    Integration of multimodal data based on surface registration

    The paper proposes and evaluates a strategy for the alignment of anatomical and functional data of the brain. The method takes as an input two different sets of images of a same patient: MR data and SPECT. It proceeds in four steps: first, it constructs two voxel models from the two image sets; next, it extracts from the two voxel models the surfaces of regions of interest; in the third step, the surfaces are interactively aligned by corresponding pairs; finally a unique volume model is constructed by selectively applying the geometrical transformations associated to the regions and weighting their contributions. The main advantages of this strategy are (i) that it can be applied retrospectively, (ii) that it is tri-dimensional, and (iii) that it is local. Its main disadvantage with regard to previously published methods it that it requires the extraction of surfaces. However, this step is often required for other stages of the multimodal analysis such as the visualization and therefore its cost can be accounted in the global cost of the process.Postprint (published version

    Exploring plenoptic properties of correlation imaging with chaotic light

    In a setup illuminated by chaotic light, we consider different schemes that enable to perform imaging by measuring second-order intensity correlations. The most relevant feature of the proposed protocols is the ability to perform plenoptic imaging, namely to reconstruct the geometrical path of light propagating in the system, by imaging both the object and the focusing element. This property allows to encode, in a single data acquisition, both multi-perspective images of the scene and light distribution in different planes between the scene and the focusing element. We unveil the plenoptic property of three different setups, explore their refocusing potentialities and discuss their practical applications.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

    Additive manufacturing (AM) or three-dimensional (3D) printing has introduced a novel production method in design, manufacturing, and distribution to end-users. This technology has provided great freedom in design for creating complex components, highly customizable products, and efficient waste minimization. The last industrial revolution, namely industry 4.0, employs the integration of smart manufacturing systems and developed information technologies. Accordingly, AM plays a principal role in industry 4.0 thanks to numerous benefits, such as time and material saving, rapid prototyping, high efficiency, and decentralized production methods. This review paper is to organize a comprehensive study on AM technology and present the latest achievements and industrial applications. Besides that, this paper investigates the sustainability dimensions of the AM process and the added values in economic, social, and environment sections. Finally, the paper concludes by pointing out the future trend of AM in technology, applications, and materials aspects that have the potential to come up with new ideas for the future of AM explorations

    Coping with lists in the ifcOWL ontology

    Over the past few years, several suggestions have been made of how to convert an EXPRESS schema into an OWL ontology. The conversion from EXPRESS to OWL is of particular use to architectural design and construction industry, because one of the key data models in architectural design and construction industry, namely the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is represented using the EXPRESS information modelling language. In each of these conversion options, the way in which lists are converted (e.g. lists of coordinates, lists of spaces in a floor) is key to the structure and eventual strength of the resulting ontology. In this article, we outline and discuss the main decisions that can be made in converting LIST concepts in EXPRESS to equivalent OWL expressions. This allows one to identify which conversion option is appropriate to support proper and efficient information reuse in the domain of architecture and construction
