Recent Advancements in Augmented Reality for Robotic Applications: A Survey
Robots are expanding from industrial applications to daily life, in areas such as medical robotics, rehabilitative robotics, social robotics, and mobile/aerial robotics systems. In recent years, augmented reality (AR) has been integrated into many robotic applications, including medical, industrial, humanârobot interactions, and collaboration scenarios. In this work, AR for both medical and industrial robot applications is reviewed and summarized. For medical robot applications, we investigated the integration of AR in (1) preoperative and surgical task planning; (2) image-guided robotic surgery; (3) surgical training and simulation; and (4) telesurgery. AR for industrial scenarios is reviewed in (1) humanârobot interactions and collaborations; (2) path planning and task allocation; (3) training and simulation; and (4) teleoperation control/assistance. In addition, the limitations and challenges are discussed. Overall, this article serves as a valuable resource for working in the field of AR and robotic research, offering insights into the recent state of the art and prospects for improvement
ADVANCED IMAGING AND ROBOTICS TECHNOLOGIES FOR MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
Due to the importance of surgery in the medical field, a large amount of research has been conducted in this area. Imaging and robotics technologies provide surgeons with the advanced eye and hand to perform their surgeries in a safer and more accurate manner. Recently medical images have been utilized in the operating room as well as in the diagnostic stage. If the image to patient registration is done with sufficient accuracy, medical images can be used as "a map" for guidance to the target lesion. However, the accuracy and reliability of the surgical navigation system should be sufficiently verified before applying it to the patient. Along with the development of medical imaging, various medical robots have also been developed. In particular, surgical robots have been researched in order to reach the goal of minimal invasiveness. The most important factors to consider are determining the demand, the strategy for their use in operating procedures, and how it aids patients. In addition to the above considerations, medical doctors and researchers should always think from the patient's point of view. In this article, the latest medical imaging and robotic technologies focusing on surgical applications are reviewed based upon the factors described in the above. © 2011 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.1
Robot ontologies for sensor- and Image-guided surgery
Robots and robotics are becoming more com-
plex and flexible, due to technological advancement, improved
sensing capabilities and machine intelligence. Service robots
target a wide range of applications, relying on advanced
HumanâRobot Interaction. Medical robotics is becoming a
leading application area within, and the number of surgical,
rehabilitation and hospital assistance robots is rising rapidly.
However, the complexity of the medical environment has been
a major barrier, preventing a wider use of robotic technology,
thus mostly teleoperated, human-in-the-loop control solutions
emerged so far. Providing smarter and better medical robots
requires a systematic approach in describing and translating
human processes for the robots. It is believed that ontologies can
bridge human cognitive understanding and robotic reasoning
(machine intelligence). Besides, ontologies serve as a tool and
method to assess the added value robotic technology brings
into the medical environment. The purpose of this paper is to
identify relevant ontology research in medical robotics, and to
review the state-of-the art. It focuses on the surgical domain,
fundamental terminology and interactions are described for two
example applications in neurosurgery and orthopaedics
Expectations and Perceptions of Healthcare Professionals for Robot Deployment in Hospital Environments during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Several challenges to guarantee medical care have been exposed during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Although the literature has shown some robotics applications to overcome the potential hazards and risks in hospital environments, the implementation of those developments is limited, and few studies measure the perception and the acceptance of clinicians. This work presents the design and implementation of several perception questionnaires to assess healthcare provider's level of acceptance and education toward robotics for COVID-19 control in clinic scenarios. Specifically, 41 healthcare professionals satisfactorily accomplished the surveys, exhibiting a low level of knowledge about robotics applications in this scenario. Likewise, the surveys revealed that the fear of being replaced by robots remains in the medical community. In the Colombian context, 82.9% of participants indicated a positive perception concerning the development and implementation of robotics in clinic environments. Finally, in general terms, the participants exhibited a positive attitude toward using robots and recommended them to be used in the current panorama

Advanced medical micro-robotics for early diagnosis and therapeutic interventions
Recent technological advances in micro-robotics have demonstrated their immense potential for biomedical applications. Emerging micro-robots have versatile sensing systems, flexible locomotion and dexterous manipulation capabilities that can significantly contribute to the healthcare system. Despite the appreciated and tangible benefits of medical micro-robotics, many challenges still remain. Here, we review the major challenges, current trends and significant achievements for developing versatile and intelligent micro-robotics with a focus on applications in early diagnosis and therapeutic interventions. We also consider some recent emerging micro-robotic technologies that employ synthetic biology to support a new generation of living micro-robots. We expect to inspire future development of micro-robots toward clinical translation by identifying the roadblocks that need to be overcome
Climbing and Walking Robots
Nowadays robotics is one of the most dynamic fields of scientific researches. The shift of robotics researches from manufacturing to services applications is clear. During the last decades interest in studying climbing and walking robots has been increased. This increasing interest has been in many areas that most important ones of them are: mechanics, electronics, medical engineering, cybernetics, controls, and computers. Todayâs climbing and walking robots are a combination of manipulative, perceptive, communicative, and cognitive abilities and they are capable of performing many tasks in industrial and non- industrial environments. How Visual Stimuli Evoked P300 is Transforming the BrainâComputer Interface Landscape: A PRISMA Compliant Systematic Review
Non-invasive Visual Stimuli evoked-EEGbased P300 BCIs have gained immense attention in recent years due to their ability to help patients with disability using BCI-controlled assistive devices and applications. In addition to the medical field, P300 BCI has applications in entertainment, robotics, and education. The current article systematically reviews 147 articles that were published between 2006-2021*. Articles that pass the pre-defined criteria are included in the study. Further, classification based on their primary focus, including article orientation, participantsâ age groups, tasks given, databases, the EEG devices used in the studies, classification models, and application domain, is performed. The application-based classification considers a vast horizon, including medical assessment, assistance, diagnosis, applications, robotics, entertainment, etc. The analysis highlights an increasing potential for P300 detection using visual stimuli as a prominent and legitimate research area and demonstrates a significant growth in the research interest in the field of BCI spellers utilizing P300. This expansion was largely driven by the spread of wireless EEG devices, advances in computational intelligence methods, machine learning, neural networks and deep learning
