A comprehensive review of the enterprise systems research

Although the interest of the scholars on ES is recent, the number of publications is continuously growing since 2000. ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks: a literature review
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Also, this paper aims also at the professional ERP community involved in the process of ERP implementation by promoting a better understanding of ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks, its variety and history
An approach to control collaborative processes in PLM systems
Companies that collaborate within the product development processes need to
implement an effective management of their collaborative activities. Despite
the implementation of a PLM system, the collaborative activities are not
efficient as it might be expected. This paper presents an analysis of the
problems related to the collaborative work using a PLM system. From this
analysis, we propose an approach for improving collaborative processes within a
PLM system, based on monitoring indicators. This approach leads to identify and
therefore to mitigate the brakes of the collaborative work

In ES implementations, process modelling is a critical and often overlooked activity. This paper proposes a framework for process modelling of ES. The four steps method involves: Current Situation Analysis, Business Process Improvements and Requirements, Gap Analysis, and To-be process to develop. Outputs of the methodology are an interdependent set of organizational and system proposed changes, and feedback loops to the ES vendors and to the strategy of the firm. In-depth case studies and extensive literature review provides methodological support. Evaluation of strategic information systems planning (SISP) techniques: Driver perspective
Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) literature reviews with a focus on the global dimension are considered in this research. The paper counters the evaluation of SISP techniques through information system (IS) strategic drivers. These techniques can be vital contributors in the IS strategy (ISS) designing process. Therefore, categorisation of the techniques of ISS planning will be developed. Keeping in mind the global dimension, the planning team needs to identify how it can cluster an organization’s ISS drivers. This may be achieved by analysing the drivers that can have an effect on IS for the organization, which may support categorisation of drivers against techniques being classified to understand which are needed to fit specific drivers. The contribution of this research is the taxonomy of SISP techniques, with a case study for X international airlines. This classification can benefit evaluation of the ISS planning processes to support decision-makers through the planning process
Coordination approaches and systems - part I : a strategic perspective
This is the first part of a two-part paper presenting a fundamental review and summary of research of design coordination and cooperation technologies. The theme of this review is aimed at the research conducted within the decision management aspect of design coordination. The focus is therefore on the strategies involved in making decisions and how these strategies are used to satisfy design requirements. The paper reviews research within collaborative and coordinated design, project and workflow management, and, task and organization models. The research reviewed has attempted to identify fundamental coordination mechanisms from different domains, however it is concluded that domain independent mechanisms need to be augmented with domain specific mechanisms to facilitate coordination. Enterprise architecture for small and medium-sized enterprises
Enterprise architecture (EA) is used as a holistic approach to keep things aligned in a company. Some emphasize the use of EA to align IT with the business, others see it broader and use it to also keep the processes aligned with the strategy. Although a lot of research is being done on EA, still hardly anything is known about its use in the context of a small and medium sized enterprise (SME). Because of some specific characteristics of SMEs, it is interesting to look how EA can be applied in a SME. In this PhD, we present an approach for EA for SMEs, which combines four dimensions to get a holistic overview, while keeping things aligned. The approach is developed with special attention towards the characteristics of SMEs. Case studies are used to refine the metamodel and develop an adequate method, while tool support is being developed to enable the validation rounds
