    Recognition and translation Arabic-French of Named Entities: case of the Sport places

    The recognition of Arabic Named Entities (NE) is a problem in different domains of Natural Language Processing (NLP) like automatic translation. Indeed, NE translation allows the access to multilingual in-formation. This translation doesn't always lead to expected result especially when NE contains a person name. For this reason and in order to ameliorate translation, we can transliterate some part of NE. In this context, we propose a method that integrates translation and transliteration together. We used the linguis-tic NooJ platform that is based on local grammars and transducers. In this paper, we focus on sport domain. We will firstly suggest a refinement of the typological model presented at the MUC Conferences we will describe the integration of an Arabic transliteration module into translation system. Finally, we will detail our method and give the results of the evaluation

    A semi-supervised learning approach to arabic named entity recognition

    We present ASemiNER, a semi-supervised algorithm for identifying Named Entities (NEs) in Arabic text. ASemiNER does not require annotated training data, or gazetteers. It also can be easily adapted to handle more than the three standard NE types (Person, Location, and Organisation). To our knowledge, our algorithm is the first study that intensively investigates the semi-supervised pattern-based learning approach to Arabic Named Entity Recognition (NER). We describe ASemiNER and compare its performance with different supervised systems. We evaluate this algorithm by way of experiments to extract the three standard named-entity types. Ultimately, our algorithm outperforms simple supervised systems and also performs well when we evaluate its performance in order to extract three new, specialised types of NEs (Politicians, Sportspersons, and Artists)

    Exploration of Approaches to Arabic Named Entity Recognition

    Abstract. The Named Entity Recognition (NER) task has attracted significant attention in Natural Language Processing (NLP) as it can enhance the performance of many NLP applications. In this paper, we compare English NER with Arabic NER in an experimental way to investigate the impact of using different classifiers and sets of features including language-independent and language-specific features. We explore the features and classifiers on five different datasets. We compare deep neural network architectures for NER with more traditional machine learning approaches to NER. We discover that most of the techniques and features used for English NER perform well on Arabic NER. Our results highlight the improvements achieved by using language-specific features in Arabic NER

    A Survey on Arabic Named Entity Recognition: Past, Recent Advances, and Future Trends

    As more and more Arabic texts emerged on the Internet, extracting important information from these Arabic texts is especially useful. As a fundamental technology, Named entity recognition (NER) serves as the core component in information extraction technology, while also playing a critical role in many other Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems, such as question answering and knowledge graph building. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the development of Arabic NER, especially the recent advances in deep learning and pre-trained language model. Specifically, we first introduce the background of Arabic NER, including the characteristics of Arabic and existing resources for Arabic NER. Then, we systematically review the development of Arabic NER methods. Traditional Arabic NER systems focus on feature engineering and designing domain-specific rules. In recent years, deep learning methods achieve significant progress by representing texts via continuous vector representations. With the growth of pre-trained language model, Arabic NER yields better performance. Finally, we conclude the method gap between Arabic NER and NER methods from other languages, which helps outline future directions for Arabic NER.Comment: Accepted by IEEE TKD

    A real time Named Entity Recognition system for Arabic text mining

    Arabic is the most widely spoken language in the Arab World. Most people of the Islamic World understand the Classic Arabic language because it is the language of the Qur'an. Despite the fact that in the last decade the number of Arabic Internet users (Middle East and North and East of Africa) has increased considerably, systems to analyze Arabic digital resources automatically are not as easily available as they are for English. Therefore, in this work, an attempt is made to build a real time Named Entity Recognition system that can be used in web applications to detect the appearance of specific named entities and events in news written in Arabic. Arabic is a highly inflectional language, thus we will try to minimize the impact of Arabic affixes on the quality of the pattern recognition model applied to identify named entities.     Arabic named entity recognition using deep learning approach

    Most of the Arabic Named Entity Recognition (NER) systems depend massively on external resources and handmade feature engineering to achieve state-of-the-art results. To overcome such limitations, we proposed, in this paper, to use deep learning approach to tackle the Arabic NER task. We introduced a neural network architecture based on bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Conditional Random Fields (CRF) and experimented with various commonly used hyperparameters to assess their effect on the overall performance of our system. Our model gets two sources of information about words as input: pre-trained word embeddings and character-based representations and eliminated the need for any task-specific knowledge or feature engineering. We obtained state-of-the-art result on the standard ANERcorp corpus with an F1 score of 90.6%
