Non-english and non-latin signature verification systems: A survey
Signatures continue to be an important biometric because they remain widely used as a means of personal verification and therefore an automatic verification system is needed. Manual signature-based authentication of a large number of documents is a difficult and time consuming task. Consequently for many years, in the field of protected communication and financial applications, we have observed an explosive growth in biometric personal authentication systems that are closely connected with measurable unique physical characteristics (e.g. hand geometry, iris scan, finger prints or DNA) or behavioural features. Substantial research has been undertaken in the field of signature verification involving English signatures, but to the best of our knowledge, very few works have considered non-English signatures such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic etc. In order to convey the state-of-the-art in the field to researchers, in this paper we present a survey of non-English and non-Latin signature verification systems
Fuzzy Logic Classification of Handwritten Signature Based Computer Access and File Encryption
Often times computer access and file encryption is successful based on how complex a password will be, how often users could change their complex password, the length of the complex password and how creative users are in creating a complex passsword to stand against unauthorized access to computer resources or files. This research proposes a new way of computer access and file encryption based on the fuzzy logic classification of handwritten signatures. Feature extraction of the handwritten signatures, the Fourier transformation algorithm and the k-Nearest Algorithm could be implemented to determine how close the signature is to the signature on file to grant or deny users access to computer resources and encrypted files. lternatively implementing fuzzy logic algorithms and fuzzy k-Nearest Neighbor algorithm to the captured signature could determine how close a signature is to the one on file to grant or deny access to computer resources and files. This research paper accomplishes the feature recognition firstly by extracting the features as users sign their signatures for storage, and secondly by determining the shortest distance between the signatures. On the other hand this research work accomplish the fuzzy logic recognition firstly by classifying the signature into a membership groups based on their degree of membership and secondly by determining what level of closeness the signatures are from each other. The signatures were collected from three selected input devices- the mouse, I-Pen and the IOGear. This research demonstrates which input device users found efficient and flexible to sign their respective names. The research work also demonstrates the security levels of implementing the fuzzy logic, fuzzy k-Nearest Neighbor, Fourier Transform.Master'sCollege of Arts and Sciences: Computer ScienceUniversity of Michiganhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/117719/1/Kwarteng.pd
Integrating passive ubiquitous surfaces into human-computer interaction
Mobile technologies enable people to interact with computers ubiquitously. This dissertation investigates how ordinary, ubiquitous surfaces can be integrated into human-computer interaction to extend the interaction space beyond the edge of the display. It turns out that acoustic and tactile features generated during an interaction can be combined to identify input events, the user, and the surface. In addition, it is shown that a heterogeneous distribution of different surfaces is particularly suitable for realizing versatile interaction modalities. However, privacy concerns must be considered when selecting sensors, and context can be crucial in determining whether and what interaction to perform.
Forensics Writer Identification using Text Mining and Machine Learning
Constant technological growth has resulted in the danger and seriousness of cyber-attacks, which has recently unmistakably developed in various institutions that have complex Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. For instance, for the last three (3) years, the most horrendous instances of cybercrimes were perceived globally with enormous information breaks, fake news spreading, cyberbullying, crypto-jacking, and cloud computing services. To this end, various agencies improvised techniques to curb this vice and bring perpetrators, both real and perceived, to book in relation to such serious cybersecurity issues. Consequently, Forensic Writer Identification was introduced as one of the most effective remedies to the concerned issue through a stylometry application. Indeed, the Forensic Writer Identification is a complex forensic science technology that utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to safeguard, recognize proof, extraction, and documentation of the computer or digital explicit proof that can be utilized by the official courtroom, especially, the investigative officers in case of a criminal issue or just for data analytics. Comparison of signature on paper and apple® ipad using multivariate analysis
The transformation of documentation either in legal public or private industry
had moved with the digitalization of business around the world in an unpredicted
acceleration in last two decades particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic. The
Forensic Document Examiners (FDEs) for this study was on high demand to move
forward toward digital document examination just like the way they did for
conventional physical document examination. Signature, being one of the most
socially acceptable biometric traits for the past centuries, has become one of the
challenges when a handwritten signature was digitally captured on digital device
instead of the traditional paper as writing medium. Most of the previously available
research focused on the temporal digital data for the features and characteristics of
handwritten signatures. This study aimed to focus on the height ratio analysis of
writing zones in handwritten signatures deposited on paper medium and on the Apple®
iPad medium when both were treated as static flat images when the digital document
was not made available to the FDE. The results indicated that there were differences
for signatures on different writing mediums as opposed to the principle of handwriting
that the writing zone of a person remained relatively uniform in most of the aspects.
The implementation of statistical approaches allowed the handwriting examination
being presented in quantitative and objective opinions to the court of law by using
%RSD, the k-means clustering, and factor analysis as preliminary study

Pattern mining approaches used in sensor-based biometric recognition: a review
Sensing technologies place significant interest in the use of biometrics for the recognition and assessment of individuals. Pattern mining techniques have established a critical step in the progress of sensor-based biometric systems that are capable of perceiving, recognizing and computing sensor data, being a technology that searches for the high-level information about pattern recognition from low-level sensor readings in order to construct an artificial substitute for human recognition. The design of a successful sensor-based biometric recognition system needs to pay attention to the different issues involved in processing variable data being - acquisition of biometric data from a sensor, data pre-processing, feature extraction, recognition and/or classification, clustering and validation. A significant number of approaches from image processing, pattern identification and machine learning have been used to process sensor data. This paper aims to deliver a state-of-the-art summary and present strategies for utilizing the broadly utilized pattern mining methods in order to identify the challenges as well as future research directions of sensor-based biometric systems
