Bearings are widely used in rotating machines, and the bearing abnormities have significant effects on the operation of machines. Short-term trend prediction of the bearing is very important for the maintenance decision making. In this paper, a novel bearing short-term prediction method based on SGWT and MLE method is developed. The original data is denoised using SGWT, and the maximum Lyapunov exponent which contains bearing fault characteristic information are calculated, and these characteristic parameters are used to predict the short-term trend of bearing. The effectiveness of this methodology is demonstrated using experimental data

Medical Image Compression using Lifting based New Wavelet Transforms

In this paper, the construction of new lifting based wavelets by a new method of calculating lifting coefficients is presented. First of all, new basis functions are utilized to ease new orthogonal traditional wavelets. Then by using the decomposing poly-phase matrix the lifting steps are calculated using a simplified method. The interesting feature of lifting scheme is that the construction of wavelet is derived in spatial domain only; hence the difficulty in the design of traditional wavelets is avoided. Lifting scheme was used to generate second generation wavelets which are not necessarily translation and dilation of one particular function. Short and sharp basis functions are chosen so as to obtain the non-uniform nature of usual image classes. Implemented wavelets are applied on a number of medical images. It was found that the compression ratio (CR) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) are far ahead of that are obtained with the popular traditional wavelets as well as the successful 5/3 and 9/7 lifting based wavelets. Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) is used to incorporate compression.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i5.596

Incipient defect identification in rolling bearings using adaptive lifting scheme packet

    Get PDF
Defects on the surface of rolling bearing elements are some of the most frequent causes of malfunctions and breakages of rotating machines. Defect detection in rolling bearings via techniques that examine changes in measured signal is a very important topic of research due to increasing demands for quality and reliability. In this paper, incipient defect identification method based on adaptive lifting scheme packet is proposed. Adaptive lifting scheme packet operators which adapt to the signal characteristic are constructed. The shock pulse value in defect sensitive frequency band is used as the defect indicator to identify the defect location and severity of rolling bearing. The proposed defect identification method is applied to analyze the experimental signal from rolling bearing with incipient inner raceway defect. The result confirms that the proposed method is accurate and robust in rolling bearing incipient defect identification

Roller Bearing Fault Diagnosis Based on Nonlinear Redundant Lifting Wavelet Packet Analysis

    Get PDF
A nonlinear redundant lifting wavelet packet algorithm was put forward in this study. For the node signals to be decomposed in different layers, predicting operators and updating operators with different orders of vanishing moments were chosen to take norm lp of the scale coefficient and wavelet coefficient acquired from decomposition, the predicting operator and updating operator corresponding to the minimal norm value were used as the optimal operators to match the information characteristics of a node. With the problems of frequency alias and band interlacing in the analysis of redundant lifting wavelet packet being investigated, an improved algorithm for decomposition and node single-branch reconstruction was put forward. The normalized energy of the bottommost decomposition node coefficient was calculated, and the node signals with the maximal energy were extracted for demodulation. The roller bearing faults were detected successfully with the improved analysis on nonlinear redundant lifting wavelet packet being applied to the fault diagnosis of the roller bearings of the finishing mills in a plant. This application proved the validity and practicality of this method

Optimized Update/Prediction Assignment for Lifting Transforms on Graphs

Transformations on graphs can provide compact representations of signals with many applications in denoising, feature extraction or compression. In particular, lifting transforms have the advantage of being critically sampled and invertible by construction, but the efficiency of the transform depends on the choice of a good bipartition of the graph into update (U) and prediction (P) nodes. This is the update/prediction (U=P) assignment problem, which is the focus of this paper. We analyze this problem theoretically and derive an optimal U=P assignment under assumptions about signal model and filters. Furthermore, we prove that the best U=P partition is related to the correlation between nodes on the graph and is not the one that minimizes the number of conflicts (connections between nodes of same label) or maximizes the weight of the cut. We also provide experimental results in randomly generated graph signals and real data from image and video signals that validate our theoretical conclusions, demonstrating improved performance over state of the art solutions for this problem. This work was supported in part by NSF under Grant CCF-1018977 and in part by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under Grants TEC2014-53390-P, TEC2014-52289-R, TEC2016-81900-REDT/AEI and TEC2017-83838-RPublicad

Directional Transforms for Video Coding Based on Lifting on Graphs

    Get PDF
In this work we describe and optimize a general scheme based on lifting transforms on graphs for video coding. A graph is constructed to represent the video signal. Each pixel becomes a node in the graph and links between nodes represent similarity between them. Therefore, spatial neighbors and temporal motion-related pixels can be linked, while nonsimilar pixels (e.g., pixels across an edge) may not be. Then, a lifting-based transform, in which filterin operations are performed using linked nodes, is applied to this graph, leading to a 3-dimensional (spatio-temporal) directional transform which can be viewed as an extension of wavelet transforms for video. The design of the proposed scheme requires four main steps: (i) graph construction, (ii) graph splitting, (iii) filte design, and (iv) extension of the transform to different levels of decomposition. We focus on the optimization of these steps in order to obtain an effective transform for video coding. Furthermore, based on this scheme, we propose a coefficien reordering method and an entropy coder leading to a complete video encoder that achieves better coding performance than a motion compensated temporal filterin wavelet-based encoder and a simple encoder derived from H.264/AVC that makes use of similar tools as our proposed encoder (reference software JM15.1 configu ed to use 1 reference frame, no subpixel motion estimation, 16 Ă— 16 inter and 4 Ă— 4 intra modes). This work was supported in part by NSF under grant CCF-1018977 and by Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under grants TEC2014-53390-P and TEC2014-52289-R.Publicad
