    Prezentowana w artykule idea polega na wirtualnej integracji rozproszonych heterogenicznych zasobów bazodanowych w scentralizowaną, jednorodną, spójną i pozbawioną fragmentacji oraz nadmiarowości całość tworzącą wirtualne repozytorium zapewniające pewne powszechne funkcjonalności i usługi, włączając w to infrastrukturę zaufania (bezpieczeństwo, prywatność, licencjonowanie, płatności, itp.), Web Services, rozproszone transakcje, zarządzanie procesami (workflow management), itd. Opisane poniżej metody integracji skupiają się właśnie na najpopularniejszych zasobach relacyjnych, do których zostaje umożliwiony w pełni przezroczysty dostęp poprzez niezwykle elastyczny obiektowy język zapytań. Opracowane specjalnie do tego celu mechanizmy optymalizacyjne stanowią kombinację dedykowanych technik obiektowych z niezwykle wydajnymi optymalizatorami relacyjnymi.The presented idea aims to virtually integrate distributed heterogeneous database resources into a centralised consistent and non-fragmented and non-redundant whole creating a virtual repository. The repository provides common functionalities and services, including trust infrastructure (like security, privacy, licensing, payments), Web Services, distributed transactions, workflow management, etc. The described integration methods focus on the most popular and commonly used relational resources. Such resources become fully transparently accessible with an extremely flexible object-oriented query language. The dedicated optimisation mechanisms are a combination of object-oriented techniąues and very efficient relational optimisers

It consists of a generic set of basic services ("eSciDoc Infrastructure") and various applications built on top of this infrastructure ("eSciDoc Solutions"). This presentation will focus on the eSciDoc Infrastructure, highlight the differences to the underlying Fedora repository, and demonstrate its powerful und application-centric programming model. In the end of 2008, we released version 1.0 of the eSciDoc Infrastructure. Digital Repositories undergo yet again a substantial change of paradigm. While they started several years ago with a library perspective, mainly focusing on publications, they are now becoming more and more a commodity tool for the workaday life of researchers. Quite often the repository itself is just a background service, providing storage, persistent identification, preservation, and discovery of the content. It is hidden from the end-user by means of specialized applications or services. Fedora's approach of providing a repository architecture rather than an end-user tool accommodates well to this evolution. eSciDoc, from the start of the project nearly five years ago, has emphasized this design pattern by separating backend services (eSciDoc Infrastructure) and front-end applications (eSciDoc Solutions)

As part of the original goals of RODA was the development of a digital repository capable of ingesting, managing and providing access to the various types of digital objects produced by national public institutions. The development of such repository should be supported by open-source technologies and, as much as possible, be based on existing standards.     Mediated data integration and transformation for web service-based software architectures

    Service-oriented architecture using XML-based web services has been widely accepted by many organisations as the standard infrastructure to integrate heterogeneous and autonomous data sources. As a result, many Web service providers are built up on top of the data sources to share the data by supporting provided and required interfaces and methods of data access in a unified manner. In the context of data integration, problems arise when Web services are assembled to deliver an integrated view of data, adaptable to the specific needs of individual clients and providers. Traditional approaches of data integration and transformation are not suitable to automate the construction of connectors dedicated to connect selected Web services to render integrated and tailored views of data. We propose a declarative approach that addresses the oftenneglected data integration and adaptivity aspects of serviceoriented architecture
