Trauma Informed Community Building Evaluation: A Formative Evaluation of the TICB Model and its Implementation in Potrero Hill

This formative evaluation of the TICB model and its implementation in the PTA public housing community was conducted between September 2014 and July 2015 by an evaluation team from the HOPE SF Learning Center. This evaluation was designed to support the further development of the TICB model as well as inform efforts to implement the model in Potrero Terrace and Annex and other communities. This evaluation seeks to examine the implementation and impact of the TICB model at PTA in order to: * Understand the impact of ongoing TICB-informed programming through analysis of outputs and outcomes prioritized by stakeholder partners [see Appendix A]. * Identify facilitators and barriers to implementation of the TICB model in community-building work within PTA and the surrounding Potrero Hill neighborhood. * Inform BRIDGE Housing's work to improve programming, and guide future program priorities and structures. * Generate information to better understand the impact of the financial investment in helping to build community with and between public housing residents and residents of the surrounding neighborhood. * Assess implications for replicability/reproducibility at other public housing communities, including the additional HOPE SF sites, and beyond

Seasonal variation in the diet of Lontra longicaudis in the Paraná River basin, Argentina

We studied the Neotropical otter ( Lontra longicaudis ) seasonal diet variations in the middle Paran á River valley, in central-northern Argentina, at the southern limit of its global range. We recorded 745 prey items in 320 scats collected over the course of 1 year in a tributary stream of the Paran á River. Fish, crustaceans, mammals, and insects were the most important items in frequency of occurrence among items. Other items, like mollusks, birds, amphibians, and reptilians were presented in low frequency in all seasons. We recorded seasonal variation in the frequency of the principal categories items: fish, mammals, crustaceans, and insects and in reptilian that had low frequency. Although fish were the most common items consumed by the otter, other groups such as crustaceans, mammals, and insects, were also important in the diet of the Neotropical otter throughout the seasons. Mammals and insects showed a higher frequency in the Neotropical otter diet in our study than in Brazil, Mexico, and even northern Argentina. We noted a marked variation throughout the Neotropical region in the niche breadth indices among studies of Neotropical otter ’ s diet. Exploring the Role of Pharmacists in Management of Hypertension in a Safety Net Clinic

Potrero Hill Health Center through the San Francisco Department of Public Health aims to deliver health promotion, disease prevention, heath maintenance, counseling, and health education of acute and chronic diseases. Hypertension is a common problem to both the health center and to the general population, and Potrero Hill Health Center aims to understand and develop a program that will aid in hypertension management at their local clinic. A supplemental pharmacist service was implemented at Potrero Hill Health Center to help manage hypertensive patients. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels were compared in patients receiving pharmacist counseling versus those receiving physician services only. Preliminary findings demonstrated that when compared to treatment as usual, those receiving supplemental pharmacist services had better hypertension control with significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic levels. Pharmacist counseling in community health clinics may have a beneficial public health impact in controlling hypertension, thus reducing potential complications of hypertension such as cardiovascular disease in low-income, minority populations

Lineaments in basement terrane of the Peninsular Ranges, Southern California

The author has identified the following significant results. ERTS and Skylab images reveal a number of prominent lineaments in the basement terrane of the Peninsular Ranges, Southern California. The major, well-known, active, northwest trending, right-slip faults are well displayed; northeast and west to west-northwest trending lineaments are also present. Study of large-scale airphotos followed by field investigations have shown that several of these lineaments represent previously unmapped faults. Pitches of striations on shear surfaces of the northeast and west trending faults indicate oblique slip movement; data are insufficient to determine the net-slip. These faults are restricted to the pre-tertiary basement terrane and are truncated by the major northwest trending faults. They may have been formed in response to an earlier stress system. All lineaments observed in the space photography are not due to faulting, and additional detailed geologic investigations are required to determine the nature of the unstudied lineaments, and the history and net-slip of fault-controlled lineaments

Utilització d’instruments basats en la plataforma Arduino al CFGS Eficiència i Energia Solar Tèrmica

