A Technology Proposal for a Management Information System for the Director’s Office, NAL.

This technology proposal attempts in giving a viable solution for a Management Information System (MIS) for the Director's Office. In today's IT scenario, an Organization's success greatly depends on its ability to get accurate and timely data on its operations of varied nature and to manage this data effectively to guide its activities and meet its goals. To cater to the information needs of an Organization or an Office like the Director's Office, information systems are developed and deployed to gather and process data in ways that produce a variety of information to the end-user. MIS can therefore can be defined as an integrated user-machine system for providing information to support operations, management and decision-making functions in an Organization. The system in a nutshell, utilizes computer hardware and software, manual procedures, models for analysis planning, control and decision-making and a database. Using state-of-the-art front-end and back-end web based tools, this technology proposal attempts to provide a single-point Information Management, Information Storage, Information Querying and Information Retrieval interface to the Director and his office for handling all information traffic flow in and out of the Director's Office

Applications used in workgroup information systems. Group collaboration in business

Individuals in a business usually do not work entirely alone, but instead in teams, committees, departments, and other types of workgroups. To collaborate on common tasks, workgroup members can have meetings, talk on the telephone, send faxes, and distribute memos. Group members can also use workgroup information systems to help them collaborate. This type of system is also called a group support system because it supports the work of people in a group. This article looks at applications used in workgroup information systems, and shows how these applications affect group collaboration in businesses. First, we explain how workgroup information systems encourage group collaboration. Annotated directory of US Government information system projects of potential interest to NASA/SSPO

The purpose of this research activity was to develop a list for NASA of major U.S. government information systems contacts who are able to cooperate with NASA on technical interchange. The list contains the names of appropriate managers involved in major information system projects, U.S. government office officials, and their hierarchy up to the highest officials whose major responsibilities include government information systems development

Development of vendor evaluation criteria and post-implementation considerations for MSFC center-wide executive information system

In June 1991, the MITRE Corporation submitted a series of recommendations as part of a Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Management Information System Requirements Study, initiated by the Information Systems Office (ISO). A major recommendation of the study was to develop an Executive Information System (EIS) for MSFC executives. ISO was directed, by center management, to proceed with the development of a Center-Wide Executive Information System. Existing EIS prototypes, developed by the Space Shuttle Projects Office and the Payload Projects Office, were reviewed. These existing MSFC prototypes were considered not to encompass the required functionality needed on a center-wide basis. A follow-up study by MITRE provided top-level system requirements. These were later incorporated into a final requirements specification document by Boeing Computer Support Services

DOCUMENT PROCESSING IN THE AUTOMATED OFFICE: IMPLICATIONS FOR MIS RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Document processing is an integral part of the automated office. Because document-based information systems are composed largely of unstructured text as opposed to structured data, the techniques which have been successfully applied to the design of current database systems are not adequate for the design of office information systems. The paper identifies issues related to the storage and retrieval of office documents, and the management of information in the automated office. Strategies for broadening MIS research and education to address these issues are suggested
