    Economic Systems as Constructively Rational Games: Oh, the Places We Could Go!

    The first part of this presentation provides a brief but careful overview of agent-based computational economics (ACE), the computational modeling of economic processes (including whole economies) as open-ended dynamic systems of interacting agents. The potential applicability of ACE modeling for the study of economic systems is illustrated by means of an ACE macroeconomic study. Several key methodological issues are next highlighted: namely, empirical validation; standardized measures of model development; and standardized presentation protocols. The final part of the presentation considers how ACE modeling tools could be used to undertake edgier creative explorations of issues critical for the operation of real-world economic systems

    Forman's Ricci curvature - From networks to hypernetworks

    Networks and their higher order generalizations, such as hypernetworks or multiplex networks are ever more popular models in the applied sciences. However, methods developed for the study of their structural properties go little beyond the common name and the heavy reliance of combinatorial tools. We show that, in fact, a geometric unifying approach is possible, by viewing them as polyhedral complexes endowed with a simple, yet, the powerful notion of curvature - the Forman Ricci curvature. We systematically explore some aspects related to the modeling of weighted and directed hypernetworks and present expressive and natural choices involved in their definitions. A benefit of this approach is a simple method of structure-preserving embedding of hypernetworks in Euclidean N-space. Furthermore, we introduce a simple and efficient manner of computing the well established Ollivier-Ricci curvature of a hypernetwork.Comment: to appear: Complex Networks '18 (oral presentation

    Extracting Space Weather Information from Research Models: Opportunities and Challenges

    In addition to supporting space research in the international community, the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) has as its second objective to apply the power of modern research models toward space weather specification and forecasting. Motivated by the objectives to test models and to ease the transition of research models to space weather forecasting organizations, the CCMC has developed a number of real-time modeling systems, as well as a large number of modeling and data products for space weather forecasting support. Over time, these activities have produced tailored products for partners, as well as tools, which address the space weather needs of NASA's robotic mission community. All tools are accessible via a configurable, flexible interface. During this process, CCMC has accumulated substantial experience in understanding model performance, as well as in the design and execution of realtime systems. This presentation will focus on lessons learned and it will suggest low hanging fruit for transition to operations at partner agencies

    In this article, solutions in the field of synchronous technology of the computer-aided design of complex systems on the example of the integral structure are discussed. The main attention is paid to the methods of conceptual and functional and logical design using the tools of visual presentation. The data transfer problem between the levels of design models have been analyzed. To synchronize design models at the system level, a hexagonal conceptual model is proposed for the visual presentation of information about the integrated structures and the VI-XML language – for the implementation of the synchronous modeling environment
