Anomaly detection in video with Bayesian nonparametrics

    Get PDF
A novel dynamic Bayesian nonparametric topic model for anomaly detection in video is proposed in this paper. Batch and online Gibbs samplers are developed for inference. The paper introduces a new abnormality measure for decision making. The proposed method is evaluated on both synthetic and real data. The comparison with a non-dynamic model shows the superiority of the proposed dynamic one in terms of the classification performance for anomaly detection

Video Event Recognition and Anomaly Detection by Combining Gaussian Process and Hierarchical Dirichlet Process Models

In this paper, we present an unsupervised learning framework for analyzing activities and interactions in surveillance videos. In our framework, three levels of video events are connected by Hierarchical Dirichlet Process (HDP) model: low-level visual features, simple atomic activities, and multi-agent interactions. Atomic activities are represented as distribution of low-level features, while complicated interactions are represented as distribution of atomic activities. This learning process is unsupervised. Given a training video sequence, low-level visual features are extracted based on optic flow and then clustered into different atomic activities and video clips are clustered into different interactions. The HDP model automatically decide the number of clusters, i.e. the categories of atomic activities and interactions. Based on the learned atomic activities and interactions, a training dataset is generated to train the Gaussian Process (GP) classifier. Then the trained GP models work in newly captured video to classify interactions and detect abnormal events in real time. Furthermore, the temporal dependencies between video events learned by HDP-Hidden Markov Models (HMM) are effectively integrated into GP classifier to enhance the accuracy of the classification in newly captured videos. Our framework couples the benefits of the generative model (HDP) with the discriminant model (GP). We provide detailed experiments showing that our framework enjoys favorable performance in video event classification in real-time in a crowded traffic scene

Discovery of Non-Persistent Motif Mixtures using MRST (Multivariate Rhythm Sequence Technique)

In this paper we present a prototype to discover the unsupervised repeating temporary perception in a time series. The purpose of this work is to control the case of random variable and to find out the measurements caused by the phenomena of simultaneous synchronization. The proposed model has used the non-parametric Bayesian technique to trace the motifs and their occurrences in the data documents. We introduce the Multivariate Rhythm Sequence Technique (MRST) method to find the rebound and repeated motifs and their instance in every document automatically and simultaneously. This model is used in wide range of applications and concentrates on datasets from different modalities. The video footages from non-dynamic cameras and data location bounded to the motif-mining server. The high semantic internal representation of the method gives advantage in operation such as event counting or analyse the sc8BA5;. We used the sample images and videos from New York City traffic data for experiments with and the results shows better performance than the existing motif mixtures analysis in the time series

Localized anomaly detection via hierarchical integrated activity discovery

2014 Spring.Includes bibliographical references. With the increasing number and variety of camera installations, unsupervised methods that learn typical activities have become popular for anomaly detection. In this thesis, we consider recent methods based on temporal probabilistic models and improve them in multiple ways. Our contributions are the following: (i) we integrate the low level processing and the temporal activity modeling, showing how this feedback improves the overall quality of the captured information, (ii) we show how the same approach can be taken to do hierarchical multi-camera processing, (iii) we use spatial analysis of the anomalies both to perform local anomaly detection and to frame automatically the detected anomalies. We illustrate the approach on both traffic data and videos coming from a metro station. We also investigate the application of topic models in Brain Computing Interfaces for Mental Task classification. We observe a classification accuracy of up to 68% for four Mental Tasks on individual subjects
