    Humanoid robot walking control on inclined planes

    The humanoid bipedal structure is suitable for a assitive robot functioning in the human environment. However, the bipedal walk is a difficult control problem. Walking just on even floor is not satisfactory for the applicability of a humanoid robot. This paper presents a study on bipedal walk on inclined planes. A Zero Moment Point (ZMP) based reference generation technique is employed. The orientation of the feet is adjusted online by a fuzzy logic system to adapt to different walking surface slopes. This system uses a sampling time larger than the one of the joint space position controllers. The average value of the body pitch angle is used as the inputs to the fuzzy logic system. A foot pitch orientation compensator implemented independently for the two feet complements the fuzyy controller. A 12-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) biped robot model is used in the full-dynamics 3-D simulations. Simulations are carried out on even floor and inclined planes with different slopes. The results indicate that the control method presented is successful in enabling the robot to climb slopes of 8.5 degrees (15 percent grade)

    The predictive functional control and the management of constraints in GUANAY II autonomous underwater vehicle actuators

    Autonomous underwater vehicle control has been a topic of research in the last decades. The challenges addressed vary depending on each research group's interests. In this paper, we focus on the predictive functional control (PFC), which is a control strategy that is easy to understand, install, tune, and optimize. PFC is being developed and applied in industrial applications, such as distillation, reactors, and furnaces. This paper presents the rst application of the PFC in autonomous underwater vehicles, as well as the simulation results of PFC, fuzzy, and gain scheduling controllers. Through simulations and navigation tests at sea, which successfully validate the performance of PFC strategy in motion control of autonomous underwater vehicles, PFC performance is compared with other control techniques such as fuzzy and gain scheduling control. The experimental tests presented here offer effective results concerning control objectives in high and intermediate levels of control. In high-level point, stabilization and path following scenarios are proven. In the intermediate levels, the results show that position and speed behaviors are improved using the PFC controller, which offers the smoothest behavior. The simulation depicting predictive functional control was the most effective regarding constraints management and control rate change in the Guanay II underwater vehicle actuator. The industry has not embraced the development of control theories for industrial systems because of the high investment in experts required to implement each technique successfully. However, this paper on the functional predictive control strategy evidences its easy implementation in several applications, making it a viable option for the industry given the short time needed to learn, implement, and operate, decreasing impact on the business and increasing immediacy.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    Online Deep Learning for Improved Trajectory Tracking of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using Expert Knowledge

    This work presents an online learning-based control method for improved trajectory tracking of unmanned aerial vehicles using both deep learning and expert knowledge. The proposed method does not require the exact model of the system to be controlled, and it is robust against variations in system dynamics as well as operational uncertainties. The learning is divided into two phases: offline (pre-)training and online (post-)training. In the former, a conventional controller performs a set of trajectories and, based on the input-output dataset, the deep neural network (DNN)-based controller is trained. In the latter, the trained DNN, which mimics the conventional controller, controls the system. Unlike the existing papers in the literature, the network is still being trained for different sets of trajectories which are not used in the training phase of DNN. Thanks to the rule-base, which contains the expert knowledge, the proposed framework learns the system dynamics and operational uncertainties in real-time. The experimental results show that the proposed online learning-based approach gives better trajectory tracking performance when compared to the only offline trained network.Comment: corrected version accepted for ICRA 201

    A Robust Fuzzy Fractional Order PID Design Based On Multi-Objective Optimization For Rehabilitation Device Control

    In this context, Fuzzy Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID-FLC) controllers are emerged as efficient approaches due to their flexibility and ability to handle nonlinearities and uncertainties. This paper proposes the use of a FOPID-FLC controller for a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) lower limb exoskeleton. Our proposal is based on an enhanced control approach that combines fuzzy logic advantages and fractional calculus benefits. Contrary to popular existing methods, that use the FLC to tune the FOPID  parameters, the FLC in this work is used to generate the system torque depending on patient morphology. Indeed, our fundamental contribution is to design and implement an enhanced FOPID-FLC that achieves an adequate optimal control based on system rules composed of optimal torques and input data. The fractional calculus is approximated using successive first order filters. Next, a multi-objective optimization is established for the tuning of each FOPID parameters. Finally, the FLC is used to adjust the torque depending on the kid's age. The effectiveness of the proposed controller in various scenarios is validated based on numerical simulations. Extensive analyses prove that the FOPID-FLC outperforms the FOPID with a 90\% of improvement in terms of error performance indices and 20\% of improvement for the control action. Moreover, the controller exhibits improved robustness against uncertainties and disturbances encountered in rehabilitation environments

    Evolution of Neural Networks for Helicopter Control: Why Modularity Matters

    The problem of the automatic development of controllers for vehicles for which the exact characteristics are not known is considered in the context of miniature helicopter flocking. A methodology is proposed in which neural network based controllers are evolved in a simulation using a dynamic model qualitatively similar to the physical helicopter. Several network architectures and evolutionary sequences are investigated, and two approaches are found that can evolve very competitive controllers. The division of the neural network into modules and of the task into incremental steps seems to be a precondition for success, and we analyse why this might be so

    Real-Time Inverse Dynamic Deep Neural Network Tracking Control for Delta Robot Based on a COVID-19 Optimization

    This paper presents a new technique to design an inverse dynamic model for a delta robot experimental setup to obtain an accurate trajectory. The input/output data were collected using an NI DAQ card where the input is the random angles profile for the three-axis and the output is the corresponding measured torques. The inverse dynamic model was developed based on the deep neural network (NN) and the new COVID-19 optimization to find the optimal initial weights and bias values of the NN model. Due to the system uncertainty and nonlinearity, the inverse dynamic model is not enough to track accurately the preselected profile. So, the PD compensator is used to absorb the error deviation of the end effector. The experimental results show that the proposed inverse dynamic deep NN with PD compensator achieves good performance and high tracking accuracy. The suggested control was examined using two different methods. The spiral path is the first, with a root mean square error of 0.00258 m, while the parabola path is the second, with a root mean square error of 0.00152 m

En este modelo intervienen tres factores: - Modelado dinámico del sólido lineal a transportar. - Modelo dinámico del cuadricóptero para que tenga en cuenta la dinámica pasiva y los efectos del SLD. - Estrategia de control para un transporte e ciente y robusto. Diferenciamos dos tareas principales: (a) lograr una con guración cuasiestacionaria de una distribución de carga equivalente a transportar entre todos los robots. (b) Ejecutar el transporte en un plano horizontal de todo el sistema. El transporte se realiza mediante una con guración de seguir al líder en columna, pero los cuadricópteros individualmente tienen que ser su cientemente robustos para afrontar todas las no-linealidades provocadas por la dinámica del SLD y perturbaciones externas, como el viento. Los controladores del cuadricóptero se han diseñado para asegurar la estabilidad del sistema y una rápida convergencia del sistema. Se han comparado y testeado estrategias de control en tiempo real y no-real para comprobar la bondad y capacidad de ajuste a las condiciones dinámicas cambiantes del sistema. También se ha estudiado la escalabilidad del sistema
