    Automatic traffic light control at intersection has recently become one of the most active research areas related to the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Due to the massive growth in urbanization and traffic congestion, intelligent vision based traffic light controller is needed to reduce the traffi c delay and travel time especially in developing countries as the current automatic time based control is not realistic while sensor-based tra ffic light controller is not reliable in developing countries. Vision based traffi c light controller depends mainly on traffic congestion estimation at cross roads, because the main road junctions of a city are these roads where most of the road-beds are lost. Most of the previous studies related to this topic do not take unattended vehicles into consideration when estimating the tra ffic density or traffi c flow. In this study we would like to improve the performance of vision based traffi c light control by detecting stationary and unattended vehicles to give them higher weights, using image processing and pattern recognition techniques for much e ffective and e ffecient tra ffic congestion estimation

    MOR-UAV: A Benchmark Dataset and Baselines for Moving Object Recognition in UAV Videos

    Visual data collected from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has opened a new frontier of computer vision that requires automated analysis of aerial images/videos. However, the existing UAV datasets primarily focus on object detection. An object detector does not differentiate between the moving and non-moving objects. Given a real-time UAV video stream, how can we both localize and classify the moving objects, i.e. perform moving object recognition (MOR)? The MOR is one of the essential tasks to support various UAV vision-based applications including aerial surveillance, search and rescue, event recognition, urban and rural scene understanding.To the best of our knowledge, no labeled dataset is available for MOR evaluation in UAV videos. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce MOR-UAV, a large-scale video dataset for MOR in aerial videos. We achieve this by labeling axis-aligned bounding boxes for moving objects which requires less computational resources than producing pixel-level estimates. We annotate 89,783 moving object instances collected from 30 UAV videos, consisting of 10,948 frames in various scenarios such as weather conditions, occlusion, changing flying altitude and multiple camera views. We assigned the labels for two categories of vehicles (car and heavy vehicle). Furthermore, we propose a deep unified framework MOR-UAVNet for MOR in UAV videos. Since, this is a first attempt for MOR in UAV videos, we present 16 baseline results based on the proposed framework over the MOR-UAV dataset through quantitative and qualitative experiments. We also analyze the motion-salient regions in the network through multiple layer visualizations. The MOR-UAVNet works online at inference as it requires only few past frames. Moreover, it doesn't require predefined target initialization from user. Experiments also demonstrate that the MOR-UAV dataset is quite challenging

    Milestones in Autonomous Driving and Intelligent Vehicles Part II: Perception and Planning

    Growing interest in autonomous driving (AD) and intelligent vehicles (IVs) is fueled by their promise for enhanced safety, efficiency, and economic benefits. While previous surveys have captured progress in this field, a comprehensive and forward-looking summary is needed. Our work fills this gap through three distinct articles. The first part, a "Survey of Surveys" (SoS), outlines the history, surveys, ethics, and future directions of AD and IV technologies. The second part, "Milestones in Autonomous Driving and Intelligent Vehicles Part I: Control, Computing System Design, Communication, HD Map, Testing, and Human Behaviors" delves into the development of control, computing system, communication, HD map, testing, and human behaviors in IVs. This part, the third part, reviews perception and planning in the context of IVs. Aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in AD and IVs, this work caters to both newcomers and seasoned researchers. By integrating the SoS and Part I, we offer unique insights and strive to serve as a bridge between past achievements and future possibilities in this dynamic field.Comment: 17pages, 6figures.     Robust pedestrian detection and path prediction using mmproved YOLOv5

    In vision-based surveillance systems, pedestrian recognition and path prediction are critical concerns. Advanced computer vision applications, on the other hand, confront numerous challenges due to differences in pedestrian postures and scales, backdrops, and occlusion. To tackle these challenges, we present a YOLOv5-based deep learning-based pedestrian recognition and path prediction method. The updated YOLOv5 model was first used to detect pedestrians of various sizes and proportions. The proposed path prediction method is then used to estimate the pedestrian's path based on motion data. The suggested method deals with partial occlusion circumstances to reduce object occlusion-induced progression and loss, and links recognition results with motion attributes. After then, the path prediction algorithm uses motion and directional data to estimate the pedestrian movement's direction. The proposed method outperforms the existing methods, according to the results of the experiments. Finally, we come to a conclusion and look into future study

    Within this survey an attempt is made to document the present status of video surveillance systems. The main components of a surveillance system are presented and studied thoroughly. Algorithms for image enhancement, object detection, object tracking, object recognition and item re-identification are presented. The most common modalities utilized by surveillance systems are discussed, putting emphasis on video, in terms of available resolutions and new imaging approaches, like High Dynamic Range video. The most important features and analytics are presented, along with the most common approaches for image / video quality enhancement. Distributed computational infrastructures are discussed (Cloud, Fog and Edge Computing), describing the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. The most important deep learning algorithms are presented, along with the smart analytics that they utilize. Augmented reality and the role it can play to a surveillance system is reported, just before discussing the challenges and the future trends of surveillance

    Learning visual representations with deep neural networks for intelligent transportation systems problems

