Town of Barrington Natural Resources Inventory: A Reference

Barrington is very fortunate to have an abundance and wide variety of natural resources. Given the Town’s location in the fast-growing seacoast region of New Hampshire, development can be expected to place increasing pressures on the Town and its natural resource base. As described throughout this Natural Resources Inventory, there are many natural resources, special habitats and ecosystems that are valuable and worthy of further consideration for further study, preservation and/or active management. Current zoning ordinances and land use regulations provide some protections. However, the Town can take several additional approaches to maintain and protect its rural character, and itsspecial resources for the benefit of current residents, visitors, wildlife, and future generations

Shoreland Protection in Maine Communities of the Piscataqua River Estuary

The Management Plan for the Piscataqua Rive r Estuary Program’s (PREP) includes several action plans to improve municipal regulatory protections for stream and wetland buffers. This project objective was to identify and prioritize appropriate shoreland areas for protection within Maine towns that are within the PREP region, and inform municipalities and land trusts about these areas, and the importance for protecting them

In a sense we depart from our normal procedures and format in this edition of the journal by focussing on the University of the Orange Free State’s Department of Town and Regional Planning.
