Quality-aware model-driven service engineering
Service engineering and service-oriented architecture as an integration and platform technology is a recent approach to software systems integration. Quality aspects
ranging from interoperability to maintainability to performance are of central importance for the integration of heterogeneous, distributed service-based systems. Architecture models can substantially influence quality attributes of the implemented software systems. Besides the benefits of explicit architectures on maintainability and reuse, architectural constraints such as styles, reference architectures and architectural patterns can influence observable software properties such as performance. Empirical performance evaluation is a process of measuring and evaluating the performance of implemented software. We present an approach for addressing the quality of services and service-based systems at the model-level in the context of model-driven service engineering. Model based code generation for distributed embedded systems
Embedded systems are becoming increasingly complex and more distributed. Cost and quality requirements necessitate reuse of the functional software components for multiple deployment architectures. An important step is the allocation of software components to hardware. During this process the differences between the hardware and application software architectures must be reconciled. In this paper we discuss an architecture driven approach involving model-based techniques to resolve these differences and integrate hardware and software components. The system architecture serves as the underpinning based on which distributed real-time components can be generated. Generation of various embedded system architectures using the same functional architecture is discussed. The approach leverages the following technologies – IME (Integrated Modeling Environment), the SAE AADL (Architecture Analysis and Design Language), and Ocarina. The approach is illustrated using the electronic throttle control system as a case study
Linking Quality Attributes and Constraints with Architectural Decisions
Quality attributes and constraints are among the main drivers of
architectural decision making. The quality attributes are improved or damaged
by the architectural decisions, while restrictions directly include or exclude
parts of the architecture (for example, the logical components or
technologies). We can determine the impact of a decision of architecture in
software quality, or which parts of the architecture are affected by a
constraint, but the difficult problem is whether we are respecting the quality
requirements (requirements on quality attributes) and constraints with all the
architectural decisions made. Currently, the common practice is that architects
use their own experience to design architectures that meet the quality
requirements and restrictions, but at the end, especially for the crucial
decisions, the architect has to deal with complex trade-offs between quality
attributes and juggle possible incompatibilities raised by the constraints. In

Service-oriented architecture is a recent conceptual framework for service-oriented software platforms. Architectures are of great importance for the evolution of
software systems. We present a modelling and transformation technique for service-centric distributed software systems. Architectural configurations, expressed through hierarchical architectural patterns, form the core of a specification and transformation technique. Patterns on different levels of abstraction form transformation invariants that structure and constrain the transformation
process. We explore the role that patterns can play in architecture transformations in terms of functional properties, but also non-functional quality aspects

Proper implementation of selected software product architecture is essential of the quality of its functioning. This paper offers a quantitative approach to assessing the quality of the software architecture by the degree of functionality of creating software. For this purpose is used a structural model witch links the components of software architecture in the graph of the architectural dependencies. Metrics that are calculated for evaluation of the quality of software architecture have been defined via expertise and can be presented either by crisp numbers or by fuzzy variables
A Game of Attribute Decomposition for Software Architecture Design
Attribute-driven software architecture design aims to provide decision
support by taking into account the quality attributes of softwares. A central
question in this process is: What architecture design best fulfills the
desirable software requirements? To answer this question, a system designer
needs to make tradeoffs among several potentially conflicting quality
attributes. Such decisions are normally ad-hoc and rely heavily on experiences.
We propose a mathematical approach to tackle this problem. Game theory
naturally provides the basic language: Players represent requirements, and
strategies involve setting up coalitions among the players. In this way we
propose a novel model, called decomposition game, for attribute-driven design.
We present its solution concept based on the notion of cohesion and
expansion-freedom and prove that a solution always exists. We then investigate
the computational complexity of obtaining a solution. The game model and the
algorithms may serve as a general framework for providing useful guidance for
software architecture design. We present our results through running examples
