Thesis(Master) -- KDI School: Master of Public Management, 2021In the 4.0 Industrial Revolution era, ICT plays a very important role in the national economy, and governments in each country are investing huge budgets to promote "digital transformation" to expand and spread ICT infrastructure. Korea is no exceptional. In July 2020, the "Digital New Deal" was declared, preparing for digital transformation and transformation into a ‘contactless economy’. Then, how do we perceive changes in life through ICT utilization that enables such digital? To confirm this, the effects of producer (STUDY 1) and customer (STUDY 2) side among the three main economic entities, the government, households, and companies, were analyzed. In other words, in order to understand the perception of ICT utilization of both employees (production) and customers (consumption), 272 respondents participated this research survey. And five independent variables and two dependent variables were used, a total of 12 hypothesis tests were conducted for each study. Like most previous studies, ICT utilization had a positive effect on employee satisfaction and organizational performance in the side of production, and positively influenced consumer satisfaction and purchase decision-making from the customer perspective. However, the ‘efficiency’ variable through ICT utilization was rejected in each study, it is presumed that the attributes of ICT, which is connected without restrictions on time and space, hinder the ‘efficiency’ of people in their 20s and 30s, who account for 71% of this research survey.I. "Smartphones" have become a necessity in society. Although mobile devices have many benefits, there are also some negative effects on the contrary. This study investigates the impacts of compulsive use, problematic and dependent on "smartphones". In addition, the relationship between compulsory use of "smartphones" and "burnout", such as recovery experiences as a moderating potential of this relationship is analyzed. For this purpose, a sample of 141 working individuals, aged between 20 and 63 years (M @ 30; SD = 10.4) was collected, 46.1% male and 53.9% female, with respondents to a questionnaire participated in this study. The results obtained confirmed that the use of "smartphones" in a compulsive, problematic and dependent way have a significant and amplifying effect on "burnout", with abusive users of the "smartphone" reporting more symptoms of "burnout". Moreover, it has been found that abusive use of smartphones may limit and inhibit the process of retrieving the job requirements. However, recovery experiences as a moderator of the relationship between compulsive, problematic and dependent on "smartphone" use and "burnout" have not been corroborated. These conclusions contribute to a better understanding of the impact of the "smartphone" on the well-being of the workers.

Drawing on a resource perspective, this thesis scrutinizes the role of digital technologies regarding employee intrapreneurial and innovative behavior. This is done by conducting four independent empirical studies which examine how digital technologies foster and inhibit employee intrapreneurial and innovative behavior. The first study investigates employee-perceived information technology support for innovation, work overload, and invasion of privacy as mediators of the relationship between digital affordances and employee corporate entrepreneurship participation likelihood. The second study examines the relationship between digital technology support and employee intrapreneurial behavior and how this relationship is moderated by management support for innovation and intrapreneurial self-efficacy. Analyzing employee techno-work engagement and employee-perceived techno-strain as mediators, the third study investigates the relationships of employee-perceived digital technology usefulness and complexity with employee innovative performance. Finally, the fourth study examines the indirect effects of perceived daily techno-support and techno-stressors on daily employee innovative behavior through daily high-activated moods. Findings revealed digital affordances to foster employee corporate entrepreneurship participation likelihood through employee-perceived information technology support for innovation and reduced work overload perceptions. Support by different digital technologies was also found to promote employee intrapreneurial behavior, but its relative impact varied with different levels of management support for innovation and intrapreneurial self-efficacy. Moreover, employee-perceived digital technology usefulness fostered employee innovative performance through employee techno-work engagement, while employee-perceived digital technology complexity had negative sequential indirect effects through employee-perceived digital technology usefulness and employee-perceived techno-strain on the one hand and employee techno-work engagement on the other hand. Perceived daily techno-support had a beneficial effect through daily high-activated positive mood. Perceived daily techno-stressors fostered daily employee innovative behavior through daily high-activated negative mood but inhibited that behavior through daily high-activated positive mood. Thus, findings indicate that by offering potentials for both resource gains and losses, digital technologies might be a double-edged sword for employee intrapreneurial and innovative behavior. Hence, with this, the thesis advances the research on employee intrapreneurial and innovative behavior as well as the digital entrepreneurship and innovation literature

