On the integration of trust with negotiation, argumentation and semantics
Agreement Technologies are needed for autonomous agents to come to mutually acceptable agreements, typically on behalf of humans. These technologies include trust computing, negotiation, argumentation and semantic alignment. In this paper, we identify a number of open questions regarding the integration of computational models and tools for trust computing with negotiation, argumentation and semantic alignment. We consider these questions in general and in the context of applications in open, distributed settings such as the grid and cloud computing. © 2013 Cambridge University Press.This work was partially supported by the Agreement Technology COST action (IC0801). Nevertheless, no matter how much you trust and love your mobile phone the quality of the information and the user experience is directly associated with the sources and presentation of information. In this perspective, our activities, interactions and preferences help shape the quality of service, content and products we use. Context-aware systems use such information about end-users as input mechanisms for producing applications based on mobile, location, social, cloud and customized content services. This represents new possibilities for extracting aggregated user-centric information and includes novel
sources for context-aware applications. Accordingly, a Design Research based
approach has been taken to further investigate the creation, presentation and tailoring of user-centric information. Through user evaluated experiments findings show how multi-dimensional context-aware information can be used to create adaptive
solutions tailoring the user experience to the users’ needs. Research findings in this
work; highlight possible architectures for integration of cloud computing services in
a heterogeneous mobile environment in future context-aware solutions. When it comes to combining context-aware results from local computations with those of cloud based services, the results provide findings that give users tailored and adapted experiences based on the collective efforts of the two

What is an intelligent building? Analysis of recent interpretations from an international perspective
In recent years, the notion of intelligent buildings (IBs) has become increasingly popular due to their potentials for deploying design initiatives and emerging technologies towards maximized occupants’ comfort and well-being with sustainable design.
However, various definitions, interpretations, and implications regarding the essence of IBs exist. Various key performance indicators of IBs have been proposed in different contexts. This study explores the notion of IBs and presents an analysis of their main constituents. Through a comparison of these constituents in different contexts, this study aims to extract the common features of IBs leading to an evolved definition which could be useful as a reference framework for design, evaluation, and development of future IBs. Findings also scrutinize the long run benefits of IBs, while demonstrating the constraints and challenges of the current international interpretations
Multi Agent Systems in Logistics: A Literature and State-of-the-art Review
Based on a literature survey, we aim to answer our main question: “How should we plan and execute logistics in supply chains that aim to meet today’s requirements, and how can we support such planning and execution using IT?†Today’s requirements in supply chains include inter-organizational collaboration and more responsive and tailored supply to meet specific demand. Enterprise systems fall short in meeting these requirements The focus of planning and execution systems should move towards an inter-enterprise and event-driven mode. Inter-organizational systems may support planning going from supporting information exchange and henceforth enable synchronized planning within the organizations towards the capability to do network planning based on available information throughout the network. We provide a framework for planning systems, constituting a rich landscape of possible configurations, where the centralized and fully decentralized approaches are two extremes. We define and discuss agent based systems and in particular multi agent systems (MAS). We emphasize the issue of the role of MAS coordination architectures, and then explain that transportation is, next to production, an important domain in which MAS can and actually are applied. However, implementation is not widespread and some implementation issues are explored. In this manner, we conclude that planning problems in transportation have characteristics that comply with the specific capabilities of agent systems. In particular, these systems are capable to deal with inter-organizational and event-driven planning settings, hence meeting today’s requirements in supply chain planning and execution.supply chain;MAS;multi agent systems
Monte Carlo Method with Heuristic Adjustment for Irregularly Shaped Food Product Volume Measurement
Volume measurement plays an important role in the production and processing of food products. Various methods have been
proposed to measure the volume of food products with irregular shapes based on 3D reconstruction. However, 3D reconstruction
comes with a high-priced computational cost. Furthermore, some of the volume measurement methods based on 3D reconstruction
have a low accuracy. Another method for measuring volume of objects uses Monte Carlo method. Monte Carlo method performs
volume measurements using random points. Monte Carlo method only requires information regarding whether random points
fall inside or outside an object and does not require a 3D reconstruction. This paper proposes volume measurement using a
computer vision system for irregularly shaped food products without 3D reconstruction based on Monte Carlo method with
heuristic adjustment. Five images of food product were captured using five cameras and processed to produce binary images.