El següent treball és una proposta per implementar la plataforma Arduino al cicle formatiu de grau superior d’eficiència energètica i energia solar tèrmica, posant ènfasi en el seu mòdul professional Eficiència energètica d’instal·lacions, on s’estudiarà com encabir aquesta tecnologia en la seva programació anual de forma pràctica seguint metodologia PBL. Aquest exercici ens servirà també per fer una reflexió sobre l’ús de tecnologies de programari lliure, del moment de maduresa amb el què arriben els estudiants al cicles formatius de grau superior en qüestions de coneixement de programació i programari open source i per valorar la possibilitat del canvi de metodologia o de suport didàctic que s’utilitza actualment al cicle formatiu. Per arribar a aquestes conclusions se seguirà una estructura d’anàlisi que ja ve marcada a l’índex. Un cop establerts els antecedents i marcats els objectius es passarà a fer un petit estudi i anàlisi tant a nivell estructural de cicle i mòdul com a nivell dels coneixements previs dels estudiants i les seves preferències en diversos aspectes que incideixen directament en la seva formació. És en aquest punt on s’analitza la enquesta per rebre el feedback dels coneixements previs dels alumnes que han de marcar el punt de partida de les activitats (no seria igual el projecte amb unes respostes que confirmessin que els estudiants són familiars amb la plataforma Arduino i la programació com el cas contrari). Un cop contextualitzat el projecte als agents implicats es proposa la implementació en la programació d’una eina de medició que ha de servir de fil conductor per portar a la pràctica tota aquesta teoria; un controlador elèctric que és capaç de monitoritzar fins a cuatre elements de forma simultània i que està dissenyat tant per l’aprenentatge pràctic dels alumnes com per una posterior utilització professional, anant un pas més enllà i afegint la competència de l’ús d’aquesta tecnologia en un entorn professional inmediat. Per portar a terme aquesta formació s’ha dissenyat d’igual forma un simulador que farà les funcions d’instal·lacions tipus i un seguit d’activitats basats en metodologia PBL, per mirar d’aportar els coneixements necessaris per fer servir la plataforma Arduino en l’àmbit de l’eficiència energètica i per optimitzar l’aprenentatge d’aquesta eina. Tanmateix es farà servir un panell RLC modulable per fer les medicions en corrent alterna dels diferents elements elèctrics que l’integren fent servir el mateix controlador. Finalment, a falta de poder contrastar els recursos que s’ofereixen amb els alumnes del centre, es faran un seguit de reflexions sobre el procés d’elaboració del projecte i les conclusions sobre el mateix

A New Genus and Two New Species of Unarmed Hymenolepidid Cestodes (Cestoda: Hymenolepididae) from Geomyid Rodents in Mexico and Costa Rica

Two new cestodes of the family Hymenolepididae are described from two species of rodents of the family Geomyidae collected in Mexico and Costa Rica. One new species of Hymenolepis is described from Cratogeomys planiceps Merriam 1895 from near Toluca, Mexico and another that we allocate to a new genus is described from Heterogeomys heterodus (Peters, 1865) from near Irazú Volcano, Costa Rica. Hymenolepis s. str. includes those Hymenolepididae with an apical organ, with no hooks on suckers or apical organ, and three testes. Hobergia irazuensis n. gen., n. sp. includes a hymenolepidid with an apical organ, unarmed scolex, small pockets termed foveolae, in which the suckers completely retract, and extremely bi-lobed ovary. Multivariate morphometric analysis showed good separation of these species from all other hymenolepidids possessing an apical organ and lacking a well developed rostellum and rostellar hooks in the Nearctic and Neotropical regions

Cambios en elrango de distribución dePotentilla tucumanensis (Rosaceae), una especie críptica en peligro de extinción

Una correcta identificación taxonómica es esencial para la preservación de la biodiversidad. En este trabajo se presentan caracteres morfológicos sencillos para diferenciar la nueva especip, Potentilla tucumanensis recientemente descripta. Esta especie, cuyo período reproductivo ocupa el 10% final de su ciclo de vida, es considerada críptica debido a que puede ser confundida por su similitud en estado vegetativo, con especies con las cuales cohabita y está aislada reproductivamente. Además, se muestra que en los últimos cien años, P. tucumanensis ha sufrido una dramática retracción de su hábitat: desde 1900 a 1925 se encontraron ejemplares de esta planta distribuidos en diferentes ambientes ecológicos de la reglón del noroeste argentino, mientras que en la actualidad, esta especie es raramente encontrada y siempre confinada a un sólo tipo de hábitat. Se discuten las posibles causas de este proceso de retracción. Si P. tucumanensis no hubiese sido reconocida como una especie nueva, probablemente hubiese desaparecido sin dejar rastro de su existencia.: A correct taxonomic identification is essential for the preservation of biodiversity. In this paper we present simple morphological characters for the identification of the new species recently described, Potentilla tucumanensis. The reproductive period of this species occupies about 10% of the last part of its lifecycle, is considered cryptic because in the vegetative stage it has many morphological similarities with other cohabiting related species; it can be easily confused with them and it is reproductively isolated. Our study also revealed that for the last hundred years P. tucumanensis has suffered a dramatic habitat retraction. Possible causes of this area retraction are discussed.
