Tweeting your Destiny: Profiling Users in the Twitter Landscape around an Online Game
Social media has become a major communication channel for communities
centered around video games. Consequently, social media offers a rich data
source to study online communities and the discussions evolving around games.
Towards this end, we explore a large-scale dataset consisting of over 1 million
tweets related to the online multiplayer shooter Destiny and spanning a time
period of about 14 months using unsupervised clustering and topic modelling.
Furthermore, we correlate Twitter activity of over 3,000 players with their
playtime. Our results contribute to the understanding of online player
communities by identifying distinct player groups with respect to their Twitter
characteristics, describing subgroups within the Destiny community, and

This study found that 29% of the most viral content on Twitter during the Boston bombing crisis were rumors and fake content.AbstractOnline social media has emerged as one of the prominent channels for dissemination of information during real world events. Malicious content is posted online during events, which can result in damage, chaos and monetary losses in the real world. We analyzed one such media i.e. Twitter, for content generated during the event of Boston Marathon Blasts, that occurred on April, 15th, 2013. A lot of fake content and malicious profiles originated on Twitter network during this event. The aim of this work is to perform in-depth characterization of what factors influenced in malicious content and profiles becoming viral. Our results showed that 29% of the most viral content on Twitter, during the Boston crisis were rumors and fake content; while 51% was generic opinions and comments; and rest was true information. We found that large number of users with high social reputation and verified accounts were responsible for spreading the fake content. Next, we used regression prediction model, to verify that, overall impact of all users who propagate the fake content at a given time, can be used to estimate the growth of that content in future. Many malicious accounts were created on Twitter during the Boston event, that were later suspended by Twitter. We identified over six thousand such user profiles, we observed that the creation of such profiles surged considerably right after the blasts occurred. Internet addiction in adolescents: prevalence and risk factors
As new media are becoming daily fare, Internet addiction appears as a potential problem in adolescents. From the reported negative consequences, it appears that Internet addiction can have a variety of detrimental outcomes for young people that may require professional intervention. Researchers have now identified a number of activities and personality traits associated with Internet addiction. This study aimed to synthesise previous findings by (i) assessing the prevalence of potential Internet addiction in a large sample of adolescents, and (ii) investigating the interactions between personality traits and the usage of particular Internet applications as risk factors for Internet addiction. A total of 3,105 adolescents in the Netherlands filled out a self-report questionnaire including the Compulsive Internet Use Scale and the Quick Big Five Scale. Results indicate that 3.7% of the sample were classified as potentially being addicted to the Internet. The use of online gaming and social applications (online social networking sites and Twitter) increased the 2 risk for Internet addiction, whereas extraversion and conscientiousness appeared as protective factors in high frequency online gamers. The findings support the inclusion of 'Internet addiction' in the DSM-V. Vulnerability and resilience appear as significant aspects that require consideration in further studies

The Lifecycles of Apps in a Social Ecosystem
Apps are emerging as an important form of on-line content, and they combine
aspects of Web usage in interesting ways --- they exhibit a rich temporal
structure of user adoption and long-term engagement, and they exist in a
broader social ecosystem that helps drive these patterns of adoption and
engagement. It has been difficult, however, to study apps in their natural
setting since this requires a simultaneous analysis of a large set of popular
apps and the underlying social network they inhabit.
In this work we address this challenge through an analysis of the collection
of apps on Facebook Login, developing a novel framework for analyzing both
temporal and social properties. At the temporal level, we develop a retention
model that represents a user's tendency to return to an app using a very small
parameter set. At the social level, we organize the space of apps along two
fundamental axes --- popularity and sociality --- and we show how a user's
probability of adopting an app depends both on properties of the local network
structure and on the match between the user's attributes, his or her friends'
attributes, and the dominant attributes within the app's user population. We
also develop models that show the importance of different feature sets with

A systematic study on predicting depression using text analytics
Social Networking Sites (SNS) provides online communication among groups but somehow it is affecting the status of mental health. For adolescents with limited social media friends and using internet for communication purposes predicted less depression, whereas non-communication desire reveals more depression and anxiety disorder. Social media posts and comments provide a rich source of text data for academic research. In this paper, we have discussed various text analytical approaches to predict depression among users through the sharing of online ideas over such websites. This paper presents a comprehensive review for predicting depression disorder by various text analytics approaches. This paper also presents the summary of results obtained by some researchers available in literature to predict MajorDepressive Disorder (MDD).
