Modulation parameter estimation of LFM interference for direct sequence spread spectrum communication system in alpha-stable noise
The linear frequency modulation (LFM) interference is one of the typical broadband interferences in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) communication system. In this article, a novel modulation parameter estimation method of LFM interference is proposed for the DSSS communication system in alpha-stable noise. To accurately estimate the modulation parameters, the alpha-stable noise should be eliminated first. Thus, we formulate a new generalized extended linear chirplet transform to suppress the alpha-stable noise, for a robust time-frequency, transformation of LFM interference is realized. Then, using the Radon transform, the maximum value after transformation and the chirp rate according to the angle related to the maximum value are estimated. In addition, a generalized Fourier transform is introduced to estimate the initial frequency of the LFM interference. For the performance analysis, the Cramér-Rao lower bounds of the estimated chirp rate and the initial frequency of the LFM interference in the presence of alpha-stable noise are derived. Moreover, the asymptotic properties of the modulation parameter estimator are analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed parameter estimation method significantly outperforms existing methods, especially in a low SNR regime
A new method of accurate broken rotor bar diagnosis based on modulation signal bispectrum analysis of motor current signals
Motor current signature analysis (MCSA) has been an effective way of monitoring electrical machines for many years. However, inadequate accuracy in diagnosing incipient broken rotor bars (BRB) has motivated many studies into improving this method. In this paper a modulation signal bispectrum (MSB) analysis is applied to motor currents from different broken bar cases and a new MSB based sideband estimator (MSB-SE) and sideband amplitude estimator are introduced for obtaining the amplitude at (1±2s)fs(1±2s)fs (s is the rotor slip and fsfs is the fundamental supply frequency) with high accuracy. As the MSB-SE has a good performance of noise suppression, the new estimator produces more accurate results in predicting the number of BRB, compared with conventional power spectrum analysis. Moreover, the paper has also developed an improved model for motor current signals under rotor fault conditions and an effective method to decouple the BRB current which interferes with that of speed oscillations associated with BRB. These provide theoretical supports for the new estimators and clarify the issues in using conventional bispectrum analysis
Multimode laser cooling and ultra-high sensitivity force sensing with nanowires
Photo-induced forces can be used to manipulate and cool the mechanical motion
of oscillators. When the oscillator is used as a force sensor, such as in
atomic force microscopy, active feedback is an enticing route to enhancing
measurement performance. Here, we show broadband multimode cooling of dB
down to a temperature of ~K in the stationary regime. Through the use
of periodic quiescence feedback cooling, we show improved signal-to-noise
ratios for the measurement of transient signals. We compare the performance of
real feedback to numerical post-processing of data and show that both methods
produce similar improvements to the signal-to-noise ratio of force
measurements. We achieved a room temperature force measurement sensitivity of
N with integration time of less than ms. The high
precision and fast force microscopy results presented will potentially benefit
applications in biosensing, molecular metrology, subsurface imaging and
accelerometry.Comment: 16 pages and 3 figures for the main text, 14 pages and 5 figures for
