    The motivation behind the NetIQ Evaluation Project stems from the fact that Regis University does not currently utilize network management software across the various campus networks. Although this “state of the network” in and of itself is reason alone for such a project, other factors such as an overall increase in the student populous, an increase in the demand for on-line education, and a general need for a secure, reliable and efficient network that spans multiple Regis University campuses has helped fuel project initiative. The NetIQ Evaluation Project’s overall goal is to evaluate the network management software suite known as NetIQ AppManager. This evaluation will provide Regis University policy makers with unbiased information in terms of selecting a network management software suite

    Quality of service control in IP networks using Fuzzy Logic for policy condition evaluation

    This paper presents the architecture of a policy- based network management system designed specifically for Quality of Service management, where high level business policies are modeled as ECA (Event-Condition-Action) rules. Specifically, the system is mainly based on the policy architecture being proposed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force), and TMF (TeleManagement Forum) standardization bodies. This work proposes a novel approach for policy condition evaluation using fuzzy logic. The fuzzy controller has the ability to examine policy conditions differently from default condition analyzers that employ simple conditions formed by a set of (IFs, ANDs and ORs), allowing the consideration and correlation of several input variables before taking decisions for the execution of policy actions. The system have been implemented and evaluated over a test bed network formed by Cisco® routers

    Synergistic policy and virtual machine consolidation in cloud data centers

    In modern Cloud Data Centers (DC)s, correct implementation of network policies is crucial to provide secure, efficient and high performance services for tenants. It is reported that the inefficient management of network policies accounts for 78% of DC downtime, challenged by the dynamically changing network characteristics and by the effects of dynamic Virtual Machine (VM) consolidation. While there has been significant research in policy and VM management, they have so far been treated as disjoint research problems. In this paper, we explore the simultaneous, dynamic VM and policy consolidation, and formulate the Policy-VM Consolidation (PVC) problem, which is shown to be NP-Hard. We then propose Sync, an efficient and synergistic scheme to jointly consolidate network policies and virtual machines. Extensive evaluation results and a testbed implementation of our controller show that policy and VM migration under Sync significantly reduces flow end-to-end delay by nearly 40%, and network-wide communication cost by 50% within few seconds, while adhering strictly to the requirements of network policies

    A model for the management risks related to the implementation of insurance policies

    Introduction: The aim of present study was to provide a model for evaluating the insurance policies of the Social Security Organization with a network governance approach. Methods: Through a mixed method study in Tehran and Golestan provinces, in first stage 35 people were selected among the experts and university professors and in second stage, 217 managers of insurance and health were included in the study. To achieve the optimal model four factors of network design, network formation, network health management and health network participation were identified and based on administrative, judicial and political evaluation, 18 questions were considered for each indicator. The data were analyzed through SPSS and LISREL software by exploratory factor analysis and path analysis. Results: Factor analysis showed the relationship between management risk indicators and dimensions of insurance risk, liquidity, credit, market, operational, national, reputation, legal, management, insurance and health and human resource factors. There was relationship between the indicators of level of implementation of policies and dimensions of human resources, investment, technology, market and information and communication technology. Among the sub-criteria of policy implementation, areas of investment, market, technical and human resources were ranked first to forth, and the information and communication technology area was ranked last. Conclusion: The results revealed that policy evaluation indicators, except for the judicial approach in the indicator of health network formation in network governance, are approved and could be introduced appropriate criterion for assessing network governance indicators defined to evaluate the insurance policies of the Social Security Organization

    Integrated participatory modelling of irrigated agriculture: the case study of the reorganisation of a water management system in Italy

    The paper presents an application of the new version of the 'Decision Support for Irrigated agriculture' DSIrr designed to integrate water and agricultural policy analysis and to support participatory decision process. The tool is a scenario manager for bio-economic farm models considering climatic, agronomic, hydraulic, socio-economic and environmental aspects. The paper offers some insight on the decomposition approach adopted to integrate economic analysis at different scales by illustrating a case study conducted in Italy to support an ex ante evaluation of a water management system reorganisation. Reduce water consumption is a strategic objective which pricing policy cannot address given technical constraints. The replacement of the existing low-efficiency irrigation system could be the solution, but the recover of cost creates an affordability problem.
