Contextual Analysis of Enterprise Mobile Services Requirements
This article presents a framework to classify various types of mobile services implemented in organizational settings. Based on the objectives of wireless information systems (WIS), we identify three categories viz. enterprise mobile services, enterprise-advantage mobile services, and consumer mobile services. While the last two categories of mobile services have received broader attention, there has not been much work done in analyzing the role of mobile services in the organizational settings specific to various industries. In this article, we attempt to fill this void by synthesizing the extant literature in this area. Based on the degree of user\u27s mobility in their organizational settings, we categorize enterprise mobile services in three subcategories. This categorization helps identijy differences in the information access needs of users. We then discuss how firms belonging to various industries can benefit from mobile services and various issues that need to be addressed before embracing such services. Finally this paper concludes with identification of potential research topics
Mobile Business Intelligence Usage Patterns
The generation of new mobile devices and the need to make decisions ‘on the move’ led to a new technology coined as mobile business intelligence (m-BI). M-BI is different from traditional BI in terms of user profiles, level of analytics and functionalities. Although there is a growing interest from both practitioners and academics, very little is known about m-BI in general and even less on its usage. A case study research is conducted to explore how m-BI usage patterns emerge and develop. M-BI is used to investigate after a trigger, monitor real-time data, control and support liminality. Users engage with usage patterns based on the their mode (lean back or lean forward) and attention scope (narrow or wide). However, usage patterns developed are not static because m-BI users engage continuously with different usage patterns when shifting among different modes and attention scopes
Factors affecting decision making effectiveness in Palestinian Banks
This study investigated the influence of information quality on decision-making effectiveness among Palestinian bank managers. Previous studies revealed the importance of information quality on decision-making effectiveness in different fields of management. Organisational structure was found to moderate information quality and decision-making effectiveness in different fields of management. However, the moderating effect of organisational structure on the relationship between information quality on decision-making effectiveness had not been addressed in the banking sector in Palestine. This cross-sectional quantitative study examined the relationship between information quality and decision-making effectiveness as being moderated by organisational structure. A total of 146 managers were surveyed in which they were required to respond to 55 items that elicited the three variables. Information quality was represented by six dimensions, organisational structure three dimensions, and decision-making effectiveness three dimensions. The data were analysed by SPSS and PLS-SEM software. The findings indicated the relevance and importance of information quality dimensions to decision-making effectiveness in the banking sector of Palestine. The result revealed four dimensions of information quality, namely, accuracy, completeness, relevancy and interpretability had a significant relationship with decision-making effectiveness. Two dimensions of organisational structure, namely, formality and centralisation, significantly moderated the relationship between information quality and decision-making effectiveness while complexity did not show a moderating effect. Overall, this study extends the understanding of the decision- making effectiveness. It contributes to building the model of the relationship between information quality and decision-making effectiveness in the banking industry. These findings will benefit bank managers in Palestine to understand the role of information quality better and utilise it towards developing sustainable banking services in Palestine
Paradoxos vivenciados pelo uso das tecnologias móveis no processo individual de tomada de decisão
O crescimento do uso das Tecnologias da Informação Móveis e Sem Fio (TIMS) nas organizações tem viabilizado cada vez mais o trabalho móvel, trazendo tanto benefícios quanto desafios aos processos de trabalho. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi compreender quais são os paradoxos vivenciados com o uso de TIMS na tomada de decisão individual em contexto de mobilidade. Foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa por meio de um grupo focal e entrevistas semiestruturadas, com um total de 26 participantes (executivos e gestores de nível intermediário) que tomam decisões nesse contexto. Os resultados corroboram paradoxos já identificados na literatura, e que se manifestam nos processos de tomada de decisão em contexto de mobilidade: Ocupado e Disponível, Planejamento e Improvisação, Engajamento e Desengajamento, Competência e Incompetência. Além disso, novos paradoxos foram identificados: Pessoal e Profissional, Maior Colaboração e Menos Face a Face, Decisões mais Ágeis e Decisões com Maior Exposição ao Erro
Quality of data model for supporting mobile decision making
This paper describes research towards implementation of a mobile decision support system. Our view is that the mobile decision maker will benefit if provided with a measure of the Quality of the Data (QoD) used in deriving a decision, and how QoD improves or deteriorates while he/she is on the move. We propose a QoD model taking into account static and dynamic properties of the mobile decision context, and use multicriteria decision analysis to represent decision model and derive a QoD measure. A prototype mobile decision support system has been developed to investigate the usefulness of the proposed QoD model
