THE IMPACT OF PERSONALITY TRAITS AND DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE ON DECISION MAKING – A BEHAVIORAL EXPERIMENT

    Get PDF
There is a critical need to better understand the nuances of decision making in today’s global business environment. The quality of decisions is importantly influenced by the personality traits and knowledge of the decision makers. We analyze the effect of those factors on confidence and quality of decisions taken in the context of supply chain management. Personality traits are defined through the Big Five personality traits model which has recently gained widespread reception. The data was gathered via an experiment in which a group of participants played an online supply chain simulation game where several decisions needed to be made during a span of one week. The results show that confidence in decision positively affects decision quality. Neuroticism and agreeableness negatively affect confidence in decision, while self-reported knowledge positively affects confidence in decision. Further work includes running more experiments in order to gain more data for verification of results and testing of additional hypotheses which could not be tested on the current data sample

The effect of personality traits and knowledge on the quality of decisions in supply chains

Supply chain and operations management requires frequent decision making, and decisions are importantly influenced by the personality traits and knowledge of the decision maker. Thus, we analyse the effect of those factors on the confidence and quality of decisions taken in the context of supply chain management. The data were gathered via an online supply chain simulation game where subjects needed to make several decisions. Personality traits of the participants were tested using the Big Five model. The structural model was estimated using the partial least squares structural equation modelling approach. We found that decision-makers with lower levels of extraversion and agreeableness and higher levels of conscientiousness and openness make better decisions. On the other hand, neuroticism and agreeableness negatively affect confidence in decisions. Tested knowledge positively influences both decision-makers’ confidence in and the quality of their decisions while self-reported knowledge has no significant effect. Therefore, the companies should carefully consider how an individual’s personality matches the type of job at hand and rely on tested instead of self-reported knowledge

Study on Incentive Mechanism of Electronic Warehouse Receipt Financing Mode in Online Supply Chain Finance

    Get PDF
We take the electronic warehouse receipt business patterns of online supply chain finance as the research object, and based on the perspective of moral risk prevention and adverse selection, with the goal of maximizing the overall benefits of supply chain, we focus on the incentive mechanism between banks and B2B platform and its own logistics enterprises. By constructing the expected profit function, the optimal profit function of the bank and the B2B platform can be deduced, which can directly stimulate the B2B platform and its own logistics enterprises, so as to prevent the moral hazard of the B2B platform. The relevant parameters are assigned and some parameters are simulated and analyzed by MATLAB. Therefore, we get the variation trends of related functions and the influencing factors, and verify the incentive model has certain practical value. Through the establishment of incentive mechanism we find that it is very useful for reducing the risk of principal-agent and credit bank. Risk reduction will greatly improve the enthusiasm of B2B platforms and their own logistics enterprises

...SMEs (Small and medium enterprises) play an important role in chinese economic development, but because of some factors, such as its size, non- standardized secured asset management, non-perfect financial system and so on, it is difficult for them to finance from the banks. SMEs financing is a problem which puzzles both themselves and the banks. While supply chain finance, as a financial business,...学位:工程硕士院系专业:管理学院_物流工程学号:1772011115111

Improving Timeliness in the Neglected Tropical Diseases Preventive Chemotherapy Donation Supply Chain through Information Sharing: A Retrospective Empirical Analysis

BACKGROUND: Billions of doses of medicines are donated for mass drug administrations in support of the World Health Organization’s “Roadmap to Implementation,” which aims to control, eliminate, and eradicate Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The supply chain to deliver these medicines is complex, with fragmented data systems and limited visibility on performance. This study empirically evaluates the impact of an online supply chain performance measurement system, “NTDeliver,” providing understanding of the value of information sharing towards the success of global health programs. METHODS: Retrospective secondary data were extracted from NTDeliver, which included 1,484 shipments for four critical medicines ordered by over 100 countries between February 28, 2006 and December 31, 2018. We applied statistical regression models to analyze the impact on key performance metrics, comparing data before and after the system was implemented. FINDINGS: The results suggest information sharing has a positive association with improvement for two key performance indicators: purchase order timeliness (β = 0.941, p = 0.003) and—most importantly—delivery timeliness (β = 0.828, p = 0.027). There is a positive association with improvement for three variables when the data are publicly shared: shipment timeliness (β = 2.57, p = 0.001), arrival timeliness (β = 2.88, p = 0.003), and delivery timeliness (β = 2.82, p = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that information sharing between the NTD program partners via the NTDeliver system has a positive association with supply chain performance improvements, especially when data are shared publicly. Given the large volume of medicine and the significant number of people requiring these medicines, information sharing has the potential to provide improvements to global health programs affecting the health of tens to hundreds of millions of people
