowledge management. The second part includes content analysis of 105 scientific publications. The third part of methodology is based on the results of the two previous parts and includes creating the model of knowledge management. Verification of this model is the last part of the research. Verification was executed through on-line questionnaire distributed to Italian agricultural enterprises throughout the country on their intentions and awareness towards knowledge management and developed model of knowledge management. The results of the survey have demonstrated farmer’s incentives to implement the developed knowledge management model with flexible approach in its organisation

    A requirements engineering framework for integrated systems development for the construction industry

    Computer Integrated Construction (CIC) systems are computer environments through which collaborative working can be undertaken. Although many CIC systems have been developed to demonstrate the communication and collaboration within the construction projects, the uptake of CICs by the industry is still inadequate. This is mainly due to the fact that research methodologies of the CIC development projects are incomplete to bridge the technology transfer gap. Therefore, defining comprehensive methodologies for the development of these systems and their effective implementation on real construction projects is vital. Requirements Engineering (RE) can contribute to the effective uptake of these systems because it drives the systems development for the targeted audience. This paper proposes a requirements engineering approach for industry driven CIC systems development. While some CIC systems are investigated to build a broad and deep contextual knowledge in the area, the EU funded research project, DIVERCITY (Distributed Virtual Workspace for Enhancing Communication within the Construction Industry), is analysed as the main case study project because its requirements engineering approach has the potential to determine a framework for the adaptation of requirements engineering in order to contribute towards the uptake of CIC systems

    To Offshore or Nearshore IT services? An investigation using transaction cost theory

    The phenomenon of offshoring, that is, the outsourcing of highly- qualified services into low wage countries was until now considered an economy-specific solution to counteract the constant rise in costs caused by the intensified global competition. At the same time, this form of cross-country division of labor had been prognosticated by various studies to lead to overall positive economic effects. Recently, however, there has been much discussion in the political and management ranks on the controversial issue of the advantageousness of offshoring. The trend, which has been enforced by numerous consultants, has led to a decline in domestic employment as well as not accomplishing cost savings thus intensifying doubt over its validity. The following paper deals with the advantageousness of offshoring in the case of IT services. In order to detach oneself from the limited account given by looking at wage costs, the analysis is conducted from the viewpoint of transaction cost theory. In doing so, it constantly distinguishes between offshoring and nearshoring strategies and the alternatives in examining specific costs are weighed out against each other. It will be shown that relevant motivation and coordination costs vary depending on not only geographical distance but also cultural difference.     Recent technical innovations around HF radar technology and steps towards integrated national HF radar networks

    HF Radar is a proven technology for ocean observing that has at present more than 600 references in the world and which is since April 2016 in application on all continents for the purpose of 2D surface currents and waves monitoring. This has only been possible 44 years after its first implementation in 1972 in San Clemente Island in California, thanks to the permanent evolution of the radar technology with key achievements such as the present unique system compactness and its capability to make a very efficient use of the radio spectrum. This paper firstly presents some of the latest technical innovations around HF radar technology that are making the technology even more reliable, accurate and useful such as the new Automatic Antenna Pattern Generation solution based on AIS vessel positions and the implementation of new added value trajectory models forced by HF Radar surface currents able to accurately predict oil spill transport and movement of particles on the sea or persons adrift. Secondly, we present current plans existing in the Iberian Peninsula HF Radar network to integrate HF Radar technology as an operational component of a national tsunami early warning system. Finally, the advanced HF Radar system implemented by the Direction de la Météorologie Nationale du Royaume du Maroc is presented; one of the latest deployed systems and the first permanent system operating in Africa.Peer Reviewe

In this paper an evaluation of the development and implementation of performance measures is presented. Investigation of the process from an organizational viewpoint provides insights into the advantages and disadvantages of a strategic activity-based development framework for performance measurement. General issues and implications for the management of performance measurement development and implementation provide some fundamental guidelines