    Esta tesis se centra en dos grandes problemas en el área de los sistemas de transportes inteligentes (STI): el conteo de vehículos en escenas de congestión de tráfico; y la detección y estimación del punto de vista, de forma simultánea, de los objetos en una escena. Respecto al problema del conteo, este trabajo se centra primero en el diseño de arquitecturas de redes neuronales profundas que tengan la capacidad de aprender representaciones multi-escala profundas, capaces de estimar de forma precisa la cuenta de objetos, mediante mapas de densidad. Se trata también el problema de la escala de los objetos introducida por la gran perspectiva típicamente presente en el área de recuento de objetos. Además, con el éxito de las redes hourglass profundas en el campo del conteo de objetos, este trabajo propone un nuevo tipo de red hourglass profunda con conexiones de corto circuito auto-gestionadas. Los modelos propuestos se evalúan en las bases de datos públicas más utilizadas y logran los resultados iguales o superiores al estado del arte en el momento en que fueron publicadas. Para la segunda parte, se realiza un estudio comparativo completo del problema de detección de objetos y la estimación de la pose de forma simultánea. Se expone el compromiso existente entre la localización del objeto y la estimación de su pose. Un detector necesita idealmente una representación que sea invariable al punto de vista, mientras que un estimador de poses necesita ser discriminatorio. Por lo tanto, se proponen tres nuevas arquitecturas de redes neurales profundas en las que el problema de la detección de objetos y la estimación de la pose se van desacoplando progresivamente. Además, se aborda la cuestión de si la pose debe expresarse como un valor discreto o continuo. A pesar de ofrecer un rendimiento similar, los resultados muestran que los enfoques continuos son más sensibles al sesgo del punto de vista principal de la categoría del objeto. Se realiza un análisis comparativo detallado en las dos bases de datos principales, es decir, PASCAL3D+ y ObjectNet3D. Se logran resultados competitivos con todos los modelos propuestos en ambos conjuntos de datos

Die Dynamik änderte sich von einem primitiven Organismus, der auf den Kontakt mit der Nahrung wartete, zu einem Organismus, der durch visuelle Sensoren gesucht wurde. Das menschliche Auge ist eine der raffiniertesten Entwicklungen der Evolution, aber es hat immer noch Mängel. Der Mensch hat über Millionen von Jahren einen biologischen Wahrnehmungsalgorithmus entwickelt, der in der Lage ist, Autos zu fahren, Maschinen zu bedienen, Flugzeuge zu steuern und Schiffe zu navigieren. Die Automatisierung dieser Fähigkeiten für Computer ist entscheidend für verschiedene Anwendungen, darunter selbstfahrende Autos, Augmented Realität und architektonische Vermessung. Die visuelle Nahfeldwahrnehmung im Kontext von selbstfahrenden Autos kann die Umgebung in einem Bereich von 0 - 10 Metern und 360° Abdeckung um das Fahrzeug herum wahrnehmen. Sie ist eine entscheidende Entscheidungskomponente bei der Entwicklung eines sichereren automatisierten Fahrens. Jüngste Fortschritte im Bereich Computer Vision und Deep Learning in Verbindung mit hochwertigen Sensoren wie Kameras und LiDARs haben ausgereifte Lösungen für die visuelle Wahrnehmung hervorgebracht. Bisher stand die Fernfeldwahrnehmung im Vordergrund. Ein weiteres wichtiges Problem ist die begrenzte Rechenleistung, die für die Entwicklung von Echtzeit-Anwendungen zur Verfügung steht. Aufgrund dieses Engpasses kommt es häufig zu einem Kompromiss zwischen Leistung und Laufzeiteffizienz. Wir konzentrieren uns auf die folgenden Themen, um diese anzugehen: 1) Entwicklung von Nahfeld-Wahrnehmungsalgorithmen mit hoher Leistung und geringer Rechenkomplexität für verschiedene visuelle Wahrnehmungsaufgaben wie geometrische und semantische Aufgaben unter Verwendung von faltbaren neuronalen Netzen. 2) Verwendung von Multi-Task-Learning zur Überwindung von Rechenengpässen durch die gemeinsame Nutzung von initialen Faltungsschichten zwischen den Aufgaben und die Entwicklung von Optimierungsstrategien, die die Aufgaben ausbalancieren.The formation of eyes led to the big bang of evolution. The human eye is one of the most sophisticated developments of evolution, but it still has defects. Humans have evolved a biological perception algorithm capable of driving cars, operating machinery, piloting aircraft, and navigating ships over millions of years. Automating these capabilities for computers is critical for various applications, including self-driving cars, augmented reality, and architectural surveying. Near-field visual perception in the context of self-driving cars can perceive the environment in a range of 0 - 10 meters and 360° coverage around the vehicle. It is a critical decision-making component in the development of safer automated driving. Recent advances in computer vision and deep learning, in conjunction with high-quality sensors such as cameras and LiDARs, have fueled mature visual perception solutions. Until now, far-field perception has been the primary focus. Another significant issue is the limited processing power available for developing real-time applications. Because of this bottleneck, there is frequently a trade-off between performance and run-time efficiency. We concentrate on the following issues in order to address them: 1) Developing near-field perception algorithms with high performance and low computational complexity for various visual perception tasks such as geometric and semantic tasks using convolutional neural networks. 2) Using Multi-Task Learning to overcome computational bottlenecks by sharing initial convolutional layers between tasks and developing optimization strategies that balance tasks
