A Study of Access Control for Electronic Health Records
The expansion between Information Technology and Healthcare has created many new options for both disciplines, as well as challenges. One of these topics is the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and the push for a universal record. A challenge for this topic is access control: how to keep patient’s personal health information secure, but at the same time accessible to all fields of healthcare and accomplish this within the federal privacy laws made by our government. This study focuses on the idea of a single EHR containing all the different medical information for all the areas of healthcare for a patient. This single EHR would be stored in a database and its use secured though the use of access control using a hierarchy of user groups, which would be divided into different roles to assign access privileges. This access control method would be implemented by possibly using mechanisms such as Bell-LaPadulla Model, The Strawman Design, Public/Private Key algorithms, or other methods. The first goal would be to create this structure for a single entity (e.g., One Hospital, Clinic, or Doctor’s office) and then progress to a distributed model where multiple entities can store and share information
Blockchain for Healthcare Systems: Concepts, Applications, Challenges, and Future Trends
-Electronic medical records are digital documents that contain medical data pertaining to a patient\u27s medical care. Because electronic health records are regularly exchanged amongst stakeholders in healthcare, they are prone to a range of challenges such as data misuse and loss of privacy and security. These challenges may be solved by utilizing blockchain-based technologies in the healthcare area. Blockchain is a decentralized innovative technology that can completely transform, reshape, and reinvent how data is stored and processed in the healthcare sector. In this article, we offer an overview of the blockchain, its formation, its types, and how it works. We review the various applications of blockchain in the medical field and how Blockchain revolutionized the medical industry. We highlight previous scientific research on the application of blockchain to electronic health record systems (EHRs). Finally, we discuss the open research problems that limit the use of blockchain in the medical field

Information sharing in e-government initiatives: Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues concerning local government
In e-government initiatives, the sharing of information is crucial for empowering citizens and boosting joined-up services. The lack of clear guidance on how to share government data can potentially harm Freedom of Information and or Data Protection rights. This article addresses this issue by drawing from the main concerns governments have when dealing with Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues. As illustration, we comment on the findings of a case study we have conducted in a Local Authority in the United Kingdom (UK). Our findings show that local government managers might be struggling to adequately implement Freedom of Information and Data Protection aspects. Cultural aspects are subtly present in this context, as managers’ values and beliefs regarding public access to information might be biased toward either information disclosure or information withholding
Healthcare Information Privacy Research: Iusses, Gaps and What Next?
The proliferation of e-health holds great promises in sharing medical data, improving healthcare quality, saving patient lives and reducing costs. However, these potential benefits also bring much attention to the issues of information privacy. Given that medical data disclosure is the second highest reported breaches, it is imperative to understand both information privacy and its context in healthcare. Just as lack of appropriate privacy measures might cause economic harm or denied service from insurance or employers, tight privacy can prevent care providers from accessing patient information in time to save lives. This paper takes an integrated look into the area of healthcare information privacy from both MIS and health informatics perspectives. Based on the literature review and our personal communication with health informatics experts, we identified and presented four major themes: 1) scope and definition of privacy and electronic health records, 2) the information privacy issues and threats, 3) the countermeasures used to address and manage information privacy and 4) why privacy responses matter. This paper provides a unique perspective to privacy in the context of healthcare by focusing on the issues, the matching countermeasures and the drivers behind organizational behaviors into how they manage these threats
TACTICAL BLOCKCHAIN TO PROVIDE DATA PROVENANCE IN SUPPORT OF INTERNET OF BATTLEFIELD THINGS AND BIG DATA ANALYTICS
This capstone project evaluated the use of blockchain technology to address a number of challenges with increasing amounts of disparate sensor data and an information-rich landscape that can quickly overwhelm effective decision-making processes. The team explored how blockchain can be used in a variety of defense applications to verify users, validate sensor data fed into artificial intelligence models, limit access to data, and provide an audit trail across the data life cycle. The team developed a conceptual design for implementing blockchain for tactical data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications; identified challenges and limitations involved in implementing blockchain for the tactical domain; described the benefits of blockchain for these various applications; and evaluated this project’s findings to propose future research into a wider set of blockchain applications. The team did this through the development of three use cases. One use case demonstrated the use of blockchain at the tactical edge in a “data light” information environment. The second use case explored the use of blockchain in securing medical information in the electronic health record. The third use case studied blockchain’s application in the use of multiple sensors collecting data for chemical weapons defense to support measurement and signature intelligence analysis using artificial intelligence and machine learning.Civilian, Department of the ArmyCivilian, Department of the ArmyCivilian, Department of the ArmyCivilian, Department of the ArmyCivilian, Department of the ArmyApproved for public release. Just What the Doctor Ordered: Protecting Privacy Without Impeding Development of Digital Pills
Using technology, humans are receiving more and more information about the world around them via the Internet of Things, and the next area of connection will be the inside of the human body. Several forms of digital pills that send information from places like the human digestive tract or bloodstream are being developed, with a few already in use. These pills could stand to provide information that could drastically improve the lives of many people, but they also have privacy and data security implications that could put consumers at great risk. This Note analyzes these risks and suggests that short-term improvements in warning and obtaining consent from consumers be implemented, while lawmakers carefully consider use constraints in order to both protect consumers and allow the development of what could be a highly beneficial form of technology

This survey offers a comprehensive examination of emerging blockchain-based healthcare technologies and their associated applications. It delves into key research areas within this rapidly growing field, providing detailed insights. Moreover, it underscores the potential of blockchain technology to revolutionize the healthcare industry by enhancing data security, fostering transparency, and enabling innovative solutions
Analysis of AI-based Tools Challenges and Opportunities for Public Health Care Solutions
Healthcare Systems are essential to maintaining people\u27s health. Determining precise diagnoses is an essential step in this procedure. As sources point out, missed and incorrect diagnoses as a widespread problem, a solution needs to be found. Emergency rooms are known to be stressful workplaces, and diagnostic errors are frequently made there. Systems, products, and services are changing quickly due to technology advancements that today\u27s companies must adapt to. One such technology that can help with diagnosis is artificial intelligence (AI), but it also presents ethical, legal, and technical difficulties. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine how AI can impact diagnosis accuracy and how the technical, ethical, and legal issues of its incorporation into healthcare are related. This study looks at the idea of patient empowerment and how it might be applied to enhance the provision of patient health care
