    Akses data kecepatan lebih tinggi melalui jalur nirkabel memungkinkan dilayani oleh teknologi High Speed Packet Access Evolved (HSPA+). HSPA+ mampu meningkatkan kemampuan broadband mobile dengan kecepatan data sampai 42 Mbps dengan latensi dan delay yang rendah . Kemampuan ini diperoleh dariadanya penambahan teknologi HOM (High Order Modulation), 2x2 MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) dan DTX / DRX (Discontinuous Transmissionand Reception) pada platform WCDMA.     High-Throughput Contention-Free Concurrent Interleaver Architecture for Multi-Standard Turbo Decoder

    To meet the higher data rate requirement of emerging wireless communication technology, numerous parallel turbo decoder architectures have been developed. However, the interleaver has become a major bottleneck that limits the achievable throughput in the parallel decoders due to the massive memory conflicts. In this paper, we propose a flexible Double-Buffer based Contention-Free (DBCF) interleaver architecture that can efficiently solve the memory conflict problem for parallel turbo decoders with very high parallelism. The proposed DBCF architecture enables high throughput concurrent interleaving for multi-standard turbo decoders that support UMTS/HSPA+, LTE and WiMAX, with small datapath delays and low hardware cost. We implemented the DBCF interleaver with a 65nm CMOS technology. The implementation of this highly efficient DBCF interleaver architecture shows significant improvement in terms of the maximum throughput and occupied chip area compared to the previous work.HuaweiNational Science Foundatio

    A Near-Optimum Multiuser Receiver for STBC MC-CDMA Systems Based on Minimum Conditional BER Criterion and Genetic Algorithm-Assisted Channel Estimation

    The implementation of efficient baseband receivers characterized by affordable computational load is a crucial point in the development of transmission systems exploiting diversity in different domains. This would be a crucial point in the future development of 4G systems, where space, time, and frequency diversity will be combined together in order to increase system throughput. In this framework, a linear multiuser detector for MC-CDMA systems with Alamouti's Space-Time Block Coding (STBC), which is inspired by the concept of Minimum Conditional Bit Error Rate (MCBER), is proposed. The MCBER combiner has been implemented in adaptive way by using Least-Mean-Square (LMS) optimization. The estimation of Channel State Information (CSI), necessary to make practically feasible the MCBER detection, is aided by a Genetic Algorithm (GA). The obtained receiver scheme is near-optimal, as both LMS-based MCBER and GA-assisted channel estimation perform closely to optimum in fulfilling their respective tasks. Simulation results evidenced that the proposed receiver always outperforms state-of-the-art receiver schemes based on EGC and MMSE criterion exploiting the same degree of channel knowledge

    Energy saving scheme for multicarrier HSPA + under realistic traffic fluctuation

This development will lead to an increase in the network energy consumption. In this context, we propose an energy efficient dynamic scheme for HSDPA + (High Speed Downlink Packet Access-Advanced) systems aggregating several carriers and which adapts dynamically to the network traffic. The scheme evaluates whether node-B deactivation is feasible without compromising the user flow throughput. Furthermore, instead of progressive de-activation of carriers and/or node-B switch-off, we evaluate the approach where feasible combination of inter-site distance and number of carriers is searched to obtain best savings. This is done by also considering the effect of transition delays between network configuration changes. The solution exploits the fact that re-activation of carriers might permit turning off other BSs earlier at relatively higher load than existing policies. Remote electrical downtilt is also considered as a means to maximize the utilization of higher modulation and coding schemes in the extended cells. This approach promises significant energy savings when compared with existing policies - not only for low traffic hours but also for medium load scenarios.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    Analysis of User Experience in Mobile Video Watching Scenarios

    Mobiilin videon katselu on mobiilin verkkoliikenteen suurimpia kasvattajia. Lisäksi niin mobiiliverkon kuin mobiilien päätelaitteiden teknologia on kehittynyt niin pitkälle, että omalla älypuhelimella on mahdollista seurata teräväpiirtoisia videolähetyksiä verkon yli. Nämä asettavat haasteita käyttäjäkokemukselle. Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on tutkia seikkoja, jotka vaikuttavat mobiilin videonkatselun käyttäjäkokemukseen sekä perehtyä yleisesti käyttäjäkokemukseen, palvelun ja kokemuksen laadun käsitteisiin. Tavoitteena oli myös luoda teoreettinen malli sille, miten käyttäjäkokemusta voidaan mallintaa ottamatta käyttäjä ja hänen näkökulmaa mukaan tutkimusprosessiin. Työssä kehitettiin kolmijakoinen malli kuvaamaan mobiilin videonkatselun käyttäjäkokemuksen laatua teknisestä, verkon ja käyttäjän näkökulmasta. Mallista otettiin teknisen ulottuvuuden osalta lähempään tarkasteluun bittinopeuden, viiveen ja näiden vaihtelun pohjalle luotu matemaattinen malli, jota testattiin skenaarioanalyysin voimin. Tämän mallin pääpaino on kirjallisuustutkimuksen perustella tärkeäksi havaittu bittinopeus. Skenaariot olivat paikallaololle, liikkeelle hyvissä verkko-olosuhteissa ja liikkeelle huonoissa verkko-olosuhteissa ja mittausdata saatiin nettitutka sovelluksesta, jonka avulla mitataan verkkoyhteyksien laatua käyttäjien keräämän datan avulla. Malli ennusti hyvää käyttäjäkokemusta niin paikalla- kuin liikkeelläololle suotuisissa verkko-olosuhteissa ja heikkoa käyttäjäkokemusta haastaviin verkko-olosuhteisiin.Mobile data traffic grows rapidly each passing year and the biggest contributor to this trend is mobile video watching. Additionally, mobile technologies both in network and end-user device sector have evolved quickly in the passing years allowing users to watch even high quality and high definition video streams from their mobile devices. However, since there are limits to bandwidth, this creates challenges for user experience. The purpose of this thesis is to find out which factors affect user experience in mobile video watching scenarios. Second purpose was creating a model based on what was found in the academic literature to describe user experience in mobile video watching and help analyse it. Model is three-fold and has dimensions in video and connection’s technical aspects, network and operator aspects as well as in user aspects. User experience model was further specified in a mathematical way to describe bitrate’s and delay’s effect on user experience. These were the aspects, according to the academic literature, that weigh most when watching streamed video online on a mobile device. This mathematical model was tested using scenario analysis where there were three scenarios: stationary, moving with good connection and moving with bad connection. The model forecast excellent or good user experience in the first two scenarios and weak or bad user experience in the last scenario
