Human motion modeling and simulation by anatomical approach
To instantly generate desired infinite realistic human motion is still a great challenge in virtual human simulation. In this paper, the novel emotion effected motion classification and anatomical motion classification are presented, as well as motion capture and parameterization methods. The framework for a novel anatomical approach to model human motion in a HTR (Hierarchical Translations and Rotations) file format is also described. This novel anatomical approach in human motion modelling has the potential to generate desired infinite human motion from a compact motion database. Human activity tracking from moving camera stereo data
We present a method for tracking human activity using observations from a moving narrow-baseline stereo camera. Range data are computed from the disparity between stereo image pairs. We propose a novel technique for calculating weighting scores from range data given body configuration hypotheses. We use a modified Annealed Particle Filter to recover the optimal tracking candidate from a low dimensional latent space computed from motion capture data and constrained by an activity model. We evaluate the method on synthetic data and on a walking sequence recorded using a moving hand-held stereo camera
Seeing it all: Convolutional network layers map the function of the human visual system
International audienceConvolutional networks used for computer vision represent candidate models for the computations performed in mammalian visual systems. We use them as a detailed model of human brain activity during the viewing of natural images by constructing predictive models based on their different layers and BOLD fMRI activations. Analyzing the predictive performance across layers yields characteristic fingerprints for each visual brain region: early visual areas are better described by lower level convolutional net layers and later visual areas by higher level net layers, exhibiting a progression across ventral and dorsal streams. Our predictive model generalizes beyond brain responses to natural images. We illustrate this on two experiments, namely retinotopy and face-place oppositions, by synthesizing brain activity and performing classical brain mapping upon it. The synthesis recovers the activations observed in the corresponding fMRI studies, showing that this deep encoding model captures representations of brain function that are universal across experimental paradigms
Reasoning About Liquids via Closed-Loop Simulation
Simulators are powerful tools for reasoning about a robot's interactions with
its environment. However, when simulations diverge from reality, that reasoning
becomes less useful. In this paper, we show how to close the loop between
liquid simulation and real-time perception. We use observations of liquids to
correct errors when tracking the liquid's state in a simulator. Our results
show that closed-loop simulation is an effective way to prevent large
divergence between the simulated and real liquid states. As a direct
consequence of this, our method can enable reasoning about liquids that would
otherwise be infeasible due to large divergences, such as reasoning about
