Image Type Water Meter Character Recognition Based on Embedded DSP

In the paper, we combined DSP processor with image processing algorithm and studied the method of water meter character recognition. We collected water meter image through camera at a fixed angle, and the projection method is used to recognize those digital images. The experiment results show that the method can recognize the meter characters accurately and artificial meter reading is replaced by automatic digital recognition, which improves working efficiency

A Comparative study of Arabic handwritten characters invariant feature

    Get PDF
This paper is practically interested in the unchangeable feature of Arabic handwritten character. It presents results of comparative study achieved on certain features extraction techniques of handwritten character, based on Hough transform, Fourier transform, Wavelet transform and Gabor Filter. Obtained results show that Hough Transform and Gabor filter are insensible to the rotation and translation, Fourier Transform is sensible to the rotation but insensible to the translation, in contrast to Hough Transform and Gabor filter, Wavelets Transform is sensitive to the rotation as well as to the translation

Handwritten Arabic character recognition: which feature extraction method?

    Get PDF
Recognition of Arabic handwriting characters is a difficult task due to similar appearance of some different characters. However, the selection of the method for feature extraction remains the most important step for achieving high recognition accuracy. The purpose of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of Discrete Cosine Transform and Discrete Wavelet transform to capture discriminative features of Arabic handwritten characters. A new database containing 5600 characters covering all shapes of Arabic handwriting characters has also developed for the purpose of the analysis. The coefficients of both techniques have been used for classification based on a Artificial Neural Network implementation. The results have been analysed and the finding have demonstrated that a Discrete Cosine Transform based feature extraction yields a superior recognition than its counterpart

ANN-based Innovative Segmentation Method for Handwritten text in Assamese

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) s has widely been used for recognition of optically scanned character, which partially emulates human thinking in the domain of the Artificial Intelligence. But prior to recognition, it is necessary to segment the character from the text to sentences, words etc. Segmentation of words into individual letters has been one of the major problems in handwriting recognition. Despite several successful works all over the work, development of such tools in specific languages is still an ongoing process especially in the Indian context. This work explores the application of ANN as an aid to segmentation of handwritten characters in Assamese- an important language in the North Eastern part of India. The work explores the performance difference obtained in applying an ANN-based dynamic segmentation algorithm compared to projection- based static segmentation. The algorithm involves, first training of an ANN with individual handwritten characters recorded from different individuals. Handwritten sentences are separated out from text using a static segmentation method. From the segmented line, individual characters are separated out by first over segmenting the entire line. Each of the segments thus obtained, next, is fed to the trained ANN. The point of segmentation at which the ANN recognizes a segment or a combination of several segments to be similar to a handwritten character, a segmentation boundary for the character is assumed to exist and segmentation performed. The segmented character is next compared to the best available match and the segmentation boundary confirmed

Character Recognition (CR) is taken into consideration for years. Meanwhile, the neural network plays an important role in recognizing handwritten characters. Many character identification reports have been publishing in English, but still the minimum training timing and high accuracy of handwriting English symbols and characters by utilizing a method of neural networks are represents as open problems. Therefore, creating a character recognition system manually and automatically is very important. In this research, an attempt has been done to incubate an automatic symbols and character system for recognition for English with minimum training and a very high recognition accuracy and classification timing. In the proposed idea for improving the weights of the MLP neural network method in the process of teaching and learning character recognition, the dragonfly optimization algorithm has been used. The innovation of the proposed detection system is that with a combination of dragonfly optimization technique and MLP neural networks, the precisions of the system are recovered, and the computing time is minimized. The approach which was used in this study to identify English characters has high accuracy and minimum training time

Numeral recognition is an important research direction in field of pattern recognition, and it has broad application prospects. Aiming at four arithmetic operations of general printed formats, this article adopts a multiple hybrid recognition method and is applied to automatically calculating. This method mainly uses BP neural network and template matching method to distinguish the numerals and operators, in order to increase the operation speed and recognition accuracy. Sample images of four arithmetic operations are extracted from printed books, and they are used for testing the performance of proposed recognition method. The experiments show that the method provides correct recognition rate of 96% and correct calculation rate of 89%
