Patients on ECMO are monitored 24/7 by a team of highly trained ECMO team comprising nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and perfusionists promptly intervening to any potential emergency situation. Simulation-Based Training (SBT) allows clinicians to experience and practice realistic hands-on procedures and scenarios without any risk. In ECMO, cannulation is a critical procedure performed to externally reroute the blood flow so it can be re-oxygenated by the ECMO machine before being recirculated through the patient's body. In a close collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), this project aims to develop a cost effective, realistic, and user-friendly ECMO simulator focusing on the venous and arterial cannulation procedure, The main features of this simulator include cannulation emergencies caused by low pressure flow, excessive force, recirculation, or mispositioned wire/cannula. Therefore, the ECMO cannulation simulator will not only greatly contribute to the initial and ongoing local training of HMC ECMO clinicians but also contribute to improving patient care by lowering the risks associated with the cannulation process

Bio floc aquaculture techniques are present as a solution to increase the productivity of fish farming. However, until now there are still problems, namely regarding the quality of the water from the pond. In this study, a monitoring tool was designed using an ESP32 microcontroller with the support of a BME280 sensor, RTD PT100 to measure water temperature and a turbidity sensor to measure floc volume. Furthermore, this sensor is planted on Wi-Fi to be able to connect to the internet network for IoT applications so that it can be monitored in real time. Likewise, the display results from the monitoring of the application system are directly read on the Google sheet display and in real time. From the test results of the system built, obtained the accuracy level of the BME280 sensor is 96.5%, PT100 RTD is 94.6% and for the turbidity sensor is 98%. Meanwhile the observed air temperature value can reach 34.36°C, the water temperature reaches 28.75°C, and the floc ratio reaches 30.15 mL.L-1. From the results shown, it clearly indicates that the water quality monitoring system has been successful and is working very well

Android Based Thesis Mentoring System Using Google Firebase

    Get PDF
This research aimed to build a platform to carry out the thesis mentoring process which was periodic, real-time, systemized, and well-integrated in Ciputra University in Surabaya. The researcher used Google Firebase technology provided by Google and built it on an Android-based platform. The method used was the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model. It was divided into six stages of the process: requirement analysis, system design, implementation, system testing, system deployment, and system maintenance. Data collection methods used were observation and interviews conducted to the final project coordinator in the study program. The results show that system has six main features including progress overview of thesis, chat room, guidance schedule, guidance book, important date, and announcement. Moreover, the thesis mentoring system is easy to use and consists of easyto-understand menus. After going through the process of analysis, this system is very helpful in scheduling guidance, monitoring the progress of student thesis work, and managing announcement and important date

Dissertação de Mestrado em Engenharia InformáticaIn Portugal eating out is a part of the lifestyle. People meet in coffee shops and restaurants, creating business opportunities for the owners of the places. In the summer season there are many bars that open their terrace service. Like many business, there are some ‘quiet times’ during the day – moments, when the place doesn’t receive so many clients. This project proposes an idea on how to maintain the efficiency of the outdoor service with possibly lower costs for the company. The application presented in the given project enables clients to make their requests directly from the table using a cellphone. In the next step the employee receives a notification with the request and he can prepare and deliver the order. Combining Proximity Communication Technologies and a web and mobile application, the communication between a client and an employee may turn out to be fast and comfortable. This solution can have an impact on the number of employees during a calmer time. It is also expected that the client will be able to receive his order in the faster way, through the implemented innovation

The aging phenomenon causes increased physiotherapy services requirements, with increased costs associated with long rehabilitation periods. Traditional rehabilitation methods rely on the subjective assessment of physiotherapists without supported training data. To overcome the shortcoming of traditional rehabilitation method and improve the efficiency of rehabilitation, AR (Augmented Reality) which represents a promissory technology that provides an immersive interaction with real and virtual objects is used. The AR devices may assure the capture body posture and scan the real environment that conducted to a growing number of AR applications focused on physical rehabilitation. In this MSc thesis, an AR platform used to materialize a physical rehabilitation plan for stroke patients is presented. Gait training is a significant part of physical rehabilitation for stroke patients. AR represents a promissory solution for training assessment providing information to the patients and physiotherapists about exercises to be done and the reached results. As part of MSc work an iOS application was developed in unity 3D platform. This application immersing patients in a mixed environment that combine real-world and virtual objects. The human computer interface is materialized by an iPhone as head-mounted 3D display and a set of wireless sensors for physiological and motion parameters measurement. The position and velocity of the patient are recorded by a smart carpet that includes capacitive sensors connected to a computation unit characterized by Wi-Fi communication capabilities.

Paper presented at the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things and IEEE Cyber, Physical and Social Computing and IEEE Smart Data, 21-23 June 2017, Exeter, UK.Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a high-complexity life-saving procedure where quick and coordinated interventions are required to avoid mortality. ECMO perfusionists and nurses must be well trained to respond to time-critical emergencies, using simulation-based education, which currently rely on rudimental ECMO simulation processes. Implementing a simulation system for such complex medical procedure necessitates a robust, well-coordinated underlying architecture. In this paper, the use of Internet of Things (IoT) service Firebase is presented in the case study of an ECMO simulator. Features of the proposed solution are discussed and justified in the given use case including latency, hardware compatibility, and data management. For the used case of ECMO simulation system, Firebase proved to be a proper communication solution that satisfied the urgent nature of medical training