Monte Carlo integration with heuristic adjustment was performed to measure the volume based on the information extracted from
binary images. The experimental results show that the proposed method provided high accuracy and precision compared to the
water displacement method. In addition, the proposed method is more accurate and faster than the space carving method
Disconnect.Me. User Engagement and Facebook
In the beginning of its 10th year of existence Facebook has engaged and connected 1.2 billion monthly active users. This article-based dissertation Disconnect.Me – User Engagement and Facebook approaches this engagement from the opposite direction: disconnection. The research articles focus on social media specific phenomena including leaving Facebook, tactical media works such as Web 2.0 SuicideMachine, memorializing dead Facebook users and Facebook trolling. The media theoretical framework for this study is built around affect theory, software studies, biopolitics as well as different critical studies of new media. The argument is that disconnection is a necessary condition of social media connectivity and exploring social media through disconnection – as an empirical phenomenon, future potential and theoretical notion – helps us to understand how users are engaged with social media, its uses and subsequent business models. The results of the study indicate that engagement is a relation that precedes user participation, a notion often used to conceptualize social media. Furthermore, this engagement turns the focus from users’ actions towards the platform and how the platform actively controls users and their behavior. Facebook aims to engage new users and maintain the old ones by renewing its platform and user interface. User engagement with the platform is thus social but also technical and affective. When engaged, the user is positioned to algorithmic connectivity where machinc processes mine user data. This data is but sold also used to affect and engage other users. In the heart of this study is the notion that our networked engagements matter and disconnection can bring us to the current limits of network culture.Disconnect.Me – Käyttäjien sitoutuminen ja Facebook
Kymmenessä vuodessa Facebook on onnistunut sitouttamaan 1.2 miljardia käyttäjää. Artikkeliväitöskirja Disconnect.Me – Käyttäjien sitoutuminen ja Facebook tarkastelee Facebookia näiden käyttäjien menettämisen näkökulmasta. Artikkeleissa tutkimuskohteena ovat muun muassa Facebookin käytön lopettaminen, käyttäjätilin tuhoavat mediataideteokset, muistoprofiilit ja Facebook-trollit. Menetelmällisesti tutkielma nojautuu erilaisiin mediateoreettisiin näkökulmiin painottuen erityisesti affektiteoriaan, software-tutkimukseen, biopolitiikkaan ja kriittiseen uuden median tutkimukseen. Kirjan keskeinen väite on, että tutkimalla käyttäjien menettämistä empiirisenä ilmiönä, tulevaisuuden uhkana sekä teoreettisena käsitteenä on mahdollista ymmärtää, miten käyttäjät sekä sitoutuvat että sitoutetaan osaksi sosiaalisen median toimintatapoja ja liiketoimintamalleja. Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittavat, että käyttäjien sitoutuminen on suhde, joka edeltää käyttäjien osallistumista; tässä suhteessa olennaista on, mitä sosiaalisen median alusta voi tehdä käyttäjälle ei niinkään se, mitä käyttäjät itse sosiaalisessa mediassa tekevät. Uudistamalla lakkaamatta alustaansa ja käyttöliittymäänsä Facebook pyrkiikin sitouttamaan uusia käyttäjiä ja samalla pysäyttämään vanhojen käyttäjien menettämisen. Facebookin alusta tekee käyttäjien sitoutumisesta paitsi sosiaalista myös teknistä ja affektiivista. Sitoutumalla käyttäjä asettuu algoritmisen kontrollin pariin, jossa koneelliset prosessit paitsi määrittelevät ja luokittelevat käyttäjänsä datan keruun tarpeisiin myös tekevät käyttäjistä affektiivisia; käyttäjien toiminta ja sisällöntuotanto houkuttelee toisia käyttäjiä sitoutumaan ja osallistumaan Facebookin toimintaan. Sonic Interactions in Virtual Environments: the Egocentric Audio Perspective of the Digital Twin
The relationships between the listener, physical world and virtual
environment (VE) should not only inspire the design of natural multimodal
interfaces but should be discovered to make sense of the mediating action of VR
technologies. This chapter aims to transform an archipelago of studies related
to sonic interactions in virtual environments (SIVE) into a research field
equipped with a first theoretical framework with an inclusive vision of the
challenges to come: the egocentric perspective of the auditory digital twin. In
a VE with immersive audio technologies implemented, the role of VR simulations
must be enacted by a participatory exploration of sense-making in a network of
human and non-human agents, called actors. The guardian of such locus of agency
is the auditory digital twin that fosters intra-actions between humans and
technology, dynamically and fluidly redefining all those configurations that
are crucial for an immersive and coherent experience. The idea of entanglement
theory is here mainly declined in an egocentric-spatial perspective related to
emerging knowledge of the listener's perceptual capabilities. This is an
actively transformative relation with the digital twin potentials to create
movement, transparency, and provocative activities in VEs. The chapter contains
an original theoretical perspective complemented by several bibliographical
references and links to the other book chapters that have contributed

Minimally-intrusive Navigation in Dense Crowds with Integrated Macro and Micro-level Dynamics
In mobile robot navigation, despite advancements, the generation of optimal
paths often disrupts pedestrian areas. To tackle this, we propose three key
contributions to improve human-robot coexistence in shared spaces. Firstly, we
have established a comprehensive framework to understand disturbances at
individual and flow levels. Our framework provides specialized computational
strategies for in-depth studies of human-robot interactions from both micro and
macro perspectives. By employing novel penalty terms, namely Flow Disturbance
Penalty (FDP) and Individual Disturbance Penalty (IDP), our framework
facilitates a more nuanced assessment and analysis of the robot navigation's
impact on pedestrians. Secondly, we introduce an innovative sampling-based
navigation system that adeptly integrates a suite of safety measures with the
predictability of robotic movements. This system not only accounts for
traditional factors such as trajectory length and travel time but also actively
incorporates pedestrian awareness. Our navigation system aims to minimize
disturbances and promote harmonious coexistence by considering safety
protocols, trajectory clarity, and pedestrian engagement. Lastly, we validate
our algorithm's effectiveness and real-time performance through simulations and
real-world tests, demonstrating its ability to navigate with minimal pedestrian
