Developing annotated bibliographies : a tool for education, collaboration and research development
The purpose of this paper is to present the process of developing an annotated bibliography as a tool for education and research. The authors of the paper will describe the process and demonstrate the findings from two recently completed bibliographies around pain in the older adult and pain in the terminal stages of palliative care. The benefits of this type of project will be discussed. Both bibliographies have been developed by a team of researchers within the University of Sheffield and are available for students to access as an educational tool. From the work collated within the bibliographies, the research team have been able to identify develop two research proposals that have been submitted for funding.University of Sheffiel
A Bibliography on the Application of GIS in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications to archaeological projects of different scales, chronological contexts and cultural milieux has accrued by now a long history and bibliography. Hopefully the phases of experimentation and almost blind testing are over, even if GIS applications are still sometimes being labeled as ânew technologiesâ
Bibliography of El Nino and associated publications
ENGLISH: Citations from the fields of biological, physical and chemical oceanography, meteorology and marine fisheries are used to compile a new bibliography on El Nino phenomena and associated publications. An alphanumeric coding procedure relating this bibliography to a newly microfilmed version of the contents of this bibliography is described.

"A Brilliant Mind": Margaret Egan and Social Epistemology
Margaret Egan (1905???59) taught at the Graduate Library School of the
University of Chicago (1946???55) and at the School of Library Science at
Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio (1955???59). With her colleague
Jesse Shera, Egan wrote ???Foundations of a Theory of Bibliography???
for Library Quarterly in 1952; this article marked the fi rst appearance of
the term ???social epistemology.??? After Egan???s death, Shera has often been
credited for the idea of social epistemology. However, there is ample evidence
to show that it was Egan who originated the concept???one that is
commonly viewed as fundamental to the theoretical foundations of library
and information science.published or submitted for publicatio
Telescope Bibliographies: an Essential Component of Archival Data Management and Operations
Assessing the impact of astronomical facilities rests upon an evaluation of
the scientific discoveries which their data have enabled. Telescope
bibliographies, which link data products with the literature, provide a way to
use bibliometrics as an impact measure for the underlying data. In this paper
we argue that the creation and maintenance of telescope bibliographies should
be considered an integral part of an observatory's operations. We review the
existing tools, services, and workflows which support these curation
activities, giving an estimate of the effort and expertise required to maintain
an archive-based telescope bibliography.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, to appear in SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and
