    This talk will give an overview over three related research prototypes for ambient interactive systems. We start by introducing NEMO, the Network Environment for Multimedia Objects. NEMO is a smart media environment for semantically rich, personalised, and device-specific access to and interaction with multimedia objects. Next, a shared electronic whiteboard called ShareBoard is decribed. The goal of ShareBoard is to deliver a natural user interface to working with electronic whiteboards. Integrated within ShareBoard are input devices to recognise the movement of users in the surrounding space and for sensing 3D-gesture. ShareBoard can make use of media objects in NEMO. Last, we introduce the Modular Awareness Construction Kit. MACK is a framework for developing context aware, ambient intelligent systems that blend seamlessly with the users’ everyday route, enabling unobtrusive in-situ interaction and facilitating enhanced cooperation and communication. In the future, MACK is to deliver contextual information to both NEMO and ShareBoard

    The history of computer music is to a great extent the history of algorithmic composition. Here generative approaches are seen as an artistic technique. However, the generation of algorithmic music is normally done in the studio, where the music is aesthetically valued by the composer. The public only gets to know one, or perhaps few, variations of the expressive scope of the algorithmic system itself. In this paper, we describe a generative music system of infinite compositions, where the system itself is aimed for distribution and to be used on personal computers. This system has a dual structure of a compositional score and a performer that performs the score in real-time every time a piece is played. We trace the contextual background of such systems and potential future applications

    Practical Accuracy Limits of Radiation-Aware Magneto-Inductive 3D Localization

    The key motivation for the low-frequency magnetic localization approach is that magnetic near-fields are well predictable by a free-space model, which should enable accurate localization. Yet, limited accuracy has been reported for practical systems and it is unclear whether the inaccuracies are caused by field distortion due to nearby conductors, unconsidered radiative propagation, or measurement noise. Hence, we investigate the practical performance limits by means of a calibrated magnetoinductive system which localizes an active single-coil agent with arbitrary orientation, using 4 mW transmit power at 500 kHz. The system uses eight single-coil anchors around a 3m x 3m area in an office room. We base the location estimation on a complex baseband model which comprises both reactive and radiative propagation. The link coefficients, which serve as input data for location estimation, are measured with a multiport network analyzer while the agent is moved with a positioner device. This establishes a reliable ground truth for calibration and evaluation. The system achieves a median position error of 3.2 cm and a 90th percentile of 8.3 cm. After investigating the model error we conjecture that field distortion due to conducting building structures is the main cause of the performance bottleneck. The results are complemented with predictions on the achievable accuracy in more suitable circumstances using the Cram\'er-Rao lower bound.Comment: To appear at the IEEE ICC 2019 Workshops. Some have historic connotations; others are based on a description of their mission, often resulting in an acronym. Included are names of launch vehicles, spacecraft, manned spaceflight programs, sounding rockets, and NASA field installations. This study is limited to names of approved projects through 1974; it does not include names of numerous projects which have been or are being studied or projects that were canceled or postponed before reaching actual flight

    In collaborative augmented reality (AR) missions, much georegis-tered information is collected and sent to a command and control center. This paper describes the concept and prototypical imple-mentation of a mixed reality (MR) based system that integrates georegistered information from AR systems and other sources on a virtual globe. The application can be used for a command and control center to monitor the field operation where multiple AR users are engaging in a collaborative mission. Google Earth is used to demonstrate the system, which integrates georegistered icons, live video streams from field operators or surveillance cameras, 3D models, and satellite or aerial photos into one MR environment
