Microprocessor control of a wind turbine generator
A microprocessor based system was used to control the unattended operation of a wind turbine generator. The turbine and its microcomputer system are fully described with special emphasis on the wide variety of tasks performed by the microprocessor for the safe and efficient operation of the turbine. The flexibility, cost and reliability of the microprocessor were major factors in its selection

Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering at the K Edge of Ge
We study the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the edge of
Ge. We measure RIXS spectra with systematically varying momenta in the final
state. The spectra are a measure of exciting an electron-hole pair. We find a
single peak structure (except the elastic peak) as a function of photon energy,
which is nearly independent of final-state momenta. We analyze the experimental
data by means of the band structure calculation. The calculation reproduces
well the experimental shape, clarifying the implication of the spectral shape.Comment: 17 pages,9 figures, Please also see our related paper:

Quadratic estimation for stochastic systems in the presence of random parameter matrices, time-correlated additive noise and deception attacks
This research was suported by the ``Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Agencia Estatal de Investigación'' of Spain and the European Regional Development Fund [grant number PID2021-124486NB-I00].Networked systems usually face different random uncertainties that make the performance of the least-squares (LS) linear filter decline significantly. For this reason, great attention has been paid to the search for other kinds of suboptimal estimators. Among them, the LS quadratic estimation approach has attracted considerable interest in the scientific community for its balance between computational complexity and estimation accuracy. When it comes to stochastic systems subject to different random uncertainties and deception attacks, the quadratic estimator design has not been deeply studied. In this paper, using covariance information, the LS quadratic filtering and fixed-point smoothing problems are addressed under the assumption that the measurements are perturbed by a time-correlated additive noise, as well as affected by random parameter matrices and exposed to random deception attacks. The use of random parameter matrices covers a wide range of common uncertainties and random failures, thus better reflecting the engineering reality. The signal and observation vectors are augmented by stacking the original vectors with their second-order Kronecker powers; then, the linear estimator of the original signal based on the augmented observations provides the required quadratic estimator. A simulation example illustrates the superiority of the proposed quadratic estimators over the conventional linear ones and the effect of the deception attacks on the estimation performance.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación

Cosigners as Collateral
We investigate the role of cosigners as collateral using data from a South Indian financial institution. Using an exogenous change in the cosigner requirement, we establish a negative causal effect of cosigners on defaults: an increase in the number of cosigners reduces defaults all these equal. Our results suggest that a one-sixth increase in the number of cosigners reduces the incidence of a default by 7.5 percent. While most theories of collateral predict that increased cosigners will reduce defaults, we are first to find empirical evidence of this effect.credit, default, cosigner, rosca
Sialons as high temperature insulators
Sialons were evaluated for application as high temperature electrical insulators in contact with molybdenum and tungsten components in hard vacuum applications. Both D.C. and variable frequency A.C. resistivity data indicate the sialons to have electrical resistivity similar to common oxide in the 1000 C or higher range. Metallographic evaluations indicate good bonding of the type 15R ALN polytype to molybdenum and tungsten. The beta prime or modified silicon nitride phase was unacceptable in terms of vacuum stability. Additives effect on electrical resistivity. Similar resistivity decreases were produced by additions of molybdenum or tungsten to form cermets. The use of hot pressing at 1800 C with ALN, Al2 O3 and Si3N4 starting powders produced a better product than did a combination of SiO2 and AIN staring powders. It was indicated that sialons will be suitable insulators in the 1600K range in contact with molybdenum or tungsten if they are produced as a pure ceramic and subsequently bonded to the metal components at temperatures in the 1600K range
