Quo vadis TAM?

The Technology Acceptance model (TAM) is one of the most influential theories in Information Systems. However, despite the model\u27s significant contributions, the intense focus on TAM has diverted researchers’ attention away from other important research issues and has created an illusion of progress in knowledge accumulation. Furthermore, the independent attempts by several researchers to expand TAM in order to adapt it to the constantly changing IT environments has lead to a state of theoretical chaos and confusion in which it is not clear which version of the many iterations of TAM is the commonly accepted one. The present commentary discusses these concerns, speculates on the possible contributions to the current state of affairs, and makes several suggestions to alleviate the problems associated with TAM and to advance IT adoption research to the next stage

Quo Vadis Peradilan Agama dalam Pengembangan Hukum Ekonomi Syariah di Indonesia

  Tulisan ini berupaya mengelaborasi pengembangan hukum ekonomi syariah di Indonesia. Pendekatan dekonstruksi digunakan dengan mendeskripsikan setiap tahapan pengembangan hukum ekonomi syariah dengan melihat aspek progresifitas dan stagnansi dalam upaya tersebut. Langkah progresif pengembangan tersebut melalui tiga tahap, yaitu: inisiatif, formatif, dan reformatif. Akan tetapi, peran peradilan agama berada pada posisi status quo, sehingga hal ini merupakan bentuk stagnansi dalam pengembangan tersebut. Penyebabnya adalah 1) adanya aturan lain yang mereduksi kewenangan absolut peradilan agama. Disahkannya Perma No. 14 Tahun 2016 tentang Tata Cara Penyelesaian Perkara Ekonomi Syariah, menyelesaikan persoalan tersebut; 2) moral hazard perbankan syariah dengan menjadikan sulhu sebagai solusi penyelesaian sengketa. Sekalipun dibenarkan oleh peraturan Perundang-undangan, upaya damai mengakibatkan tidak terungkapnya akar masalah dari suatu sengketa, sehingga tidak adanya keputusan hakim yang bisa dijadikan rujukan evaluative untuk pengembangan hukum ekonomi syariah di satu sisi, dan tindakan preventif agar masalah yang sama tidak terjadi terhadap nasabah atau perbankan syariah yang lain

QUO VADIS, EUROPE?

Autor raspravlja o budućnosti Europske unije na osnovi njezinih političkih deficita. Pritom se poziva na radove Habermasa i Derride koji nude optimističniju sliku. Vrlo je skeptičan prema kozmopolitskim rješenjima za Europsku uniju. U tom smislu razmatra se i prijedlog europskog ustava za koji se kaže da ne uspijeva odgovoriti na pitanje je li danas riječ o Europi kao državi. Uglavnom, Europska unija nema politički identitet nego je tvorevina njenih elita. Otud je ideja EU-a kao kozmopolisa pogrešna jer skriva ozbiljne probleme s kojima je ova tvorevina već sad suočena.The author investigates the future of European Union in the light of its political deficits, using as his starting point the works by Habermas and Derrida who offer a more optimistic view. The author is extremely skeptical of the cosmopolitan solutions for the European Union. He claims that the proposed European Constitution does not resolve the burning issue: is Europe now a state? The European Union to a large extent does not possess political identity but is a creation of its elites. Where Should Europe’s Investment Path Lead?: Reflections on August Reinisch, “Quo Vadis Europe?”

Relative to the past policies of its Member States, will the European Union’s new comprehensive international investment policy constitute a step forward, a step backward, or a perpetuation of the status quo? Professor Reinisch’s contribution to this volume opens a wide window on the current state of the debate. His cogent analysis suggests that, at present, all three possibilities remain live ones, although some basic contours of a likely trajectory are beginning to take shape. I use his musings as a springboard to investigate two questions which follow naturally from his. That is, in view of Professor Reinisch’s response to the question “where are you going, Europe?” I ask, first, where should European investment policy go next, and second, who should decide? These normative questions are pressing and require thoughtful answers developed through inter-institutional dialogue. If the new EU-wide investment policy is to succeed, their resolution must take precedence over the more mundane, technical matters that have consumed the bulk of scholarly attention so far

Genome-wide association studies in kidney diseases: Quo Vadis

A genome-wide association (GWA) study is a genetic epidemiology approach designed to scan genetic variation across the entire human genome in order to identify genetic associations with phenotypic traits as well as the presence or absence of a disease. Hundreds of thousands of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), the most common form of genetic variant, serve as markers. SNPs are assayed and related to diseases or health-related conditions applying bioinformatics algorithms. This has become feasible thanks to the recent technological improvements in the so-called high-throughput technologies. The analysis identifies regions (loci) with statistically significant differences in allele or genotype frequencies between cases and controls and so the variations are said to be ‘associated’ with the diseas