The aim of this dissertation is, firstly, to verify the link between the predisposition of individuals towards new information and communication technologies (NICTs) and their level of psychological well-being. It then seeks to verify whether this link varies when individuals belong to different generations. Finally, it assesses whether gender and type of employment influence the link between the relationship to NICTs and the level of psychological well-being. The study was carried out among 1034 panelists of the Observer. The results of this study show that there is a link between specific dimensions of individuals' relationship to NICTs and the level of psychological well-being. Moreover, this relation is sometimes moderate depending on the generation to which the individuals belong. Furthermore, our results show no connection between gender or sector of activity and the level of psychological well-being. However, the higher an individual's level of education, the higher his or her level of psychological well-being. Part-time employment is also associated with a decrease in the level of psychological well-being among individuals belonging to certain generations

Teaching and learning post-compulsory education in the West Midlands: implications for the pedagogy of e-learning materials

    Get PDF
The impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on the quality of teaching and learning in schools has been the subject of many studies in recent years. Although these objective studies have reported on the classroom effectiveness of ICT use, there have been limited studies of the underpinning pedagogy. In contrast, the use of ICT in post-compulsory education, particularly further education (FE) colleges has not been researched to a significant extent, either in terms of its effectiveness or the underpinning pedagogy. FE is a diverse, under researched sector in the UK and is heavily influenced by economic changes, new technologies, competing interest groups and by government policies, institutions, professionals, tutors and learners. The complexity and diversity of this sector present a serious challenge to fully embed e-learning skills and practices in FE colleges. When the research project was about to start, there had not been a study focusing on e-learning materials in the past. This is an important area which requires investigation because if we understand the pedagogy of e-learning materials and how they can be used effectively, then this will improve learning and provide information to help design better materials. The aim of this research is to investigate the application of e-learning materials to teaching and learning in post-compulsory education in the West Midlands. The research seeks to explore the implications for the pedagogy of e-learning materials and wishes to determine whether the application of ICT and e-learning materials to teaching and learning has been fully implemented by the selected FE colleges. Methodological triangulation is used for the research, a combination of survey in the form of semi-structured interviews and case studies, which used questionnaires and semi-structured non-participant observations. The main findings of the research are: the e-learning materials were mainly used as support and supplementary to the traditional teaching and learning methods; the prevalence of e-learning materials used depended largely on the courses and the individual tutors; the most commonly used modes of delivery of e-learning materials were application software, VLE, CDROMs, Intranet, Internet and videos; the e-learning materials were considered to be effective learning tools, enhance learning and help learners with different learning styles. Despite many positive results in most areas of investigation, the researcher finds that the application of ICT and elearning materials to teaching and learning (with a special reference to e-learning skills and practices) has not been fully taken up by tutors and learners in FE colleges

The haunted university: academic subjectivity in the time of communicative capitalism

In the last thirty years there have been significant changes in the governmentality and culture of higher education in the UK; concurrently, day-to-day practice has been transformed by networked computers. This political and technical double-act may be understood as a specific articulation of what Jodi Dean has termed communicative capitalism (2010, p.2-9). This thesis investigates how such political and technocultural changes condition the subjectivity of academic staff across a range of academic activities and contexts. The theoretical model I develop draws notably on a combination of the psychoanalytic theory of Freud and Lacan, using Freud’s conception of the ‘uncanny’ (1919) and Althusser’s theory of ideology (1970), to consider how the academic subject of technoculture is constituted by the particular domain of communicative capitalism I term the Haunted University. To develop this argument the thesis firstly establishes the ‘nature’ of the contemporary university – distinguishing it from earlier models and earlier moments of reform. This is developed using cultural history sources and theoretical work from social, cultural and critical higher education studies. Secondly, I use a series of cultural studies methods to identify and explore elements of the new university formation. These include the selection and analysis of relevant digital materials (e.g. academic homepages and blogs) and small qualitative surveys of academic staff. Thirdly, the broadly Lacanian thrust of my argument is developed through leveraging theoretical work from the fields of cultural studies, philosophy, critical labour studies and higher education policy. I conclude that the series of developments and changes enacted by communicative capitalism has tended to transform academic subjectivity, bringing about what may be a permanent change in the ontology and epistemology of the academy. However, despite neoliberalism’s attempt to foreclose discursive dissent, there are resistances to its project. My original contribution to knowledge is to theorise how and why the shift in academic subjectivity is being enacted, demonstrating how the technocultural, neoliberal university is beginning to haunt the academy not only from the outside, but from the inside, too
