Standardisation of Provenance Systems in Service Oriented Architectures --- White Paper

    No full text
This White Paper presents provenance in computer systems as a mechanism by which business and e-science can undertake compliance validation and analysis of their past processes. We discuss an open approach that can bring benefits to application owners, IT providers, auditors and reviewers. In order to capitalise on such benefits, we make specific recommendations to move forward a standardisation activity in this domain

    Forensic capabilities for service-oriented architectures

This report describes a framework to provide on-line forensic capabilities to service oriented architecture via Forensic Web Services (FWS) and runtime execution monitoring. The FWS is a new type of web services to be used by other web services (of an independent agency) to securely maintain transactional records of interest between other web services. The framework uses runtime execution monitoring to search the transactional log for interesting (or suspicious) service invocation sequences to recreate non-repudiable evidence of transactional history for use in a court of law.Contract Number: N6600107WR00222Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited

    Access control and service-oriented architectures

Access Control and Service-Oriented Architectures" investigates in which way logical access control can be achieved effectively, in particular in highly dynamic environments such as service-oriented architectures (SOA's). The author combines state-of-the-art best-practice and projects these onto the SOA. In doing so, he identifies strengths of current approaches, but also pinpoints weaknesses. These weaknesses are subsequently mitigated by introducing an innovative new framework called EFSOC. The framework is validated empirically and preliminary implementations are discussed.

Migrating Legacy Systems to Service-Oriented Architectures

    Get PDF
This paper presents a methodology for migrating legacy systems towards Service-Oriented Architectures. The approach is based on source code analysis for identifying the contribution of code fragments to architectural elements and graph transformation for architectural migration, allowing for a high degree of automation. In order to transform existing application architectures into SOAs, the methodology has to be used in two dimensions, a technological and functional one. The work presented here is being developed in the context of a collaboration between academia and industry, and is aimed at being applied in real reengineering projects

A metadata service for service oriented architectures

Service oriented architectures provide a modern paradigm for web services allowing seamless interoperation among network applications and supporting a flexible approach to building large complex information systems. A number of industrial standards have emerged to exploit this paradigm with the development o f the J2E E and .N E T infrastructure platforms, communication protocol SOAP, d e scription language WSDL and orchestration languages BPEL, XLANG and WSCI. At the same time the Semantic Web enables automated use of ontologies to describe web services in a machine interpretable language. To enable process composition and large scale resource integration over heterogeneous sources a new research in itiative is needed. Current initiatives have identified the role of Peer-to-Peer networks and Service Oriented Architectures to enable large scale resource communication an d integration. However this approach neglects to identify or utilise the role of Semantic Web technologies to promote greater automation and reliability using service semantics, thus a new framework is required adopting Peer-to-Peer networks, Service Oriented Architectures and Semantic Web technologies. In this context, this thesis presents a management an d storage framework for a distributed service repository over a super peer network to facilitate process composition
