Proactive Quality Guidance for Model Evolution in Model Libraries

    Get PDF
Model evolution in model libraries differs from general model evolution. It limits the scope to the manageable and allows to develop clear concepts, approaches, solutions, and methodologies. Looking at model quality in evolving model libraries, we focus on quality concerns related to reusability. In this paper, we put forward our proactive quality guidance approach for model evolution in model libraries. It uses an editing-time assessment linked to a lightweight quality model, corresponding metrics, and simplified reviews. All of which help to guide model evolution by means of quality gates fostering model reusability.Comment: 10 pages, figures. Blockchain-backed analytics. Adding blockchain-based quality gates to data science projects

[EN] A typical analytical lifecycle in data science projects starts with the process of data generation and collection, continues with data preparation and preprocessing and heads towards project specific analytics, visualizations and presentations. In order to ensure high quality trusted analytics, every relevant step of the data-model-result linkage needs to meet certain quality standards that furthermore should be certified by trusted quality gate mechanisms. We propose “blockchain-backed analytics”, a scalable and easy-to-use generic approach to introduce quality gates to data science projects, backed by the immutable records of a blockchain. For that reason, data, models and results are stored as cryptographically hashed fingerprints with mutually linked transactions in a public blockchain database. This approach enables stakeholders of data science projects to track and trace the linkage of data, applied models and modeling results without the need of trust validation of escrow systems or any other third party.Herrmann, M.; Petzold, J.; Bombatkar, V. Simulation-based digital twin for the manufacturing of thermoplastic composites

    Get PDF
The bond strength between a thermoformed fibre reinforced thermoplastic sheet and an injected polymer is the limiting factor for the structural integrity of overmoulded thermoplastic composites. In this contribution, a simulation based digital twin of the thermoforming process is presented. From numerical parametric studies a reduced order model based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is developed. The combination with machine learning methods enables the real-time computation of arbitrary physical reliable temperature fields with sufficient accuracy to be used for design purposes and as inline quality gates

A methodology based on quality gates for certifiable AI in medicine: towards a reliable application of metrics in machine learning

    Get PDF
As of now, intelligent technologies experience a rapid growth. For a reliable adoption of those new and powerful systems into day-to-day life, especially with respect to high-risk settings such as medicine, technical means to realize legal requirements correctly, are indispensible. Our proposed methodology comprises an approach to translate such partly more abstract concepts into concrete instructions - it is based on Quality Gates along the intelligent system’s complete life cycle, which are composed of use-case adapted Criteria that need to be addressed with respect to certification. Also, the underlying philosophy regarding stakeholder inclusion, domain embedding and risk analysis is illustrated. In the present paper, the Quality Gate Metrics is outlined for the application of machine learning performance metrics focused on binary classification

Keck Interferometer Nuller Data Reduction and On-Sky Performance

    Get PDF
We describe the Keck Interferometer nuller theory of operation, data reduction, and on-sky performance, particularly as it applies to the nuller exozodiacal dust key science program that was carried out between 2008 February and 2009 January. We review the nuller implementation, including the detailed phasor processing involved in implementing the null-peak mode used for science data and the sequencing used for science observing. We then describe the Level 1 reduction to convert the instrument telemetry streams to raw null leakages, and the Level 2 reduction to provide calibrated null leakages. The Level 1 reduction uses conservative, primarily linear processing, implemented consistently for science and calibrator stars. The Level 2 processing is more flexible, and uses diameters for the calibrator stars measured contemporaneously with the interferometer’s K-band cophasing system in order to provide the requisite accuracy. Using the key science data set of 462 total scans, we assess the instrument performance for sensitivity and systematic error. At 2.0 Jy we achieve a photometrically-limited null leakage uncertainty of 0.25% rms per 10 minutes of integration time in our broadband channel. From analysis of the Level 2 reductions, we estimate a systematic noise floor for bright stars of ~0.2% rms null leakage uncertainty per observing cluster in the broadband channel. A similar analysis is performed for the narrowband channels. We also provide additional information needed for science reduction, including details on the instrument beam pattern and the basic astrophysical response of the system, and references to the data reduction and modeling tools

Towards the development of a methodology for managing industrialization projects

    Get PDF
This paper proposes an approach for developing a project management methodology to be applied on the specific context of industrialization projects. This particular type of projects comprise the development of manufacturing lines for products, the quality of the product itself being assessed the whole way through using the well-known stage-gate system (quality gates). Project management should then support the technical activities, but its role is sometimes not so clear. In this sense, the proposed approach for developing the project management methodology is intended to solve this issue, comprising the required steps for performing a detailed characterization of the current scenario, allowing for inconsistences to be noticed and improvements to be identified. This research is sponsored by the Portugal Incentive System for Research and Technological Development. Process tomography of ion trap quantum gates

    Get PDF
A crucial building block for quantum information processing with trapped ions is a controlled-NOT quantum gate. In this paper, two different sequences of laser pulses implementing such a gate operation are analyzed using quantum process tomography. Fidelities of up to 92.6(6)% are achieved for single gate operations and up to 83.4(8)% for two concatenated gate operations. By process tomography we assess the performance of the gates for different experimental realizations and demonstrate the advantage of amplitude--shaped laser pulses over simple square pulses. We also investigate whether the performance of concatenated gates can be inferred from the analysis of the single gates
