    Our Ocean - Marine Legends, Fairy tales and Folklore in Ireland provides a selection of artwork and poems created by primary school children around Ireland. The artwork and poems are full of mythical glory and reflect the children’s ideas and inspirations, influenced by local and well-loved stories in Ireland. The artwork and poems that have been selected represent a wide range of Irish folklore. Some of the stories date back many centuries telling fables of Vikings, Saints, warriors and heroines. Others provides an insight into modern tales of fishermen and their catch. A common theme throughout the work is the mystery that surrounds our ocean and how it has forever influenced our lives through tragedy, inspiration, wellbeing and hope. Some of the poems have be written by individual children and others have been drafted by the whole class. Their work is a delight to read and showcase the children, who range in age from junior infants to 6th class, as young scholars to be

    Algebras for weighted search

    Weighted search is an essential component of many fundamental and useful algorithms. Despite this, it is relatively under explored as a computational effect, receiving not nearly as much attention as either depth- or breadth-first search. This paper explores the algebraic underpinning of weighted search, and demonstrates how to implement it as a monad transformer. The development first explores breadth-first search, which can be expressed as a polynomial over semirings. These polynomials are generalised to the free semi module monad to capture a wide range of applications, including probability monads, polynomial monads, and monads for weighted search. Finally, a monad trans-former based on the free semi module monad is introduced. Applying optimisations to this type yields an implementation of pairing heaps, which is then used to implement Dijkstra’s algorithm and efficient probabilistic sampling. The construction is formalised in Cubical Agda and implemented in Haskell

    The Locus Algorithm II: A robust software system to maximise the quality of fields of view for Differential Photometry

    We present the software system developed to implement the Locus Algorithm, a novel algorithm designed to maximise the performance of differential photometry systems by optimising the number and quality of reference stars in the Field of View with the target. Firstly, we state the design requirements, constraints and ambitions for the software system required to implement this algorithm. Then, a detailed software design is presented for the system in operation. Next, the data design including file structures used and the data environment required for the system are defined. Finally, we conclude by illustrating the scaling requirements which mandate a high-performance computing implementation of this system, which is discussed in the other papers in this series
