Fault estimation and active fault tolerant control for linear parameter varying descriptor systems
Starting with the baseline controller design, this paper proposes an integrated approach of active fault tolerant control based on proportional derivative extended state observer (PDESO) for linear parameter varying descriptor systems. The PDESO can simultaneously provide the estimates of the system states, sensor faults, and actuator faults. The Lâ‚‚ robust performance of the closed-loop system to bounded exogenous disturbance and bounded uncertainty is achieved by a two-step design procedure adapted from the traditional observer-based controller design. Furthermore, an LMI pole-placement region and the Lâ‚‚ robustness performance are combined into a multiobjective formulation by suitably combing the appropriate LMI descriptions. A parameter-varying system example is given to illustrate the design procedure and the validity of the proposed integrated design approach
A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems
This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers. Finally, safety of convex systems is discussed by describing popular techniques for fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control (FTC).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Both time-invariant and time-varying cases are considered. For the time-invariant case, an algebraic Riccati matrix inequality approach is proposed to design a robust H∞ filter such that the filtering process remains asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties, and the transfer function from the disturbance inputs to error state outputs satisfies the prespecified H∞ norm upper bound constraint. We establish the conditions under which the desired robust H ∞ filters exist, and derive the explicit expression of these filters. For the time-varying case, we develop a differential Riccati inequality method to design the robust filters. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed design approac
Robust stability and stabilization for singular systems with state delay and parameter uncertainty
This note considers the problems of robust stability and stabilization for uncertain continuous singular systems with state delay. The parametric uncertainty is assumed to be norm bounded. The purpose of the robust stability problem is to give conditions such that the uncertain singular system is regular, impulse free, and stable for all admissible uncertainties, while the purpose of robust stabilization is to design a state feedback control law such that the resulting closed-loop system is robustly stable. These problems are solved via the notions of generalized quadratic stability and generalized quadratic stabilization, respectively. Necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized quadratic stability and generalized quadratic stabilization are derived. A strict linear matrix inequality (LMI) design approach is developed. An explicit expression for the desired robust state feedback control law is also given. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.published_or_final_versio
Robust stability and stabilization of discrete singular systems: An equivalent characterization
This note deals with the problems of robust stability and stabilization for uncertain discrete-time singular systems. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to be time-invariant and norm-bounded appearing in both the state and input matrices. A new necessary and sufficient condition for a discrete-time singular system to be regular, causal and stable is proposed in terms of a strict linear matrix inequality (LMI). Based on this, the concepts of generalized quadratic stability and generalized quadratic stabilization for uncertain discrete-time singular systems are introduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized quadratic stability and generalized quadratic stabilization are obtained in terms of a strict LMI and a set of matrix inequalities, respectively. With these conditions, the problems of robust stability and robust stabilization are solved. An explicit expression of a desired state feedback controller is also given, which involves no matrix decomposition. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.published_or_final_versio
Time-Delay Systems
Time delay is very often encountered in various technical systems, such as electric, pneumatic and hydraulic networks, chemical processes, long transmission lines, robotics, etc. The existence of pure time lag, regardless if it is present in the control or/and the state, may cause undesirable system transient response, or even instability. Consequently, the problem of controllability, observability, robustness, optimization, adaptive control, pole placement and particularly stability and robustness stabilization for this class of systems, has been one of the main interests for many scientists and researchers during the last five decades
Memory Resilient Gain-scheduled State-Feedback Control of Uncertain LTI/LPV Systems with Time-Varying Delays
The stabilization of uncertain LTI/LPV time delay systems with time varying
delays by state-feedback controllers is addressed. At the difference of other
works in the literature, the proposed approach allows for the synthesis of
resilient controllers with respect to uncertainties on the implemented delay.
It is emphasized that such controllers unify memoryless and exact-memory
controllers usually considered in the literature. The solutions to the
stability and stabilization problems are expressed in terms of LMIs which allow
to check the stability of the closed-loop system for a given bound on the
knowledge error and even optimize the uncertainty radius under some performance
constraints; in this paper, the performance measure is
considered. The interest of the approach is finally illustrated through several
examples
