    Democratic Replay: Enhancing TV Election Debates with Interactive Visualisations

    This paper presents an online platform for enhancing televised election debates with interactive visualisations. Election debates are one of the highlights of election campaigns worldwide. They are also often criticised as appearing scripted, rehearsed, detached from much of the electorate, and at times too complex. Democratic Replay enhances videos of election debates with a collection of interactive tools aimed at providing a replay experience centred around citizens' needs. We present the system requirements, design and implementation, and report on an evaluation based on the ITV Leaders' Debate from the 2015 UK General Election campaign

    Interactive Videos in IPTV using Hypervideo Links

    [EN] One of the main advantages of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is the capability of full duplex communication between the Television (TV) provider and the clients which permits the interactivity of both. From this interactivity, TV providers can obtain extra information from clients. Moreover, clients can even take profit from this type of communication that allows them surfing between videos. However, this feature cannot be used in Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). This paper shows the design and development of an interactive video for IPTV services that contains hypervideo links with additional information and content that is very useful for viewers. Furthermore, we detail the protocol used to maintain the service between the TV provider and the clients to maintain the service.     Four phases of video streaming: A case study of medical teaching

    This article examines video streaming in teaching situations with varying degrees of student activation ranging from lectures to team-based learning. The article is a case study of the implementation of video streaming at the Department of Medicine, Aarhus University. The aim of the article is to develop a model of video streaming in student-centered teaching. The research question is what characterizes the phases of video streaming in relation to student-centered teaching? The article develops a model with four phases of video streaming based on the case study and the literature on learning design. The article argues that both educators, e-moderators and students play a role in making video streaming a useful teaching technology. There are advantages to embedding the technology in a social educational context in relation to roles and phases of teaching. In collaboration with educators, instructional developers must learn to see the possibilities of video streaming from the perspective of the instructional process.Denne artikel undersøger videostreaming i forskellige undervisningssituationer med varierende grader af studenteraktivering lige fra forelæsninger til team-baseret læring. Artiklen er et casestudie om implementering af video-streaming på Medicin, Aarhus Universitet. Artiklens mål er at udvikle en model af videostreaming i studenter-centreret undervisning. Forskningsspørgsmålet er: Hvad kendetegner faser i video-streaming i forhold til studentercentreret undervisning? Artiklen udvikler en model med fire faser af videostreaming baseret på et empirisk casestudie og teori om læringsdesign. Artiklen argumenterer for at både undervisere, e-moderatorer og studerende spiller en rolle i forhold til at gøre video-streaming til en nyttig undervisningsteknologi. Selvom universitetsundervisere relativt nemt kan udvikle videoer med sin smartphone eller ved hjælp af et digitalt videokamera, er der fordele ved at indlejre teknologien i en social uddannelsessammenhæng i forhold til roller og faser i undervisningsforløb.     A quality assessment framework for knowledge management software

    CONTEXT: Knowledge is a strategic asset to any organisation due to its usefulness in supportinginnovation, performance improvement and competitive advantage. In order to gain the maximum benefit from knowledge, the effective management of various forms of knowledge is increasingly viewed as vital. A Knowledge Management System (KMS) is a class of Information System (IS) that manages organisational knowledge, and KMS software (KMSS) is a KMS component that can be used as a platform for managing various forms of knowledge. The evaluation of the effectiveness or quality of KMS software is challenging, and no systematic evidence exists on the quality evaluation of knowledge management software which considers the various aspects of Knowledge Management (KM) to ensure the effectiveness of a KMS.AIM: The overall aim is to formalise a quality assessment framework for knowledge management software (KMSS).METHOD: In order to achieve the aim, the research was planned and carried out in the stages identified in the software engineering research methods literature. The need for this research was identified through a mapping study of prior KMS research. The data collected through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and the evaluation of a KMSS prototype using a sample of 58 regular usersof knowledge management software were used as the main sources of data for the formalisation of the quality assessment framework. A test bed for empirical data collection was designed and implemented based on key principles of learning. A formalised quality assessment framework was applied to select knowledge management software and was evaluated for effectiveness. RESULTS: The final outcome of this research is a quality assessment framework consisting of 41 quality attributes categorised under content quality, platform quality and user satisfaction. A Quality Index was formulated by integrating these three categories of quality attributes to evaluate the quality of knowledge management software.CONCLUSION: This research generates novel contributions by presenting a framework for the quality assessment of knowledge management software, never previously available in the research. This framework is a valuable resource for any organisation or individual in selecting the most suitable knowledge management software by considering the quality attributes of the software
